Now Gerry's mates at the media are in disgrace, how must he be feeling? He certainly knew the dodgy ones to call, who gave him that insider information, I wonder? Mr Mitchell is certainly going to need all of his manipulative powers to get himself out of this one.

Gerry McCann

Mr McCann has assiduously nurtured contacts among national newspaper editors to counteract the stories emanating from Portugal. He is believed to have telephoned the News of the World's editor, Colin Myler, shortly before he was declared an arguido (suspect), to tell his side of the story, and it was a direct call by Mr McCann to Rebekah Wade last week that resulted in a Sun splash and inside headline: 'There's no proof.' By contrast, the day before the paper ran with the headline: 'Guilty or Innocent?'Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8388977942755921926.post-16712473982411636272011-07-27T16:29:48.994+01:002011-07-27T16:29:48.994+01:00Worth looking back, Gerry and his dream team back ...Worth looking back, Gerry and his dream team back in September 2007, amazing, some might say he could not have achieved all of this without getting into bed with the media, I think they would be right, it is the road to riches which can also pay for that all important self preservation. Was Angus McBride briefing against the dogs because they had found some evidence of Maddie being dead in there or to ramp the story up ? If you had killed your daughter in the apartment and the dogs proved that would you act as Gerry obviously did? Ah but they have nothing else and I did a good cleanup, perhaps.

The campaign's key figures

Gerry McCann

Mr McCann has assiduously nurtured contacts among national newspaper editors to counteract the stories emanating from Portugal. He is believed to have telephoned the News of the World's editor, Colin Myler, shortly before he was declared an arguido (suspect), to tell his side of the story, and it was a direct call by Mr McCann to Rebekah Wade last week that resulted in a Sun splash and inside headline: 'There's no proof.' By contrast, the day before the paper ran with the headline: 'Guilty or Innocent?'

Clarence Mitchell

The McCanns' communication operation was at its best when the former BBC News presenter was seconded for a month to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to replace the former Daily Mirror journalist and long-serving government spokeswoman Sheree Dodd in May. His decision to resign on Monday as head of the Government's media monitoring unit and return to the fray, replacing Justine McGuinness, has already helped the McCanns begin their fightback against innuendos in the Portuguese press. Calm and erudite, it was Mr Mitchell who briefed on Sunday that US case law might help shoot down 'evidence' that sniffer dogs had 'smelled death' in the McCanns' apartment.

John McCann

Gerry McCann's brother, a pharmaceutical sales rep, is a director and trustee of the Find Madeleine Appeal Fund, but has also been the family's calm, public face, who toured television studios on Saturday to reassert his brother and sister-in-law's innocence. His sister, Philomena, has had a higher profile, visiting the Scottish Parliament to discuss the case and speaking live to rolling news channels, but the family values John McCann's less emotional output.

Angus McBride

He, rather than his colleague Michael Caplan QC, seems to be taking a leading role in the case at Kingsley Napley, the London law firm recently appointed by the McCanns. Mr McBride toured many national newspaper offices with Justine McGuinness last week and, though he has not made any public statements, he is believed to have been behind the challenge to the sniffer dog 'evidence'. He defended the actor Chris Langham, who was recently sentenced for child pornography offences.

Carlos Pinto de Abreu

The McCanns' Portuguese lawyer is based in London and, after a brilliant academic career, is one of Portugal's most celebrated legal men, with a direct line to the country's Attorney General by virtue of their work together on human rights issues. Mr De Abreu's services have been put at £200 an hour but he is a vital source of clarity, explaining publicly last week that the McCanns' initial belief that they were offered a plea bargain was flawed.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8388977942755921926.post-27627701249612603322011-07-27T16:18:15.770+01:002011-07-27T16:18:15.770+01:00It is strange that the newspaper that Clarence Mit...It is strange that the newspaper that Clarence Mitchell publically let slip he really cannot stand, Daily Express & Co are the same ones the McCanns decided to really extract the cash from.

I am sure the newspaper business is a really cut throat world with scores to settle. I also have a vague recollection of a Daily Express reporter stating in a radio interview he knew the McCanns were involved in the disappearance of Madeleine. How dare he!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8388977942755921926.post-6964941456314238222011-07-27T16:15:22.655+01:002011-07-27T16:15:22.655+01:00But he probably hacked them as well. We know the McCanns were also using pay as you go mobiles(and their friends, weird behaviour in itself) but that does not seem to have stopped the Portuguese and British Police tracking/pinging them, so, presumably, they also used their regular mobiles??

Why were the McCanns employing a very expensive firm, Control Risks Group within just a few weeks? They are not private investigators and they are normally employed by large corporations and governments to assist in the management of major incidents/ risk to reputation etc. Who, in the corporate world was advising them to use this firm and funding it?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8388977942755921926.post-56905306525882162882011-07-27T16:07:59.053+01:002011-07-27T16:07:59.053+01:00Freudian slip, backed them, not hacked them, lol!Freudian slip, backed them, not hacked them, lol!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8388977942755921926.post-27368033519134586932011-07-27T16:06:55.578+01:002011-07-27T16:06:55.578+01:00Mr Mitchell was initially seconded from the Cabine...Mr Mitchell was initially seconded from the Cabinet Office to assist the McCanns, but he said his re-employment, after an approach supported by the couple's legal team and financial backers, meant that continuing to work for the Civil Service was "untenable" and so he had resigned

(The Independent, Sept 07)

Why would a couple accused of murdering their child have "financial backers"? And why would Kate and Gerry need their "support" in any moves they decide to make?

We already know that Brian Kennedy was behind the scenes choosing and paying private investigators. I think Ruper Murdoch was another major financial backer and the only reason he hacked them was because his newspapers had been losing millions, causing him to consider charging for viewings - The Times. This man can smell a couple from a million miles away who can make his an awful lot of money. I think that when he saw the slick performances of the McCanns in PDL he thought, hello, I like these two. They may well be involved in the disappearance of their daughter but they obviously like money and I can buy them and get all the scoops for an ever lasting replacement for Princess Di and all the money I made out of her, including long after she was dead.

What normal person would agree to the serialisation of sex in The Sun as Kate McCann did and why would they do that? Because Murdoch owns them? I think he does, but Murdoch is falling and so are the McCanns. London Met have no less than three ongoing investigations bringing this all tumbling down, and they will!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507323081802465917noreply@blogger.com
