THE parents of Madeleine McCann are ready to sue Portuguese police for £1million for failing to find their daughter, it was claimed last night.
Kate and Gerry McCann, who remain official suspects in the case, are considering legal action over a string of blunders which they claim hampered the search for Madeleine.Portuguese lawyers representing the couple confirmed that they may launch legal action if the authorities decide to shelve the investigation. Senior detectives recently admitted that the case could be placed on file as early as Christmas unless there is a significant breakthrough.The McCanns and the only other official suspect, Robert Murat, could then have their arguido status removed and the case would be effectively archived. At that stage the McCanns could bring a civil case against the Policia Judiciaria for damaging their reputations and failing to find their daughter.

Portuguese police failed to follow up on Maddie sightings

One of the McCanns’ Portu­guese lawyers, Rogerio Alves, said the couple were focused on the hunt for four-year-old Madeleine at this stage but may consider legal action when the time was right.“Because we don’t even yet know what this case’s development will be, never mind making predictions for the future, nothing has been arranged in that sense. But what has to be done will be done in due time.”Another member of their legal team, Carlos Pinto Abreu, said suing the police would be difficult but not impossible.“You would have to prove that it was intentional – only if you had information that someone had said they knew where the child was and the police had taken no action. It would not be easy but it would be possible.”

The McCanns are convinced Madeleine was abducted from their holiday apartment at the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz by an intruder at around 9.15pm on May 3.But they believe police errors in the initial hours after their daughter’s disappearance res­ulted in vital lost opportunities.The apartment was not sealed off as a crime scene, meaning crucial forensic evidence was lost.When detectives did examine the room, much of the evidence had been contaminated by police officers who were even smoking and dropping ash on the floor.The Policia Judiciaria also failed to alert officers on the border with Spain, allowing any possible abductor time to flee Portugal and even reach north Africa.Earlier this week, two military police officers, who were among the first on the scene on May 3, attacked the chaotic approach of the operation.One of the GNR officers, who requested anonymity in order to avoid disciplinary action, said: “When we arrived it was chaos. The whole world and his dog had walked through that place.“I lifted my arms up, rolled my eyes, put my head down and just got on with it. There was nothing we could do. The damage had already been done. It’s so frustrating. We can’t tell our superiors what to do.”He added: “It was like the police weren’t even there.“Civilians – family, friends, neighbours, staff, people off the street – everyone was in and out of that place.”Kate and Gerry, both doctors, are furious that the police have spent so much time building a case against them rather than trying to look for their missing daughter. If the case is never solved they fear the cloud of suspicion will always hang over them and they will find it difficult to rebuild their lives. The investigation has been beset by difficulties. Last month the Policia Judiciaria came in for criticism after it emerged that they had failed to follow up a number of reported sightings across Europe and in nearby Morocco.The authorities were also forced to sack the former head of the inquiry, Goncalo Amaral, after he repeatedly breached the country’s strict secrecy laws by leaking information about the case to the local media.Last night the McCanns’ official spokesman Clarence Mitchell admitted that legal action against the Portuguese authorities was something the couple were considering.He said: “It is something for their lawyers to consider further on down the line. The only way this case will close for Kate and Gerry is when Madeleine is found safe and well.”Any decision to lift the McCanns’ arguido status could signal a flurry of legal actions by the couple, who have been disgusted with some of the hurtful media coverage coming out of Portugal.They recently threatened to sue a number of publications that claimed they had sedated their children in order to go out to enjoy dinner.They have always vehemently denied giving their children anything stronger than Calpol.Last month they also threatened action against the newspaper 24 Hours which ran a front-page story claiming that Gerry was not Madeleine’s natural father.

A poster name Reina made some posts over the last couple of days and because she is unlike most posters on here and because she disagrees with the anti McCann's the level of insults were absolutely despicable.Perhaps Ironside should read a few of those before making snap judgements. These insults were alluding to her mental health in a most unpleasant way and I was absolutely disgusted that the DE left them up, there was absolutely no reason for them to have done this.I tell you her views may have been different and they may have no basis, but they are her views and our views both the antis and the so called pros are no more reliable than hers. I am sick and tired of seeing people on here bullied and intimidate and deeply insulted just because they do not conform to the anti's viewpoint.What do you think of this *alleged* changing of the story? Don't you think that if this was really going to happen it would have by now?Also something I find odd is that Robert Murat was the interpreter when the friends gave their first statements and as he was later made an arguido, I think those statements should be voided and taken again with an official interpreter, after all he could have told the PJ anything? Not saying he did, but the man has been made a suspect in this case and this needs careful consideration.

Before making judgements like that try reading back to see why people reacted the way they did. I would not have even been on these boards last night if I had not discovered deeply offensive remarks made towards others and myself while we were not even logged on.Then if this wasn't bad enough one poster insulted Christabel because Christabel had said she was helping make costumes for a children's home for their Christmas play.This was after watching several posters insulting Mark all evening, where I wanted to intervene but stayed out of it, so as not to cause further problemsUsually I hold back on remarks but yesterday I had enough of the insults.Just be fair.

1) The people who are constantly called pro-McCanns have said hundreds of times they are not pro, but they don't like the witch-hunt that is being carried out when there is absolutely no hard evidence about what happened to Madeleine. It has been pointed that the papers are writing anything just to sell papers. I would say that is a lot more open-minded than saying someone is guilty because it said so in the paper.2) As far as the people who are not anti-McCann are concerned, have you actually read the attacks that are carried out on them, because they refuse to be drawn into some group hysteria? Try reading the posts written by Viv, Zodiac and Bianca for starters. Incredibly aggressive and belittling. Naturally when someone agrees with them they are so sweet and call them super-intelligent - you would need fillings in your teeth just reading those comments.I think it says it all when someone who is not anti-McCann writes that she dreads seeing her name at the head of a post, because of what may be written underneath, or someone not anti-McCann feels "brave enough" today to write something. Is it any wonder in that case that the non-antis are in the minority here. I haven't heard comments like that from the antis.To call Rosipops a ringleader is absolutely ridiculous. She has kept her cool far longer than most, but gets attacked in the lowest way on a daily basis. Also to say that noone has a mind of their own in the non-anti camp is just as ridiculous. In the anti-camp everyone just agrees with Viv because then she'll be nice to them. Can I remind you that it's Viv that has been threatened with being blocked - one of the good ol' pleasant antis!!!

I was on Guardia last night...Had the opportunity of reading through the night posts...what an awful group of unpleasant people they are...the ones that call themselves pro mccanns...I believe they invented this title..as I believe the people who wish for justice and honesty in this terrible tragedy are more open minded and see life the way it is....Gerry read a report when in the states 97% of children are harmed by their own parents ..that leaves the abduction theory at 3%...I wonder did he realise what he was saying....?The ring leader appears to be rosiepops and her fledglings with no mind of their own all chirp in agreement ,..what a very sad few they are ..It seems they are in denial that they are the minority......

I actually think they are all pretty stupid, with the threats of sueing the Portugese Police for not finding their daughter, when it was down to them she disappeared , due to their neglect. They are very lucky they have not been prosecuted for the neglect of their three children.Clearly they have no regard for decency and have revealed by this threat to sue the Police for a million pounds that their only motivation is to make money out of their daughter which I find sickening.

Have a look at Rosie. Mandz Christobel Tinkerbelle etc and you will see what I mean. But the gorgeous Clooney is still around (smiles..).Although I have always tried to remain as some say "on the fence", I have been surprised and shocked by the type of speech/communication in the posters you mentioned. I have been asking myself how I would react if I had been a friend of the family. If I had been 1000% sure of their innocence I would have been totally devastated and would have fired "ludicrous" on the second day!! Well, I guess I would never had accepted to have "ludicrous" around me unless I would be wanting the whole world to see my friends as suspicious.But I cannot imagine being in a forum spitting venom and insulting other people's intelligence, being xenophobic and shooting insults at anyone who would not share my (blind) point of view.I find it all very strange.
