Maddie case: In their first interview since they quit being suspects in the disappearance of their daughter, Kate and Gerry McCann spoke about the re-launch of the investigation, the fear that they felt in Portugal and the unshakable certainty that Madeleine was abducted"Nothing in the process says that Madeleine has died"Q – What are you presently doing to find Madeleine?

Gerry – We have had private investigators working with us for several months. Now that the case has been archived, it's easier because we accessed the process. We carried out new interviews with those that had already testified. And we interviewed others who approached us and had never spoken before.

Kate – As we didn't know what the PJ had done, we repeated everything that seemed important to us.Q – Do the new witnesses offer clues about the disappearance?

Gerry – Some report sightings, but it's not likely that they lead to our daughter. We are more interested in people that offer credible information that can be verified through photographs or in another form; people who know who may be involved.Q – What impression did you get from the process? Were you shocked over its contents?

Gerry – We were investigated into the smallest detail. There are entire volumes about us. We can jump those. It must be disquieting information that will not help us to find Madeleine.

Q – Don't you think that everything that was possible to do, was done? The investigation reached Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Morocco…

Gerry – Morocco is a good example of what went wrong. A sighting was reported and it was said that there were cameras at the petrol station. When the inspectors went there, they concluded that there were none. The truth is that there were none in the pump area, but in the shop. And when the PJ returned, the tape had been recorded over.

Kate – It's difficult to describe how it feels to have our daughter taken away… We want to see action everywhere. We wanted spotlights, we wanted helicopters, we wanted everyone on the street, searching.
Q – If Madeleine had disappeared in England, would things have been different?

Gerry – If it had happened in a British city, I have no doubts. But I don't know if it would have been different if we had been in a small village in Scotland. Clearly, the English police are more experienced in abductions, they are more alert.

Q – If you have an important clue concerning Madeleine's whereabouts, will you transmit it to the Portuguese police?

Gerry – If something needs to be done in Portugal, we'll have to. We cannot go around breaking doors down or arresting people. But only when we feel that we cannot advance any further on our own.
Q – Do you trust the Portuguese authorities, after having been considered suspects?

Gerry – We wouldn't mind if we had been investigated at the beginning, if they thought that could help. But months later, when the evidence had been lost? It's that once the suspicion is installed, we can never prove our innocence again.

Q – Didn't you find it strange that the dogs found traces of blood in your room and in your rental car…

Gerry – There was no blood found! The indicia are worthless if they are not corroborated by forensic information. And they were not.

Q – 40 apartments were investigated and the dogs only marked yours. Ten cars and they only reacted to yours.

Gerry – These dogs' frailty was proved by a study that was carried out in the USA, in the case of a man that had been accused of murder. They had ten rooms, and in each room four boxes were placed, containing vegetables, bones, trash. Some contained human remains. They stayed there for ten hours. Eight hours after the boxes were removed, the dogs came in. And the dogs failed two thirds of the attempts. Imagine the reliability when these dogs test an apartment three months after the disappearance of a child.

Q – Were you surprised when you were made arguidos?

Kate – It was not surprising after weeks with the media saying that we were suspects. And there we have to ask why the information that reached the media was disfigured. Why do the newspapers say that blood was found in the apartment when the police report does not confirm it? Why was it said that the DNA that was found in the car was a 100% match with Madeleine's?

Gerry – In a way, we would like to have been accused so we could defend ourselves openly. Now, reading the process, there is no evidence that justifies the suspicion, apart from the dogs' action. There was never a sustained explanation. And the questioning: 'What happened to Madeleine? How did you get rid of her? Who helped you? Where did you put her?' All fantasy! If they had found DNA – so what? And if Madeleine had hurt herself inside the apartment – why would that be our fault?

Q – Do you investigate information that point towards Madeleine's death?

Kate – We want to find her alive, but if she is dead we want to know.
Q – Do you still believe that she's alive?

Kate – There are great possibilities that she is alive, aren't there? There is nothing in the process to indicate that something bad has happened to her…

Q – But there are no indicia that she has been abducted, either.

Gerry – We firmly believe that she was abducted by a man, minutes after I went to see her in the bedroom. There are two independent witnesses that saw a child of around four years of age being carried that evening. Our friend Jane Tanner and also the Smith family.

Q – The PJ discredits Jane Tanner's testimony. They say that when she saw said man with the child, you [Gerry] were chatting nearby and it was impossible that you hadn’t seen him as well…
Gerry – I didn't see her because my back was turned to the location where she passed. I was talking to a friend. And there is also the couple with children that saw a man carrying a child with pyjamas that were similar to Madeleine's, blond hair, the same age.

Q – Later on, that family stated that the man they saw was Gerry…

Gerry – At that time I was at the restaurant. The fact that we became suspects has probably influenced the Smiths' testimony.
Q – Was it a coincidence that you were made arguidos on one day and returned home the next day?

Gerry – They questioned us on that day because the PJ knew about our return.

Q – Were you afraid of being arrested?

Kate – Obviously. At a certain point we didn't know very well what could happen.

Gerry – From the information in the newspapers, of course we were afraid. It was scary.

Q – Being in England, you would not be extradited anymore.

Gerry – We asked the inspector that was in charge of the case if he had any objection: the answer was no. It's obvious that we were afraid that people might think we were escaping, but it was better not to be in Portugal at that point in time.

Q – Why?

Kate – Because of the hostile environment. We couldn't even leave the house.

Q – Why did Kate refuse to answer questions during your interrogation, that Gerry accepted to clarify the next day?

Kate – I was advised by my Portuguese lawyer not to reply.

Gerry – I received the same advice but decided to disobey. My plan was to remain silent, but the first question was: 'Are you involved in your daughter's disappearance?' It was nonsense and I decided to answer. From there onwards, I replied to all of them.Q – Why didn't you authorise the police to see the messages that you sent and received on your mobile phone on the eve of Maddie’s disappearance.

Gerry – Nobody asked to see my messages. On the day before and on the day of the disappearance I did not receive or send 16 messages. I could hardly write a text message. I received three or four phone calls and two were from work. After the disappearance I received hundreds. And when the police asked me for the registry, I told them to ask the service provider. My phone only registers the last ten.

Q – The chief inspector in the case, Tavares de Almeida, writes a report where he says that your friends lied to save you, that Maddie died in the living room, and that you hid the body.

Gerry – What can we say? You will have to ask the police chiefs why they wrote that, why they saw us as suspects.Q – The majority of crimes where the victims are children are committed by the parents.

Gerry – Not in the case of abducted children. And this is a case of an abducted child. It's an exceptional case.

Q – When he archived the case, the prosecutor said that the investigation can be reopened if a new clue appears. Do you think that is possible?

Kate – Of course! It could happen at any moment. All that it takes is for one person to make the phone call that we wait for so much. We know that she was abducted in Portugal and we vehemently believe that someone knows or suspects something.

"Mr Amaral's behaviour is a disgrace"They have not read the book that is a best-seller in Portugal. And they don't spare the author and former PJ inspectorQ – Former inspector Gonçalo Amaral remains convinced of your involvement in Madeleine's disappearance. Did you read 'The Truth of the Lie', the book that he wrote?

Kate and Gerry – No.

Kate – Why would I?

Gerry – I won't learn anything from reading it.

Q – It was a success in Portugal.

Gerry – Was it? How many copies did it sell?Q – Approximately 200 thousand. Next week, it is released in Spain.

Gerry – That is what can be called illicit enrichment.

Q – Your English lawyers already have a translated copy and they are analysing it. Do you intend to sue Gonçalo Amaral?

Gerry – At this moment we are focused on what we can do to find Madeleine and not in suing anyone.

Kate – All that I am going to say about this – because I'm not going to waste any time on Mr Amaral – is that as a professional and as a person his behaviour has been a disgrace.

Q – Aren't you curious to know what the book says?

Kate – What for? It must be nothing but a load of rubbish. It is so secondary… It certainly won't help to find our daughter. My consolation is that on the cover he calls her Maddie, the name that the media have invented. We never called her anything like that.

Q – But you do know the theory that Gonçalo Amaral defends: Madeleine accidentally died in the Ocean Club apartment and you concealed the body.

Gerry – It really is a waste of time. And we need all the time that we can get to analyse the investigation's documents, which contain a lot of information that we didn't know about.

Kate – You just have to cross, loosely, his theory with the process in order to understand that the facts that he reports are not correct.
Q – There is a theory that defends that the coordinator was removed from the investigation due to British political pressure.
Gerry – Who dismissed him?Q – The PJ's national director.

Gerry – Then you have to ask him if he was pressured. Or if Gordon Brown discussed the case with him. He surely didn't.

Q – He also resigned. And largely due to this process.

Gerry – That was not what I was told. Apparently he had a vision of the police itself that was different from the one held by the Justice Minister.

Q – In a final analysis, they both left the PJ because the investigation failed.

Gerry – That's not our fault. I do not criticize the authorities over not trying to find Madeleine. It doesn't matter anymore. Now all that matters is that we do everything to try to find her, through our own methods.

Q – Did you ever get to know Gonçalo Amaral?

Kate – The question is the other way around: did he get to know us?

*
There are photographs of her all over the houseGerry has returned to his work as a cardiologist. Kate did not exercise medicine again. Twins Sean and Amelie fill up her days as a mother.Q – How has your life changed with the disappearance of Madeleine?

Gerry – Independently of what happens, it will never be the same again. If you talk to the parents of other abducted children, they also mention this parallel life which we entered. Sean and Amelie, being so young, force us to introduce a certain normality in our lives, to make it normal for them. And it's them who, for moments, make it normal for us. But it will never be normal for us. They are aged three and a half, and they are very, very happy.Q – Did you explain to the twins what happened to their sister?

Kate – They perceive Madeleine's absence perfectly. I have no doubt whatsoever. But they don't know the details. They know that she disappeared and that we're looking for her.

Gerry – We were advised concerning what we should tell them, how and when. Larger explanations are kept for later. We realise that they miss their older sister. They know that her not being with us is not a good thing, and they hope that she returns.

Q – How do you keep Madeleine present in your lives?

Kate – There are photographs of her all over the house. And we speak about her with the twins every day – it's an important part of their lives. Sean and Amelie talk about her and still include her in their playing… If they receive sweets, they say "Let's keep one for Madeleine". Or "When she comes home I'll give her this or that". It's endearing and it makes our days less difficult.

Q – Did you fear that you might lose custody over Sean and Amelie because your behaviour was considered to be negligent?

Gerry – We were not negligent, we did what any reasonable parent would do. But we deeply regret what happened, because in our action, someone saw an opportunity to take Madeleine. I'm an optimistic person. I never thought that something like this could happen.Q – Did you change the manner in which you deal with Sean and Amelie?

Gerry – We are more protective and less trusting. We never left our children alone again and many families will never do so again because of us.

Kate – Now we think about everything that can happen, about predators, abductors. We don't even let go of them in the shopping centre.

*€1.200.000The McCanns say that the fund has spent €1.2 million with the private investigation. But the reward of €3 million still standsQ – How much have you spent on the private investigation so far?

Gerry – Approximately one million pounds, over the past ten months, paid with money from the Find Madeleine fund. A substantial sum was also spent on our defence, but two benefactors have covered that expense, which means that the fund was solely used in the search for our daughter.Q – Do you maintain the offer of 2.5 million ponds to whoever finds Madeleine?

Gerry – We do not control that reward, but everything leads me to believe that it still stands. And that there will also be money available for whoever supplies credible information.

Kate – It's a lot of money, but we cannot set limits, a child is priceless. We'll pay whatever is necessary.

Q – Is there still money left in the fund?

Gerry – There is still some money left. Recently, British newspapers ('Express newspapers') paid us compensation of 550 thousand pounds, which fed the fund. That had an important impact. And there are still donations, people who send money directly.Q – But less than in the beginning, before you were made arguidos.

Gerry – Of course! Those who were in doubt stopped contributing. Many write to us asking for forgiveness because they believed in our guilt. We know that we have to make an effort for people to know that there is no evidence that Madeleine is dead and that we were not involved in the disappearance.

*Other issuesDogs – "We read everything that we found about these dogs that detect cadavers. It was due to them that we became suspects"Clues – "The sightings continue. Since May we received one thousand phone calls and an equal number of emails, some containing relevant data"Media exposure – "Appearing in the media was never good. We did it to publicise Madeleine's face and to find her. We failed"Background

Details of two hours of conversationKate and Gerry are different. More relaxed, or conformed. It is difficult to tell. "The twins force us to a certain normality", the mother explains. It's been 16 months and the mystery of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains unsolved.

The parents have already been victims of a tragedy and suspects of a terrible crime. The process was archived, but they are judged every day. Gerry agrees: "From the moment when the suspicion is installed, we can never prove our innocence".

This is the first interview since the process was archived, on the 21st of July. It is scheduled in Rothley, a small village in the British Midlands where nobody suspects the McCanns' guilt. Even less the owner of the Court House Hotel, which is installed in a medieval building and where the interview is held, in the late afternoon last Monday. There is tea with milk and biscuits. There is no guide and there are no forbidden questions.

In almost two hours of interview, Kate and Gerry, both 40, clearly state the intention that supports their availability for the conversation. "We believe that in Portugal someone knows about Madeleine, that it is where the solution for our daughter's disappearance lies". And they want that person, whether singular or collective, to know that they search for him, that they ensure his anonymity and that they will even give him 2.5 million pounds if he tells them where Madeleine is.

Every day, in their very British house of little bricks, they study a little more of the process of the Polícia Judiciária's investigation, which they personally consult as it is being translated. They understand "nothing" of Portuguese. From a first reading they reinforced their hope of finding Maddie alive. Nothing tells them that she is dead. The volumes about themselves, from the time when they were made arguidos, have been put aside. "We do not intend to read them".

They remind them of the days when they were afraid of being arrested in Portugal, accused of Madeleine's death.

Gerry McCann buried Madeleine's body on the beach, Portuguese detective says Telegraph

The Portuguese detective who was sacked as head of the team investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has accused her father of burying her body on the beach near their holiday apartment the same night that she was reported missing.

By David Harrison
Last Updated: 5:56PM BST 06 Sep 2008

In the latest of a series of extraordinary claims about the case, Goncalo Amaral, says he believes that Maddy died accidently in the McCann's rented flat as the result of a fall and that her father disposed of the body.

The disgraced detective - who has sold 120,000 copies of a book he has just published a book about the case - says an Irishman had claimed that he had seen Mr McCann with a child in his arms walking towards the beach on the night that Maddy reportedly disappeared.

The McCanns dismissed the claims, made in an interview with a Spanish newspaper, as "ridiculous".

Clarence Mitchell, the family's spokesman, said: "As Kate has said today Mr Amaral is a complete disgrace.

"His comments are grossly defamatory and utterly without foundation."

Mr Amaral, who has now retired from Portugal's Judicial Police investigation force, says in the El Mundo newspaper: "The Portuguese police, like the British [police], and also the prosecutor, who has now changed his opinion, thought the same. We are talking of a death involving third parties, not of homicide.

"In the bedroom blood and the smell of a body were found just below a window where there was a sofa. The father was there for a short time just outside this window having a conversation with a friend.

"The parents said the girl did not have a bad dream. Maybe the girl heard the father and climbed onto the sofa under the window. But the parents had pulled it away from the wall. so that the girl would not get out, and Madeleine could have fallen."

The former policeman talks about the Irish witness seeing Mr McCann carrying a child towards the beach and about sniffer dogs finding traces of blood and the scent of a body on the wall of the apartment and in the boot of a car the couple hired 23 days after Maddy disappeared.

This prompts the interviewer to ask: "Gerry McCann buried his daughter on the beach and then disinterred her and put her in the boot 23 days later?"

Amaral replies: "We don't know. The Irish witness I have spoken about saw on television Gerry with a child in his arms arriving in the United Kingdom and declared it was the same image that he had seen in May in Portugal. This man went two days without sleeping when he realised what he had discovered."

The interviewer says that Amaral's claim implies that the Tapas Nine - the McCanns and their friends who dined together on the night of Maddy's disappearance - had all ageed to lie.

Amaral says: "All of them. Because, in case you don't know, British legislation covering negligence in caring for children is very hard...In the United Kingdom, if you leave a child alone for half an hour you will lose custody. After the death of Madeleine, if it had been made public that it was an accident, all of them would have lost custody [of their children]."

The former detective describes how on one occasion during a meeting Kate McCann had lowered her head and seemed to be totally distracted for several seconds before coming back to being her usual self. "It appeared that she had escaped from the role that she was interpreting," he says.

Asked how she reacted when she was asked if Maddy had been killed by falling from the sofa he replies: "She didn't say anything, she just lowered her head for a moment as if she was on the point of fainting. She had an emotional crack that lasted for just a moment."

Amaral adds: "For me, Gerry hid the body of Madeleine on the beach. And after some days he transfered it to his car. We were working in this direction.

"We lacked establishing the date, some details, but we were on the way. The Irishman was on the point of coming to Portugal, but it took too long, and there were external pressures. In the end he didn't make a statement to the [Judicial] Police."

A friends of the McCanns dismissed Amaral's claims as "nonsense and legally extremely dangerous", and said that Kate and Gerry would sue Amaral if he published his book in the UK.

Mr Mitchell said: "Mr Amaral needs to be very careful in repeating those allegations. Kate and Gerry's lawyers are watching his words very carefully.

"He is also completely at odds with with his own Attorney-General who, in lifting Kate and Gerry's "arguido" - official suspect - status, made it clear that there is no evidence to suggest they are guilty of any crime whatsoever."

I dont think ST is GM she is far too inteligent and has a sense of humour....

I dont understand what she is trying to achieve (apart from make old woman speak with a mouth like a sewer)but she is trying to achive something and it is not about shutting us or the 3As down as another blog wont do that..

She says she is female but I guess we can be anything we want to be on a blog (I am me would have chosen a far more exciting life if I wanted to fib) LOL x

One of the things that has puzzled me is, why did Kate have a bible on holiday with her. Remember her mother stated live on tv that she was never religeous before. So I am assuming she obtained the bible after the event.

The other thing I would love to remember but cannot. Gerry supposedly had his wallet stolen when back in the UK, and I am sure somewhere it was listed what was in it, but I cannot remember. I know he had his wallet returned. My question is were there any credit cards in it??

Cláudia said...

Di, I don't know if there were any credit cards in it or not. But apparently the PJ has been able to establish that they do have credit cards, because the hire car was paid with one and the form showed its number. It seems UK authorities told the PJ they had none.

ICantThinkOfAName said...

I am pretty sure that his wallet was stolen when he was drawing money from a "hole in the wall".

I wish I knew how to get money out of one without using a card.

I just wanted to say the story you posted at 13.30pm

Was truly shocking!!

These people can never be rehabilitated into society.

The following also alarmed me!!

We have had a report on Jeremy Vine today. That states any man seen in a park on his own, without a child, can be approached by a park warden and asked his intentions because he could be a peadophile!!

I find this quite alarming. I know many men who walk their dogs in the park but don't have children with them. So are all these people going to be questioned? Because if they are that includes my husband.

I really do believe the press have blown everything out of all proportion, they would have us all believe every neighbour is a peadophile. Yes, we all know they are out there but let's put it into perspective!!

dylan said...

Di,

I think the bible was given to her by a member of the congregation of PdL church.

The PJ wanted to know why the page [with the passage about the child that was to die] was dog-eared and Kate said that it had been given to her like that.

Hope I remembered that right!

Sorry Paedophile. Oh well the other side can have a laugh it seems they have little else to do!!

Are you both ok??? xxx

Di,

I agree with you wrt the park policy although I did see a man sort of "lurking" I would say, at a park where I was playing with my two youngest. I found him a bit odd (god! I sound like Granny Cooper now!) because he was just standing there, sans dog, and watching. I left as I felt uncomfortable and he then walked away. Probably just paranoia but If a man is behaving in a suspicious way like that, I think it is a good idea that they should be approached by a park warden. However, as you say, these things get blown out of proportion and it's entirely forseable that some power-crazy wardens could end up questioning everyone and throwing all lone males out of the park!

Hello Hope!

I'm good, thanks. Just sick and tired of ST's lot! How are you?
I got all of my farden done the week before last, painted the walls and decking and have some lights to put up. I was really looking forward to sitting in it but alas, the weather has put a stop to that! Still, I should count my chickens that we are not in a flood zone.

Wizard this input you did shows just how far the British police must have been trying to block this process from following its natural path.

I’m still picking over the El Mundo interview.

Amaral was asked. “When you raised the hypothesis that Madeleine might have died after falling off the sofa, did Kate McCann answer.”

Amaral tells us that “She did not answer, she just dropped her head for a moment, as if she was about to faint. She had an emotional collapse…”

AND YET SHE WALKS OUT OF THE COUNTRY.

Dylan I have no idea what threats you have had but if you have had them then speak to a police friend or a friend of a friend. If none go and report what has happened and get it logged. Then get something that would hurt and keep it by your bed. I am fortunate in this area as I have always known dodgy people and my father was in the special forces so I have always thought if someone ever got me then no worries he will track them down and suitably shaft them. The good news is that most bullies just use words don't they.

Hello Hope.

I am fine thanks, I hope you are well too.

There is so much to take in at the moment regarding this case. Twists and turns? It is like a grand prix. Where will it end and who will be standing on the podium??

Off to catch up with some TV.

Will try and look back in.

If not, enjoy your evening and see you all tomorrow.

For those who were unable to take the test yesterday.

1) You are on holiday do you...

a) Keep a careful eye on your children and involve them in what you do.

b) Chuck them in a creche all day and ignore them in the evening.

2) You are in a new job selling double glazing. The company encourages you to sell the product at hugely inflated prices. Do you...

a)Decide you don't want to make money by ripping other people off and go look for a new job.

b)Get very excited that you may make money this way and you may even be able to climb up the social ladder if you make enough.

If you answered mostly a) then you are welcome on this blog and you are welcome to join the club of people who have empathy in their soul.

If you have answered mostly b) you have no soul, no integrity and you are welcome to make huge amounts of money or climb social ladders for it will mean nothing when a few moments before you die you see your own reflection in front of you.

Hi Dyl

Shame about sitting in your farden but it will still look nice through the window...

Dont let them get to you that is what they want. Maybe warn your children again that there are some very sick people about and not to go with anyone who say's you have sent them to pick them up (or get close for a chat)...

I have warned my two (then I remind them every so often that it is better to be embaressed about being rude to someone by ignoring them than it is to end up in some sick sod's boot) then they give me the look they can both throw me and their Dad although they are tiny. Put it this way if someone tried to grab either of them you would be able to pick them out from their broken nose and funny walk...

But if you are really worried or you think anything odd is happening then go to the police and something heavy next to the bed is a good idea (you could bore them to death reading war and peace LOL)....

Have you ever done any self defence??? I would recomend kick boxing it is a good stress reliver makes you very fit and give you real confidence...

The parents behaviour confirms they have something to hide...

Of course we have to make sure our children are protected, but to stop a lone male walking in the park because he may be a paedophile is ridiculous! What happened to theWha good old park keeper there used to be years ago who always kept a look out for wierdos and protected the children.

In my opinion, ALL paedophiles who are convicted of a crime against a child should be locked up with no release at all. That might be a deterrent to some of them to keep their filthy perverted ways to themself too, or to have treatment.

Evening all

Lots of shocking moments in those new videos today. The worst may be that it seems the 'last picture' of Maddie was mounted in a black frame adorned by a large cross and placed within the bedside 'shrine' in the villa.

Many posters commented that pictures are most often mounted in this way when a person has died and are often used to adorn graves. Is this right? I have little knowledge of either Catholic or pseudo-Catholic traditions and rituals.

General consensus was also that the picture was digitally altered to exclude any sign of Gerry or Amelie. One or two attempted to opine that it was a simple 'crop', but that does not appear to be the case. If true, why would they do this?

Off to catch up on some news.

Hi Doc!

Don't know about the catholic church, but the orthodox is using a lot of pictures and ikons. Almost every grave has pictures of the buried ones. Every house where a young soul has "left" will have a shrine. Where-ever there has been a death-accident on the road you will find shrines, that looks like small churches with pictures of the dead, holy ikons and oil-lamps. The shelf (shown in the X-mas appeal?), with pictures of Madeleine in the McCanns house in England reminded me of exactly the same...

Good night

Thank you for the video-links by the way:))

Good morning all,

Docmac - nicely put. Such a sad day.
I watched a programme last night about the Marriot Hotel which sat directly beneath the Twin Towers. An Irish architect who lived in the States, was in the foyer of the hotel that morning when he brought in a lady who had suffered burns from the attack. He put a blanket around her, comforted her and said some prayers with her, then found an ambulance as she was in a bad way.

Later in the day, he discovered that his sister and 4 yr old niece were in one the planes that struck the towers and 40 days later, he heard on the radio that the woman he had rescued had died in hospital. He'd been to see her and sit at her bedside.

After all he had lost and been through, he still found strength in his Catholic faith and the will to be strong and carry on with life. The poor, poor man. Very upsetting.

BT, hi! I haven't had any threats, as such, they just keep on and on posting that my kids are in danger because I gave their Christian names out on this blog. I only know this from Doc's posts here as I don't go there anymore, so there could have much more than that said! It's just beginning to feel very intimidating now, that's all.

xx

Docmac -

I echo your thoughtful words in remembrance of all those who died in that tragic terrorist attack, not only the twin towers but also the plane crash. An elderly aunt of mine who lived near where the plane came down suffered a heart attack and died from shock shortly afterwards.

May all the victims of those attacks both, directly and indirectly, rest in peace.

nancy said...

Hi Dylan -

I sympathise with you and it must feel intimidating, but to suggest that your children are in danger because you put their names on one of your blogs is utter nonsense.

The chances of anything happening to any of them is as likely as the whoever is making these snide remarks possessing anything that resembles an intelligent bone in his or her body!

As Docmac said, childrens names are being used on computers world wide, and anyway, the likelihood of anyone being able to locate a child from their first name is absolutely (to quote CM) ludicrous in the extreme.

So rest easy, ignore their idiotic remarks and don't give them another thought. As you said, you don't go there now, and I don't blame you; if you ignore their inane comments they will soon go away.

Hi Dyl, Nancy and Claudia

That incident and date has affected many of us in a way that can never be erased. Having read what you have written it has affected some in a much more personal way. Condolences.

Dyl, I still don't watch anything to do with that terrible day. I was in my car when the first news was relayed to me. I had no idea of the true scale of the tragedy until I got home to see people jumping and then the second tower collapse. I can not watch anything about it now. Don't want to, either.

Doc, I was at the University when it happened. A colleague we bumped into (which was know for being a bit too emotional) was really nervous and saying something like 'NY is being destroyed' and then she disappeared. We thought she was making it up. My best friend and I left the university and went for a cup of coffee in a café. We entered and there were around a dozen people there, in complete silence, standing and looking at the tv. I remember seeing one of the planes hitting one of the towers and thinking: 'Oh my God, what a terrible accident'. I then asked the lady how an accident like that could have happened. She told me something like: 'Miss, that was no accident'. We stayed there for a couple of hours trying to understand what had happened. I called my father (who is always informed about everything) and got a clearer picture.
Then, two years ago the nightmare came back. This time on a personal level. P was 26 years old and died in her sleep. Just like that.

Last quick word on the dog comedy show as I have to go out.

Everyone knows the reputation of these two fantastic dogs, as well as the professionalism and expertise of their handler Martin Grime. 100% success rate, best in the world (like the FSS, lol!).

Until they didn't alert at all in or around the cars belonging to MuRat, the villa belonging to MuRat, or indeed anything belonging to MuRat at all.

Oh no, after sniffing their way through 10 vehicles, over 40 apartments and villas and thousands of individual items, they had to pick on the McCanns. Yep, Martin Grime and the dogs are 'frauds' now.

What a laugh! We all know what the story would have been if the dogs had alerted just ONCE to ANYTHING belonging to Murat or anyone else remotely resembling David Payne (except David Payne himself). Or even someone that looked like George Harrison, a giant boiled egg or a paper bag for that matter.

Honestly, any person with half a brain would have cause to think Murat was guilty if these dogs had 'fingered' him. But the golden couple? No way, say they!

Hi all,

Thought I would share this little story with you. From the mouth of babes.

My daughter, (Kylie-Dannii?), wanted to come home for lunch today, she had an appointment and was out of school at 11.00am we were home for 11.45am. She has just turned nine.
Whilst she was eating her lunch I popped onto Claudia's site for a mo. Whilst I was scrolling down my daughter walked into the study and caught sight of the Birthday photo's.

This is what she said:

"Why are they being rewarded?" "What do you mean?" I said.
"Has Madeleine been found?" she asked me excitedly.
I replied "No".
"Well why are they smiling and why do they look so happy?" she said.

I told her I did not know why they looked so happy and I also explained that the photo was taken 8 days after M disappeared and it would have been her fourth birthday that day.

"They look like she has been found and are happy to have her back" she said looking at the picture not really understanding it. "How can they be that happy when their daughter is lost, should they not be crying and be upset?" she asked me.

"What do you mean by rewarded" I asked her. "Well they look really, really happy and I thought that M had been found and they were rewarded by getting her back".

Just nine years old and can see that the pics are strange!

dylan said...

Hi all.

Zodiac, it is amazing how perceptive 9 year olds can be and Kylie - Danii sounds like a real bright spark! My own little 9 year-old (Shirley Knott) was watching a programme where a woman had 10 children. I know this is very un-PC but it was so matter-of-fact the way she said it that it was funny. She said: "Mummy, shouldn't that lady be sterilised?". Where on earth she got that from I don't know!! Gawd, I'll get a pasting from the dark side for that! Just need to say that this is not my view on large families at all and I did not teach my daughter that!!

Docmac, I only saw the first few moments of 9/11 on that morning and I'm mighty relieved that I didn't see anyone falling. The thought of what drives a person to make that terrible and tragic decision is just too awful to contemplate. I watched last night's programme as it was advertised as a survival story. There were survivors from the hotel but, alas, there were people who were not so fortunate and I didn't expect that. I can't watch war films and I abhor violence. One of the films that are studied in English at my childrens' high school is "Saving Private Ryan". I could not believe it when I heard. I had sat and watched it with a friend once and had to leave the room not far into the film. I know it's a 15, but still....

I just took a look at the dogs link from the pink blog. What a load of tosh! I found this comment particularly distasteful:

Perhaps he was sniffing around Goncalo Amaral and his recently deceased dog?

Need I say more??

Claudia, sorry for your loss. She must have been very special to you and I hope you are OK. xx

Cláudia said...

Hi, Dylan.
Thank you. She was very special to me. We were best friends since we were 14. Did high school and university together. She was a very happy, very intelligent and very talented young lady. She just left us too soon and in such an unexpected way. I have had 2 years to get used to the idea that she is gone. But sometimes it still seems it's not true. I am lucky to be very close to her parents, sister and nieces. Being close to them is like being a little closer to her. But it also makes it even more real the void that she left and the never ending pain of her family.
Thank you for your words.

bath theory said...

Good point Doc by the way about can you imagine the dogs going wild at Murat's place and questioning how the McCanns would react to that. Can you see them saying something like 'Well you can't rely on these dogs' or 'There is no evidence to show Mr Murat did anything' They set him up as a patsy and would have shafted him big time if Eddie & Keela had shown a reaction at his villa.

Hi all,

I sent a long post this morning regarding 9/11. I posted it and left, I see it it did not make it here it must be floating about in Cyberspace.

Claudia,

So sorry you lost your friend, she was very young. Good thoughts being sent to you this evening.

I like Di, watched in disbelief the horror unfolding before my very eyes that sad day. What an unjustified action such a waste of life.

Three years later my husband, daughter and I were in NYC. My husband wanted to visit Ground Zero, I did not want to but I did. Well I am glad that I visited Ground Zero. It was not until I stood there, where buildings used to be and people worked day in day out, did I fully appreciate the tragedy and horror of that day. My husband is religious I am not. He prayed with my daughter as we stood there I paid my respect in my own way. I will never forget how I felt standing there, I felt empty, sad and the grief was overwhelming. My thoughts are with everyone who has suffered because of 9/11, lives lost due to an act of terrorism.

We were also there in Oct 2006 when the baseball player flew his plane by accident into an apt building. That was pretty chaotic and I did feel fearful, the services soon had things under control and managed to ease peoples fears the News bulletins were quick to give the details of the incident and things soon calmed down. Respect to all of those who serve their countries.

They just don't want to face up to the fact that the majority of people are absolutely amazed at Keela and Eddie's talent and the fact that they only barked around the McCann's hired car and their apartment, says it all - but of course not to that lot of idiots.

As has already been said - if it had been Murat's house and car then they would have been hailing those dogs as superior beings. All hypocrites the lot of them!

Denise is not "dubbed 'Italy's Madeleine McCann'" anywhere else than in the UK... She has a story of her own. Madeleines name and Clarence Mitchell is obiously connected with every missing child, according to UK press!

Also on 5th May 2007, two days after the announcement of Madeleine’s disappearance, the police according to Amaral, would commit an important error: “we were busy checking all the traces that came with the Ambassador. Traces that were moreover, found to be false”.

New instructions from the regional national directorate of the PJ, given after the intervention of two British diplomats – Ambassador John Buck and Consul Bill Henderson – turned the investigator’s attention away from the McCanns.

Kate and Gerry McCann, for the first and only time, went to hand in clothes to be washed in the Complex laundry, including Madeleine’s clothes, which the inspectors only heard about two days later. Too late, according to Amaral.

“At the time we had not established exactly which clothes Gerry was wearing on the night of the disappearance nor which clothes were handed in to be washed on 5th May”, says Gonçalo Amaral.

It was by means of the statements by various members of staff from the complex, linked to the laundry service, that the inspectors were to learn that the McCanns had their children’s clothes - those of Madeleine and also those of Sean and Amélie -, washed.

Good morning Niki and all!

Niki, it would be wonderful if it is that little girl :-)

ICTOAN, I had a look at an article about the Channel Tunnel fire. I'm claustrophic and started to hyperventillate on the London Underground back in June, just because the train stopped, mid-tunnel, for a few minutes. If I were in the tunnel when a fire a broke out, well, you can imagine how I would have reacted!!
My ex is/was a firefighter but now works for USAR. Both USAR and firefighters do an incredibly brave job. It is no 17 in the world's most dangerous careers and the losses in the Twin Towers just go to show how selfless and amazing those firefighters were.

I found this comment from last year from an article about Eddie and Keela:

"These dogs are angels. Where would we be without these beautiful creatures. So upbeat and helpful. Yes they are trained to do this work, but I think their aim is to please us and do whatever thay can to help. So many dogs have helped people in their hour of need. The good thing about them is that they do not pass judgement on humans like we do, they just get on with the work and get good results. It gives a positive feel to this whole sad business of missing Madeleine, and if anyone can find her they will. No disrespect to the police, but the dogs sense of smell is the key to help this investigation. Good luck to them, hope they find Madeleine soon. I like to believe, like Gerry and Kate, that she is still alive. My support is with them."

- Carole, Cambridgeshire, England, 10/8/2007 14:10

I thought it was spot-on, especially the bit about not passing judgement on people. Shame certain other people can't be as magnanimous!

This figure has apparently been believed by the Aviation Authority to allow an alliance with an American airline and corner this market.

He went on to say that BAA had fooled the Aviation Authority and the PRESS. Well there’s a surprise for you Mr Branson – fooling the press is quite easy as anyone following the McCann case will tell you.

Washing Madeleines clothes 5th May
by Jacqui67 Today at 6:12 am

Gonçalo Amaral in Madrid: "The PJ was forced to issue a press release announcing the abduction of Madeleine"

John Buck, the British Ambassador in Lisbon at the time of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance went to Portimão to demand that the PJ immediately announce to the media – especially the British media – that the disappearance of Madeleine was an abduction and that her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann were two innocent victims.

“Immediately after Madeleine’s disappearance, when we did not yet know whether it was the case of an abduction or a different kind of crime, the PJ were obliged to issue a statement, on 5th May, announcing the abduction thesis”, announced inspector Gonçalo Amaral, emphasising that the statement had been issued in spite of his opposition and that of other inspectors participating in the inquiry.

Gonçalo Amaral was speaking yesterday in Madrid as part of an exclusive interview with SOS Madeleine McCann and Gazeta Digital.

According to sources close to the British Embassy in Lisbon, the Ambassador John Buck, previous to this intervention at the PJ in Faro and Portimão, has already discussed the affair with the Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs.

“In a situation like the one we were presented with, in the interest of the child, no possibility would have discarded, even the possibility concerning the parents, those that were close and the friends. Above all there was not the slightest indication of abduction”, Amaral concluded, emphasising that the “rest of the investigation has proved that”.

They took advantage of the space we gave them, it was a mistake on our part”

Also on 5th May 2007, two days after the announcement of Madeleine’s disappearance, the police according to Amaral, would commit an important error: “we were busy checking all the traces that came with the Ambassador. Traces that were moreover, found to be false”.

It was by means of the statements by various members of staff from the complex, linked to the laundry service, that the inspectors were to learn that the McCanns had their children’s clothes - those of Madeleine and also those of Sean and Amélie -, washed.

“That would never have happened without the intervention of Mark Warner and, in particular, of the Ambassador. They took advantage of the space we gave them, It was a mistake on our part”, admits Gonçalo Amaral.
“Last Saturday (05/05/2007) I received a bag of clothes brought in by Mark Warner staff, and was told expressly that these belonged to Madeleine’s family – they was adult clothing (male and female) and children’s clothing (...)” states one of the laundry workers.

Hi everyone -

Docmac -

The pieces are gradually coming together if you ask me!

I am beginning to think that GA is a very brave man to publish and be damned when so many people would just love to stab him in the back, including the McCanns!

I notice that CM hit the high road just before the videos of those wonderful dogs came to light which showed that only the McCann's rental car and apartment had brought any reaction - and what a reaction!!

Dylan -

It seems the McCanns couldn't afford the baby sitter service, but they could afford to pay for washing to be done! They got their priorities right then!!

Cláudia said...

Doc, if Eddie had looked in the direction of Murat's villa, they would want Murat publicly hanged and Poops would be the one kicking the chair.

12 September 2008 10:22

Um, the article did not say it was NOT a proper spade. It did, however, say that he arrived alone. It also implied that he left alone with a bucket and spade, as well as the suitcase which you so studiously 'forgot' to mention. He was also not going down to beach to build sandcastles with the twins, who were being looked after by a relative.

Doc, I'm sure that Gerry went to the beach to spend a few minutes making sand castles. Just to keep in touch with the child within. Very common amongst people who have their children 'taken'.

thanks for the thread about GG's article a year ago. I had never read that before - a breath of fresh air to actually hear someone say what he truly thinks instead of kowtowing. Unfortunately, one of the forum members e-mailed him two months ago and he hasn't replied! Do you think he's been got at?

We haven't heard from Jon Gaunt of the Sun for ages too - perhaps they are under threat of serving a term in the tower if they say anything other than the McCanns are whiter than white!! Or perhaps they are afraid of being sued!!

GG's comment about Shakespeare made me laugh!!

nancy said...

I can see what you are saying and the PJ's did have a difficult decision to make, but I still wish they had stuck to their guns and to hell with the consequences! Truth should be the deciding factor, especially where young children, who can't speak for themselves, are concerned!

The McCanns and their pals must be the most cosseted and untouchable child neglecters in the world!

Cláudia said...

Nancy, knowing what I know today, I also wish they would have done it. But I'm sure it would have created a huge diplomatic incident right away. Why do you think Mr Amaral stated that this case was more politics than police since the beggining?

nancy said...

Docmac -

Thanks for the thread on 3A's re BK and the Charity he set up - looks very fishy to me. Considering he's been bankrupt a few times, he seems to bounce back like a rubber ball!

As someone said there:

'If this Charity is set up to "award grants", then it could presumably award a grant to the Find Madeleine Fund, or directly to the McCanns in their desperate search their daughter"!

I also agree with one poster who said he could be after a knighthood, and next thing you know the McCanns will be receiving their 'good parents' MBE's from Her Majesty too!

nancy said...

Claudia -

And he was perceptive right from the beginning - hence his removal of course.

I hope his book is soon printed in English, although I wouldn't be surprised if someone put a ban on it being published there.

I hope he doesn't have as much trouble as he has had trying to get a lawyer to act for him!

Nancy, I hope he makes it. Sooner or later. I read somewhere that in a couple of months the English version should be available.

Doc Mac

As regards maritime law are you aware of this definition:

SEA LAWYER, n. One who attempts to shirk responsibility or blame through trivial technicalities. [This word is used chiefly in the Navy and at the Naval Academy to describe a midshipman or officer who uses technicalities and other trivial excuses to escape responsibility or punishment. Based on the popular stereotype of lawyers always arguing technicalities and trivial details coupled with the fact that the Navy is closely associated with water and the sea. ]
Context and source: "Most sea lawyers are not well respected by their classmates. (A Sense of Honor by James Webb)

Some Of the postings this morning bring to mind a tune written and recorded at the end of the 1920's entitled: A Pane In The Glass.

I think it might be appropriate for someone who's name escapes me.

Hiya all,

Just popped in briefly, back a bit later.

Kennedy would have to pay a small fortune in tax, one way to offset that tax is to make donations to charity but it has to be a registered charity, so watch out for Kate and Gerry changing the status of their limited company!

Hiya Nancy

Well sometimes I think I could almost write the script.

I think it will be sold to the public as Kate and Gerry now wish the Fund to benefit other "abducted" children too and so does Mr Kennedy which is why he has set this up...now will you believe Maddie was abducted? Now will you believe what lovely unselfish people we are? ..Nope ! I will continue to think, self-serving, arrogant liars who are simply not fit to care for children, at all, ever!

"If she had an accident in the apartment, how could that be our fault" ?? The words of Gerry McCann, a man in complete denial of parental responsibility, a man who minimises and denies criminal conduct as most serious criminals do!

Nice to know I was missed, there is just so much to do in the house and arranging workmen etc!

Mbeki committed domestic political suicide by trying to be a Tony Blair. He has spent less time in SA as president than most have spent on the loo in that period.

Whilst overseas he has of course done his best to commit international political suicide over his handling of the Mugabe issue.

Zuma has immense support amongst the Zulu and from the ANC Youth League. The latter is no recommendation, I can tell you! Bunch of rabble is what they are. On a national scale he probably shades the popularity stakes at the minute.

Having said that, he has had the charges dropped against him. Previously he was also, of course, found not guilty of rape.

I will tell you without a shadow of a doubt, Jacob Zuma was involved in the arms deal. And he's a rapist. With all Mbeki's faults, I would pick him over Zuma 100 times out of 100. But if I had a choice, I'd pick Helen Zille :-)
I'm quite sure your friends have heard of her!

Unknown said...

Hiya Nancy

Well I seem to have been doing alright so far!

We can clearly see the pattern in their behaviour, they have been spending the Fund monies on companies who protect reputation/minimise damage etc, like Control Risks Group and Red Defence International .."leading provider of specialist intelligence and threat mitigation capabilities to governments".

This was never about finding Madeleine, that is for sure! That would be the thing they dread the most..

Then of course there is the specialist solicitor Angus McBride again employed in his role to manage and minimise damage to a client's reputation when accused of serious offending behaviour. M3 themselves involved in very serious offending behaviour were clearly involved in framing/harassing Robert Murat and bribing witnesses. Gerry and Kate even recently admitted there is money available for those who provide "credible" information. Well human nature being what it is, there are any number of Gail Cooper's about who will say whatever if the price is right!

I think LP will watch with interests their continuing attempts to pervert the course of justice, it all stacks up!

Just meant to add, all has gone quiet on their ill=fated venture, Amber Alert, designed to improve their reputation. Hence, they move on, inexorably to the next scheme!

If their is a stereotype of a conning, self-centred, manipulative liar, with an ego so big he finds he needs shades to look at himself in the mirror, then one could look no further than Gerry McCann:-)))

I also thought that eventually there would be a parting of the ways between Gerry and another with an over inflated ego, Mr Ludicrous and I was right about that. In fact, I find it very interesting that, the permanent job with Kennedy never materialised. Strange that! I had to laugh, though, Ludicrous has a female boss at his new employment, can you imagine how he would handle that...guess you will just have to go home and hit the bottle Mr Ludicrous, stifling your rage. After all, one simply cannot exist on pro bono jobs!

I doubt if "A Pane In The Glass" was a "hit' in the sense we understand today as distribution of recordings was not international or even national in the way music is today.

The tune was "written" and performed by Clarence Williams.

You will understand the exclamation marks around the word "written" if you google him when you have time.

There are a number of people of that name and he is listed as Musician.

Hiya ICTOAN and Doc also!

and speaking of political suicide. Did you hear that GB has seriously put his foot in it again with his plain speaking. He has been openly singing the praises of Obama as the candidate of his choice. Trouble is that is against political convention and what about if the Republican wins, a bit like, what if the police win! Personally I like Gordon Brown and understand he just has to say it like it is but being a little more politically correct and perhaps keeping his own counsel rather than backing what may be the losing side, ie. Kate and Gerry/Obama could never be a wise political move!

Imagine the anxiety and confusion experienced by the natural mother. Imagine the absolute terror felt by this young girl. The way this case was handled by the authorities is outrageous.

I completely agree with you. I am fed up with this foreign versions of Madeleine. There is no other Madeleine. Period. Madeleine is important. We all know that and that is why most of us are still here. But the other children are as important. You're right, it's the price to pay now that His Disgusting Pinkness seems to have something to say regarding any missing child. If it is confirmed that this girl is not Denise, I hope the braindead character publicly states his solidarity for the child's mother. By the way, has the pink thing offered his simpathy about Rose's remains being found? Or doesn't it really matter since Rose was alledgelly murdered by those who should have protected her?

One reason for a human being to want to know the names of people who have information about a dodgy event happening is to pay them off.

In other words if you were able to get witnesses to contact you and you had enough money at your disposal then the next step would be to say something like 'Listen mate here is 100,000 pounds to forget what you know.' This is hard to do because the average punter in the street who does something wrong does not have that sort of access to a rich backer. But what if you did have access to someone like that or they suddenly landed at your feet?

Of course, this type of criminality could either involve money as highlighted above or it could involve threats and intimidation - classic playground bullying but unfortunately carried into adulthood.

Thus say you were personally involved in a planned horrific crime or indeed an accident aided by your negligence and you had a certain sort of personality. You may wish to cover it up big time but you would need to find that big money backer or backers asap.

If you had done something very very wrong and it became high profile you would need to ensure that the money supply was plentiful and preferably endless. Paying off the media and hiring expensive professional people who lack scruples costs a lot of money but if you do find them you are well away at escaping justice.

This is a strategy that one may consider 'high risk' and it would involve being very careful with your words and body language. The latter in particular could let you down.

Thus if you wanted to do such a thing it seems likely you would want to appeal directly to all those who have information and say provide a special telephone number so that witnesses may be tempted to call. It is likely many people would take the money and keep shut.

However it would be very difficult to keep an honourable policeman or judge quiet and even more difficult to control say police sniffer dogs that could get involved if the event was particluarly terrible.

I would look for people who evade open and honest questions, who find political and media connections quickly and who also find rich backers too. Of course if one was able to follow such a path and seemingly do it well it would be almost impossible to control a very smug grin across one's face.

Right from the moment Madeleine disappeared it has been one big play act from the McCanns.

Everything went so smoothly - the Fund being set up, the tapas pals virtually getting on the next plane back, the media averted before the police, millionaires and celebrities getting in on the act, walkabouts, trip to the White House by Gerry, visit to the Pope -interviews on television, magazines etc. Everything went off like clockwork - not a foot wrong.

However, I don't think in their wildest dreams they thought that those intelligent dogs would detect in the hire car, their apartment and clothes belong to Kate and Madeleine.

I'm sure the LP and the PJ, as well as the public, can't fail to be impressed by the way the dogs reacted and with any luck things will start to escalate from their findings! I am sure they hope it will just go away!

Education should be based on ability, fair entrance to university for all and out with the old boy network!

I don't think the McCanns reckoned on GA's book and even if they manage to ban an English translation (which makes them look even more guilty) they can't stop translations appearing on the www. I would add, this is nothing to do with ST's blog!

Thanks Viv.

Hiya Dylan

If you take out an injunction against someone in the civil courts then there has to be a court case. You would normally need a solicitor to prepare this for you and therefore would be liable for costs and court issue fees in the County Court. Unless of course you are on a low income and may be granted legal aid. To get legal aid you not only have to be on benefits or a very low income your case would also be tested for the merits i.e. the harassment you are suffering would have to be pretty bad! What often happens when someone applies for an injunction is that the harasser turns up for court and signs an undertaking not to persist in such behaviour which is just as good as an injunction and can then be enforced if they breach it, but again, you would be liable for the costs unless you get legal aid.

But harassment, if serious, is also a criminal offence. In this case if the police are satisfied that someone is pursuing a course of conduct likely to cause alarm, fear and distress then they will take the person to the Magistrates Court and of course you do not then incur any costs. These proceedings are taken under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 if you want to look that up. Quite often when someone first makes a complaint of harassment to the police, they will ask you to start keeping a careful log and copies of all emails, notes, visits, calls, texts etc or if you are being followed etc. If a person repeatedly subjects you to this and and you can prove it, then the police will take action. But in either the civil or criminal law there always has to be a court case. If criminal proceedings are brought the person can and often does get sent to prison if they breach the restraint order the court will make. But this can also happen in civil proceedings, in this case the court would say the person is in contempt of court and send them to prison but this generally only happens in civil cases where the behaviour is very serious. Usually in former intimate relationships where the woman has sought to get rid of a violent and abusive man but he just will not leave her alone.

On balance therefore the best thing you can do is report the matter to the police and state your life is being made intolerable and you want the perpetrator prosecuted.

I cannot and will not give specific legal advice on this blog but hope this helps.

Jeez, Viv.

I'm no lawyer but how many abused wives in the UK are killed or maimed for lack of money or whilst awaiting an investigation or a court date? They are surely the ones who would make the most use of this system?

In SA an abused woman can have an injunction (protection order) in place within an hour or two. The abuser may of course appeal against the order, but at least it would be in force for those who really do need it.

Got to sleep now, but I will read your answer later.

Another brilliant post BT on and your comments about GB ROFL but just maybe you have a point, their prosecution would be embarassing for him, I am sure! Could he be big enough to admit how wrong he was, for a politician that would be a first I reckon! x

Hiya Doc,

Injunctions can and do get granted the same day, but within one hour, no way! Also if a man is particularly violent or abusive he is going to he held in police cells until produced to the court the following morning and a remand in custody is always a possibility but of course our prison overcrowding militates against those decisions.

Two women are murdered in UK every single week and it is a sad fact that police officers are still not properly trained to understand and appropriately deal with domestic violence. Time and time again we read of women dying where they did keep reporting the abuse but nothing was done to protect the woman, it is a national disgrace. But I guess the problem is the same as trying to deal with abused children, the problem is simply vast and no government has the courage to throw the money and the resources at it that both situations most certainly deserve. The sad reality can be, persuading the police to take action can be a real battle and not one that victims should have to fight. It is also a bit like the NHS, something of a lottery where the luck of the draw, who you get to see and in what area you live, plays a major part. I know local police officers andd I know the stereotypical attitude of officers to female complainants from a certain local authority estate, but those women are the most at risk of all. If Kate McCann rang them she would get first class service, of course.

Education and training also cost a lot of money!
