Kate and Gerry McCann are considering legal action to stem the endless tide of smears against themselves and their friends in the Portuguese media.
They have suffered a hurtful whispering campaign implying they or members of the group they dined with on the night their four-year-old daughter Madeleine disappeared had been involved in her murder or abduction.
The couple have endured the slurs with dignity, but now they appear to be ready to fight back.

And one particular target appears to have fallen into their sights - glamorous Portuguese TV reporter Sandra Felgueiras.
For the Portuguese people, the blonde broadcaster has become the face of the Madeleine story, bringing live updates to their living rooms on national television station RTP.
But the McCanns are incensed over at least one live broadcast by Miss Felgueiras, 30, in which she is said to have implied Mrs McCann could have murdered her own daughter.
Now the McCanns are considering taking libel action under Portuguese human rights laws protecting the right to a 'good name', said a friend.
Police now believe Madeleine McCann may have died in the apartment
In the week leading up to the 100-day anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance, there was a flurry of media reports based on the police theory that the little girl died the night she vanished.
Some implied that the McCanns or their friends, with whom they were dining at the Mark Warner resort in Praia da Luz, were somehow involved in her disappearance.
A source close to the McCanns said: "This is about trying to stop lurid accusations being aired. She [Felgueiras] was outrageous that week in the run-up to the 100 days. She really was outrageous."
The source claimed Miss Felgueiras's report 'encouraged a media frenzy', adding: 'Both the McCanns are hard-working, law abiding professionals. It is very important to protect their reputation.'
The exact wording of Miss Felgueiras's live report is unknown, because nobody has specified which one of many is at issue.
Miss Felgueiras said last night she had no idea which report it might be and denied ever branding either of the McCanns a 'murderer'.
She said: "I never said that and I never insinuated anything like that. I never in my life put anyone under suspicion but just told viewers that police are investigating the possibility that Madeleine has died and that it is murder or an accident.
"I'm absolutely sure that everything I said was only what the police were telling us concerning this new lead of the investigation.
"If the McCanns presume that this is an accusation against them, then that is their assumption, not mine. My conscience is completely clear."
Miss Felgueiras, who has personally interviewed the McCanns on several occasions, added: "I am the most moderate reporter. Sometimes other channels talk about things that I refuse to talk about. I even made a live report saying everybody is innocent until they go to court.
"Also I never talk about Kate and Gerry in an isolated way, I always talk about the couple. So it's very strange to be accused of saying Kate did something."
The McCanns and their friends have been battling adverse publicity for the past three weeks following a series of leaks from Portuguese police to the local media.
The McCanns have been accused of doping their children to get them to sleep, leaving them alone for hours on end while getting drunk, and of mounting a cover-up.
Their holiday friends have been accused of giving conflicting accounts of the evening, and one, Dr Russell O'Brien, was forced to defend himself against the hurtful and untrue suggestion that he was 'missing' at the time Madeleine vanished.
Mr McCann is set to talk for the first time about how becoming "household names' has taken its toll on his family.
He will travel to the Edinburgh International Television Festival this weekend where he has been invited to speak about the "double-edged sword" of launching such a wide public appeal to try to get his daughter back.

Time will tell. Anyone who uses such extreme bigoted words to put people down is either paid to do it or has a lot to lose from what the content of the words is exposing or questioning.
I don't know the couple and I didn't know their child who has vanished but as a human being who cares and who leads his life as he wants life to be rather than lead my life to gain money or status then I am concerned when something involving a 3yr olds disappearance doesn't add up.
In terms of religion etc I am sure of one thing. If my child was missing I would not be going to see the Pope despite spending years in PR and Sales Promotion and seeing the angle clearly. I would be on my knees searching from the first minute I knew they were gone. The slightest sniff they were in morocco or whereever I would be there knocking ion doors. My story would be straight and thus just like Rhys Jones' parents I would be open to any question from the press too.
I would not be concerned about image rights or any other right except my right to search. I know all people are not the same but many things seem extremely strange about this couple and friends not least the evidence Eddie & Keela found in the apartment and villa. Is it a crime to question? Only if you want the status quo to be maintained or you want your version of events to be believed at all costs.

So I just had a quick look and I gather that during a telecon between a UK police officer and Murat on 15 May the officer was telling Murat he could prove he is innocent because they can track where his mobile was and get all the calls etc and Murat is really thanking the UK Police for being so helpful to him!

I am getting very concerend for the Mother of the 3 year old child left home alone in a blazing fire.
Trying to think why the authorities are persecuting her for Neglect when the worse place she could have been was in a bar and we all know that is reasnoble parenting.
I expect a fund will be set up soon to help with her living expenses while she fights SS to get her child out of care.
Not being funny but the little boy is alive and is not missing so that has to be less serious than him vanashing into thin air with a Cadavar Dog and Blood Dog confirming someone died in the house..
Actually if it is true that this Woman left her child alone I hope the law comes down on her like a ton of bricks and the child is put first his wealfare comes first.
I would also like to question again why the McCanns have been rewarded with cash for letting Madeleine and their even younger twins down so badly night after night.
Justice for Madeleine and all Abused and Negelcted Children this country has let her and her siblings down in the most discusting way.

I agree with you. It just doesn't make any sense at all. There never was any logic to this case.
I suppose that this little boy is now safe, whereas Maddie (as we know, died) is presumed missing by some and that, maybe, is why they haven't been charged with neglect. If Maddie ever returned, I would think that they may be charged then. However, Viv said that Portugal wouldn't charge and neither would Britain as it happened abroad, I think.

OCTOBER 17TH THOUGHTS
I haven't been able to write for a while as the heartache of my child is consuming me. I spent about five hours on the phone to him the other night and received more devastating news!
Having gone to the hospital after his HIV diagnosis and having tests, x-rays, scans prodded pocked and looked at. We now have to cope with a new diagnosis of cancer of the blood, which I believe is quiet commonly related to HIV
I have since read up on the Internet and it seems to be related to his white blood cells and a bacteria. I'm not sure how much more I can take, where do I keep getting the strength to get more bad news. He's nineteen and been through so much in his life. I am finding hard as his Mother to go on its so hard. I struggle in debt trying to make ends meet as a single parent, as most do I am sure with the credit crunch. I'm not suggesting I am the only one in debt. But I am finding it so hard just to go through the motions of each day, every day. Having to deal with my son's illness and try to be strong for him is taking my breath away and would love to go to sleep and never wake up.
God I am taking risks here I suppose the help lines and the hospitals if they heard this would have me in a psychiatric ward again for sure. Just getting out of bed and going to work is such a chore. I feel short of breath all the time, I find my self having panic attacks and shut myself away from the world and don't speak to anyone. I have the odd day every couple of weeks where I ring some kind of help line, when I can find one that's open that is, just to release the pressure.
It make me laugh sometimes how each organisation can only talk about certain things and when you start rambling about what's happened the so called volunteer on the phone starts to panic and informs me they can't help me with that. Have you tried another agency? Have you gone to your doctor shhhhhhhhh PROZAC will help me I'm sure but don't take too many come back and see me in 2 weeks because there addictive.
I do wish I had never been born. Then I wouldn't have put my child through such misery. As I wouldn't have had my child does that make sense. Maybe I'm not making sense to my self I don't know any more I seem to walk around in a haze and life is a blur at the moment. There are just some people in this world who are dealt bad cards and I must be one of them. What do some people say life is what you make it and you make your life. But there seems to have been uncontrollable powers that made sure my life was bad. Fate plays a big part, wrong time wrong place I can go on but why my life has been xxxx and will no doubt continue to be xxxx till I either give up or die.

My son cried again on the phone the other night and all he kept saying was
"it's your fault you lied to me? You told me my life would get better after the abuse. " I did I kept telling him he had his whole life to look forward to. Did I lie Im supposed to say that to my children things will get better, it will be ok Are we not?
We are all victims of this crime, the whole family really including my younger son who I forget was only nine at the time it happened. I never talk about it to him, I never mention it to him its just a taboo subject and has it?
His main concern is I never mention it in front of his friends, I never mention it to anyone in the village and please don't talk about it, I don't want to. Is it healthy not to talk about it will he suffer in later years for ignoring what happened and pretending it never happened? I don't know I'm not a professional but then again what is a professional.
The only people I can relate to are those who have suffered the same as I have only they can understand and know what we go through. So-called professionals empathise, sympathise and try to diagnose and stop the pain. I'm surprised no one has suggested an operation to cut the pain out and maybe then it would go away.
When you watch a child abuse them selves by cutting their arms and legs with razor blades and telling you it releases the pressure and stops his head from wanting to explode, taking drugs and cant sleep unless they have 3 litres of cider a night so they don't have nightmares. When you have a child who walks into a department store and smells an aftershave and wants to be sick because it's a smell they remember how do you keep going. Am I strong? Am I just weak and bleat on about it? Should I be like my ex-husband and tell my child there's nothing wrong with you just go get out there and get a job?
I don't care what anyone say's. As a mother you carry your child for nine months, you feel them kick inside you, you give birth to them and the bond is different and they are part of you. You breath and they breath. I can't explain it only a Mother knows what I am saying. You hold that baby in your arms for the first time and all you want is a good and happy life for them. You sit and nurse them and watch them sleep. You pray they grow up good and free from harm.
How do you cope with a crime your involved in, committed by male sex offenders. Men who are Accountants, Funeral Directors, Solicitors, Builders, Disabled, Coach Drivers. Cry Its almost laughable many who have never been brought to justice. I have two choices curl up in a ball, forget about it and just move on or FIGHT, FIGHT for justice and also tell my story so others can understand the devious world of a paedophile, the Justice System in the UK and how it fails you, The National Health System in the UK and how its not set up to cope with this kind of devastation.
The compensation system for victims and the understanding that it's a token gesture. Yes you were a victim here's your pennies, we are so sorry, now go away and get on with your life! I cant get into my head that a degree in psychology and the name doctor or professor can diagnosis what's wrong with you. They can form an opinion of you be it good or bad. The powers that be listen and the mental health system who think by administering drugs to make the pain go away.

I am sorry for feeling resentment but when they offered my son thirteen thousand pound for being abused by nearly 200 men through out the UK. When they offered my son thirteen thousand for helping convict 7 paedophiles and making the streets little safer for other children even though it was only for a little while.
When they reduced the amount they offered my son by five thousand pound because at the time of the abuse my son was under the influence of drugs and alcohol
The man that groomed my child drugged him and gave him alcohol to abuse him Where is the justice in this world?
I need someone to explain to me if there is a god where was he when my child needed him? They offered my son who is mentally ill physiologically ill, who can't work in the real world, who lost his childhood, his education. How does that compare?
I feel angry with my self because it isn't about the money really. The money can't make it better, it can't make it go away and it can't make it so it never happened. But it can make them pay for what they have done. I want them to stand up and be counted Prison wasn't enough it will never be enough I want them to suffer financially for what they have done. I am not religious but I hope there is a god and I hope he punishes and I hope the devil and hell exist and fire and damnation and suffering when you dead and I hope they suffer as much as my son has suffered.
Having gone through all this MY HEART goes out to those who do recover from similar crimes. Maybe were not strong enough? They say time is a healer, but how much time do I have with my son?
Everyone keeps saying HIV is not the disease it was they can live normal lives, Leukaemia can even be cured. My fear is I will more than likely lose my son to another suicide attempt, be it blundered.
I don't really think he wants to die he just needs help and he cant get the right help. He is screaming inside as I am and no one listens. How do you make this better? How do you make it go away?
Would I be arrested if I say the truth? All I wanted to do was take these men into the woods pour over a can of petrol, set fire to them and watch to the end. Can you be arrested for having bad thoughts? Or are they good thoughts. The law states they have human rights. They are people, they have families, for god sake some of them were even married. I am angry, that the men my son put in prison have had more money spent on them in so called rehabilitation programs in prison, probation officers, being relocated, being given somewhere to live, be it next to some unsuspecting single mother and even helped to get a job to integrate back in to society. I am angry at the fact they have supposed to pay for the crime they committed and got lenient sentences because they admitted and pleaded guilty in a court of law. Do I have the right as a mother to be angry and scream at the powers that be or should I SIT CRY FEEL SORRY FOR MYSELF AND MY SON AND MY FAMILY shut up and get on with my life?
I am sure some do gooders out there will say they have paid for their crimes but god forbid it happens to their child, their grandchild, their brother let me be judged for hating them all.
Where did I fail as a mother? Why didn't I protect my child? Why didn't I run away with my child when I thought there was something wrong? Why did I not save my child? I can't answer these questions. I wish I could turn the clock back and if I could have seen into the future that this man was going abduct my child and sell him for a measly £500 at a McDonald's to a monster. I would have run, I would have left my husband and my two other children behind and saved him. Now it's too late too late for us all. I was apparently spoken of in not a pleasant way this week after being left alone for ages. One might wonder why someone felt it necessary to ridicule, and victimise my thoughts regarding the issue. My usual solicitor and Middle Temple barrister will be given copies. It is unusual to speak unkindly in this way and the average lay man may well say what were your previous inputs. I share them here for you all.
1) RE: CAR DOOR OPEN IN NIGHT AS MENTIONED BY A NEIGHBOUR APPARENTLY WHEN MCCANN'S IN VILLA
....Extremely interesting about the cousin and this article. As a father of two boys who have fairly recently left nappies I can agreee with you that the PONG is indeed a recognisable PONG, no doubt shit is shit.
But to be able to smell a dead body or body parts would surely take a trained nose. Say a Doctor would be able to say FLESH is FLESH or maybe say a sniffer dog specially trained in recognising such a smell. Presumably thats why Eddie and Keela confirmed what we suspected. As we have stated many times that IS EVIDENCE especially backed up by witness statements.
If this Mr.Wright was in court saying the back door of the Scenic was regularly left open and he smelt a strange odour it does not add up - AND THE REASON IS SIMPLE IF YOU THINK STRAIGHT.... if you or I hired a car that had a bloody strange odour in it we would simply get it replaced. If the odour story is true and the McCann's didn't ask for a replacement and kept the back door open at night then there is one conclusion - they were involved in her death and were hiding the body as Amaral and most of UK think.
It doesn't take Columbo to work it out, what it takes is facts and analysis based on common sense.
That is why dodgy people are keen to blur facts and worse - dress opinion up as facts. Without facts assumptions and hypothesis cannot be properly tested and results concluded.
Knowing what we all know to date let alone the stuff we don't there is enough to charge these two.
It is only the political interference that is keeping them out of jail. And politics is a fickle thing isn't it. (IMO)
TIME waits for no man and father time will do these two. I am 110 per cent sure of that and I believe they have realised it now too.

2) REPORT OF PRIVATE PLANE LEAVING PORTUGAL THE NIGHT OF THE DISAPPEARANCE
I distinctly remember seeing, not long after Maddie disappeared, a main tv channel like Sky or BBC showing a report with the fact that a private plane left that night. The implication being from the editor/producer of the news report was obviously that this was an important issue that the viewer should consider.
It is rarely mentioned (remember John Pilger's point about how an item gets out and then they scrap it when a bigwig steps in)and I have not seen anything regarding a private plane yet from Amaral over this.
As I have mentioned before I am sure I subsequently heard or it was stated at that time that a senior civil servant was on the plane. So does that mean the civil servant was sent out to GET this person out quickly or was the senior civil servant involved in something with that group of friends that involved children perhaps? Who knows.
This was discussed a few times on the DE chatroom.
This represents a bleak point for Madeleine and her justice however I am still very hopeful the truth/facts will out even it if takes a lot longer than we hope.

So why are you not demanding that the two Doctors and friends who all left their little children all aged 3 and under alone in holiday flats to fend for themselves whilst they wined and dined elsewhere night after night get into a Court? Why are you not demanding justice for the children who were all left in danger? Why are you not demanding that the UK Police investigate this case? Why are you not demanding that the two little siblings who have had a sister taken out of their lives because their parents thought more of food, wine and friends than their own children's safety be placed out of their care? Why are you unconditionally supporting the parents of the child supposedly taken by a professional paedophile ring? Why don't you take your head and stick it up your own @rse? Your posts would be well received there!
Zodiac, you're talking to the kind of people who left their children outside shops, forgot them there, returned home plus groceries minus child and then were able to laugh about it.

Claudia they are disgusting specimens of humanity. I do hope they open a blog to support the mother who left her 3 year old with a glass of milk and a doughnut in a locked room to go to the shops which were only a minute walk away. Using the McC time formula this would be well within the bounds of responsible parenting. The McC's eldest child is missing and they believe is being held by peadophiles. So no doubt the parents of this little boy who is alive and well can tell Social Services to p*ss off this is their business and no one else's!

What this man is asking us to believe, is that a doctor would really behave in this fashion?
Why would a doctor of all people go on an internet hate blog taking the p*** out of someone he thinks is suffering from the very distressing condition of OCD? A man who is supposed to be a doctor with all these credentials has been caught out making anonymous posts! Anonymous posts he says he does NOT make.

Claudia the parents of the little boy can use the same solid defence as the McC's. They can blame it on the egg. It was the egg that was left boiling in the pan that caused the situation that the little 3 year old boy found himself in. For anyone to say that the egg is not at fault then they are just cruel and causing further anguish and their comments are really hurtful and quite simply unhelpful. Now will CM be dashing to this family as their PR advisor?
