WHY DID MCCANNS WAIT 3 WEEKS TO ISSUE PIC OF MADDIE?

Produce this timeline from which it will be seen that on 20.5.07 Gerry McCann returns to UK, visiting home address and returns to Portugal on 22.5.07. Just two days later on 24.5.07 the McCanns release what they claim is the last picture of Madeleine. Now I don't mean to be cynical but isn't this a bit of a coincidence? For a family that have complained the police were not producing Jane Tanner's e-fit of egg-man, and wanted their daughter found how come they waited until after Gerry had gone home to produce this picture, a full three weeks later?

I have also been reading Briggite O'Donell's account again, one who on the face of it seeks to support the McCanns and is clearly a witness as to their conduct who can be believed in most respects I would have thought. She says that there was a tennis tournament for the children that day and they were racing around collecting tennis balls and so I would say the picture we all know and love of Madeleine gathering up those tennis balls is likely to be one of the last pics of her. So why don't the McCanns say that it is, why produce the one by the pool as the last pic and 3 weeks later, to boot?

I have studied that tennis balls pic very carefully on photo programmes and that mark on her wrist on the tennis balls pic most definitely looks like a really nasty bruise to me. On the pic by the pool her wrist is cut off from view. That I believe is why there was this delay in issuing a pic of Madeleine and why Gerry had to go home first. Maybe it is also the reason the police wanted Gerry's computer from his home address?

Notice also in this timeline the abduction is said to have taken place in between 9.30 and 10 as Gerry suggested in Panorama but he is now saying it took place at 9.15 to coincide with what Tanner says.

Notice also Kate now says one of the reasons they did not take the children with them was because they could not have walked all that distance to Milleniums but O'Donnell says they booked a table every single night at the TAPAS restaurant and she also says the following morning at breakfast time one of their friends appeared with their child, in a puschair. It was a ten minute walk to the Kids Club but one that other parents were prepared to tread, significantly, their child was carried back in a blanket..She highlights how just as their food arrived their baby woke up. She clearly implies that Jes bumped into Gerry around 8.30 as he was checking on his children. I believe the McCanns did go out at 8 pm and this was his first check..could this be when a grim discovery was made about the condition of Madeleine? If it was at this time when Gerry actually stood talking to Wilkins it would explain why neither of them saw Tanner...they needed to make it appear things happened much later on, perhaps? As we know from the waiters, Tanner never even left the table.

Why did one of the doctors go frantically banging on their door at 1 am but then say there is no point bothering to come and look she has been missing for three hours. Apparently although the McCanns had been allocated another apartment they went to the Paynes apartment and at 6 am got up and started looking for Madeleine, would you have even gone to bed, let alone wait until 6 am before you even bothered to look for her? Were they sitting planning with the Paynes? This same doctor appeared at breakfast the following morning with his daughter in the pushchair, so perhaps the McCanns could have used that?

Following the McCanns being named suspects in September, Wilkins/O'Donnell got hounded by newspapers we know to be Pro-McCann, emails began arriving threatening it would be better for him to co-operate...I do not believe the McCanns intended to give anyone who could provide evidence against them an easy time whether it was from the press or other more covert sources, their friends, their private investigators etc. Did this drive O'Donnell to write this piece to try and get some peace? Now we hear the McCanns are insisting all prosecution witnesses contact them, I hope they have more sense, not only from the point of view of breaking Portuguese law! Throughout this article O'Donnell stresses they are normal parents, who did not take risks and stayed in after trying the evening creche, to care for their little children.

"The Mark Warner nannies brought the children to the Tapas restaurant to have tea at the end of each day. It was a friendly gathering. The parents would stand and chat by the pool. We talked about the children, about what we did at home. We were hopeful about a change in the weather. We eyed our children as they played. We didn't see anyone watching.
Some of the parents were in a larger group. Most of them worked for the NHS and had met many years before in Leicestershire. Now they lived in different parts of the UK, and this holiday was their opportunity to catch up, to introduce their children, to reunite. They booked a large table every night in the Tapas. We called them "the Doctors". Sometimes we would sit out on our balcony and their laughter would float up around us. One man was the joker. He had a loud Glaswegian accent. He was Gerry McCann. He played tennis with Jes.

In the evenings, babysitting at the resort was a dilemma. "Sit-in" babysitters were available but were expensive and in demand, and Mark Warner blurb advised us to book well in advance. The other option was the babysitting service at the kiddie club, which was a 10-minute walk from the apartment. The children would watch a cartoon together and then be put to bed. You would then wake them, carry them back and put them to bed again in the apartment. After taking our children to dinner a couple of times, we decided on the Wednesday night to try the service at the club.
We had booked a table for two at Tapas and were placed next to the Doctors' regular table. One by one, they started to arrive. The men came first. Gerry McCann started chatting across to Jes about tennis. Gerry was outgoing, a wisecracker, but considerate and kind, and he invited us to join them. We discussed the children. He told us they were leaving theirs sleeping in the apartments. While they chatted on, I ruminated on the pros and cons of this. I admired them, in a way, for not being paranoid parents, but I decided that our apartment was too far off even to contemplate it. Our baby was too young and I would worry about them waking up.
My phone rang as our food arrived; our baby had woken up. I walked the round trip to collect him from the kiddie club, then back to the restaurant. He kept crying and eventually we left our meal unfinished and walked back again to the club to fetch our sleeping daughter. Jes carried her home in a blanket. The next night we stayed in. It was Thursday, May 3.
Earlier that day there had been tennis lessons for the children, with some of the parents watching proudly as their girls ran across the court chasing tennis balls. They took photos. Madeleine must have been there, but I couldn't distinguish her from the others. They all looked the same - all blonde, all pink and pretty.

Our baby would not sleep and at about 8.30pm, Jes took him out for a walk in the buggy to settle him. Gerry was on his way back from checking on his children and the two men stopped to have a chat. They talked about daughters, fathers, families. Gerry was relaxed and friendly. They discussed the babysitting dilemmas at the resort and Gerry said that he and Kate would have stayed in too, if they had not been on holiday in a group. Jes returned to our apartment just before 9.30pm.

At 1am there was a frantic banging on our door. Jes got up to answer. I stayed listening in the dark. I knew it was bad; it could only be bad. I heard male mumbling, then Jes's voice. "You're joking?" he said. It wasn't the words, it was the tone that made me flinch. He came back in to the room. "Gerry's daughter's been abducted," he said. "She ..." I jumped up and went to check our children. They were there. We sat down. We got up again. Weirdly, I did the washing-up. We wondered what to do. Jes had asked if they needed help searching and was told there was nothing he could do; she had been missing for three hours.

The next morning, we made our way to breakfast and met one of the Doctors, the one who had come round in the night. His young daughter looked up at us from her pushchair. There was no news. They had called Sky television - they didn't know what else to do. He turned away and I could see he was going to weep.

In early September, Kate and Gerry became official suspects. Their warm tide of support turned decidedly cool. Had they cruelly conned us all? The public needed to know, and who had seen Gerry at around 9pm on the fateful night? Jes.
Tonight with Trevor McDonald, GMTV, the Sun, the News of the World, the Sunday Mirror, the Daily Express, the Evening Standard and the Independent on Sunday began calling. Jes's office stopped putting through calls from people asking to speak to "Jeremy" (only his grandmother calls him that). Some emails told him that he would be "better off" if he spoke to them or he would "regret it" if he didn't, implying that it was in his interest to defend himself - they didn't say what from

Kate and Gerry McCann leave their daughter Madeleine and her brother and sister, twins aged 2, in bed in their apartment while they have dinner at a nearby restaurant. The girl goes missing from her bedroom between 9:30 and 10 p.m. while her parents Kate and Gerry are dining just 100 yards away at the Mark Warner Ocean Club holiday resort in Praia da Luz. A window and shutter are open and she is presumed to have been abducted.

Initial search sniffer dogs 4.30 am McCann family members and British media criticise local police for what they call a slow initial response, failure to notify ports and borders in time, and failure to secure the crime scene, which may have led to vital clues being lost. Border police, the Spanish authorities and airports are notified. Volunteer teams continue to comb the village, resort and beach for clues. Police say that under Portuguese secrecy laws they are unable to reveal details of the investigation. Sniffer dogs are brought in, the Spanish and border police and airports are notified and volunteer teams continue to comb the village, resort and beach for clues. Fears grow that Madeleine has been taken against her will and her parents accuse the Portuguese police of not doing enough to find her. The Policia Judiciaria - the Portuguese CID - refuses to comment on the investigation into the girl's disappearance. Relatives including Madeleine's grandparents start flying out to Portugal to offer support to her parents as they continue to wait for news. The British Ambassador to Portugal, John Stephen Buck, and director of Mark Warner UK Operations Craig Mayhew also travel to the Algarve. The McCanns later make an emotional plea, directly addressing their daughter's abductors, and speak of their "anguish and despair". With his wife at his side clutching Madeleine's favourite teddy, Mr McCann asks: "Please, if you have Madeleine, let her come home to her Mummy, Daddy, brother and sister."

Police say they have put together a sketch of a suspect and confirm they believe Madeleine is still alive and being held within three miles of the crime scene. Media reports say the sketch is vague and only features the back of a man's head. Sketch kept secret for safety of M Three Family Liaison Officers (FLO) from Leicestershire Police arrive in Portugal to support the family. Madeleine's aunt Philomena McCann criticises the Portuguese police, claiming they had played down her disappearance and were being "uncommunicative". Detectives reveal they do now believe she was abducted but is still alive and in Portugal, and say they have a sketch of a "suspect". Police also reveal they are considering she might have been abducted for sexual abuse. Mr McCann makes a fresh appeal for help and thanks the police for their efforts. A colleague of Madeleine's mother offers a £100,000 reward for help in finding the missing girl.

Mum Kate weeps at church service. The McCanns attend an emotional Mother's Day service in Praia Da Luz and prayers are said for Madeleine and her family in both Portuguese and English. Mrs McCann then breaks down with emotion as she addresses reporters to express her gratitude for the local community's support. Questions arise about the police's sketch of a "suspect" with one newspaper reporting the image is based only on the rear view of a man seen with a child in the area.
May 7th
Kate McCann makes an emotional appeal for her daughter's safe return. Police begin investigating a claim a man was seen dragging a girl towards a marina a short drive from the Portuguese resort where she went missing. Portuguese media later report that police think the abductor may have been British but this remains unconfirmed by officers involved in the investigation. Mrs McCann makes another personal plea to anyone holding her daughter, saying: "Please, please do not hurt her. Please do not scare her. Please let us know where to find Madeleine or put her in a place of safety and tell somebody where." Portuguese police later hold a chaotic press conference where they say they cannot give Madeleine's family any firm assurance that she is still alive or still in the region.

Police say they have investigated 350 suspicious incidents but still have no idea where she might be. They also issue an image of a pair of pyjamas identical to those which Madeleine had been wearing when she disappeared. Gerry McCann said: "There is absolutely no way Kate and I are involved in this abduction.A mystery phone call came from a man claiming to know the whereabouts of Madeleine. Zodiac -

Hi - and glad the UK is enjoying some lovely weather - let's hope you all have a lovely long sunny summer!!

Like yourself, I'm sure that most of us on Viv's forum don't go along with the idea that Madeleine was abducted by someone unknown.

What I can never come to terms with is the way that Gerry and Kate can seem to be so unemotional about Madeleine's disappearance.

I was on the McCann files this morning - clicked on 'Kate' and there were some u-tube videos I was watching. One that really got me thinking was called 'Happy Talk', and every shot of Kate and Gerry they are smiling or laughing - in fact the picture of them in Morocco with Kate doing her Princess Diana is included - it's well worth looking at.

They seem to able to turn the emotions on an off whenever it suits them. Not normal for parents who have lost a child, and as far as they are concerned she could be with a paedophile! Could anyone smile and laugh if they thought their child was with a paedophile? Not normal at all!

Hello Nancy

How are you???

Thanks for that.

I dont take it personaly they can call me what they want we are on the world weired web as leigh would say and as the DX was my first ever blog and this one will probebly be my last I find it amusing when they try to decide I am nasty or the worse insult of thinking I am a perfect parent (is there such a thing)... I guess they all think they can read people but no one knows me so how can they???

As I said it is a shame this site is about such a tragic subject but over the last few months I have met (so to speak) some intresting people (yourself included) and it is nice to chat...

I will just be me I have a very fortunate and happy life and enjoy every single day if certain people dont want to believe that or want to imply I am jealous of the McCanns (and I cant think of anything they have to be jealous about no matter what they have done they cant be happy their daughter is no longer with them for one thing and apart from that they are just two ordinary people)...

I dont know what the outcome of this very sad case will be and unless Madeleine is found alive and well I dont really care as it wont help her at all. But I will stay...

I am off to the park with my dog it is so lovely out side so best make the most of it...

hope to catch you later xxx

Hi Everyone

I am sorry we have lost Swedishmum, it is her right to think we are not aiding the cause of justice but one I cannot agree with.

If the public did not openly say what they really think then all we would be left with is McCann spin where many parents may be influenced into thinking they are in fact innocent and there was nothing wrong with their behaviour.

We have just seen another example of drunken and neglectful behaviour from British parents and so the message is not getting across.

To me that is reason enough to exercise our right to free speech, to protect other children from suffering the same fate as little Madeleine McCann.

I haven't posted anything for a while as I've had a lot on my plate but just wanted to say to Swedish Mum, if she is still reading, that I am so sorry to see you say your goodbyes. You are a fantastically well-balanced & obviously educated lady. You are kind and considerate and a credit to your nation. I hope you can post again sometime as you will leave a void in our hearts. Best wishes to you and yours x

Hope, thanks for your email. I did mail you back last night but my pc did a wobbly and lost it all & i was too tired to re-write it. Sorry & I'll try to mail you again this evening. PS how could ANYBODY, EVER describe you as 'not nice'? I am astounded. luv dyl xxx

It's understandable that Gerry is a bit perturbed when Kate is doing the talking - here are a few of Kate's quotes as shown on the McCann Files and which I hadn't seen before:

1. "It really isn't easy coping. Some days are better than others. There are days when you think - I can't do this anymore and you just want to press a button and we are all gone - wherever. But you can't, you know. Just occasionally you'll have a... if you're having a really bad day which we do, and you can't help thinking that".

2. "We have had moments when it all gets too much and you think - I'd just love to pull the duvet and it's all over"

These two statements sound to me as if Kate really needs help. I hope that Gerry is keeping a close eye on the twins' welfare if Kate is having thoughts like those!

3. Breaking down in tears Kate said during one interview:

"The Portuguese Police want me to lie - I'm being framed. The PJ's don't want a murder in Portugal and all the publicity about them not having paedophile laws. So they are blaming us"

Why did Kate say 'murder'? If they think that Madeleine was abducted why didn't she say 'the Police don't want an abduction in Portugal'?

Just a few quotes that I personally hadn't known about!
I'm sure they are bona fide quotes because the McCann files seem a highly respected site.

Having seen Kate's demeanour recently though, she certainly seems to have survived the bad days!

Hiya Nancy

It will perhaps come as no surprise for me to say I have studied most of what is available in the public domain.

I have watched the Happy Talk video which sends a powerful message that in fact Kate and Gerry McCann were not sad, but overjoyed. That is intensely sinister and has certainly helped to shape my own opinion that all they ever wanted to do was become famous themselves and cash in on the death of their own little girl. That suggests to me parents who are far worse than just neglectful.

There is nothing to save little Madeleine but what has happened could save countless other little children by aid knowledge and understanding, bringing Kate and Gerry McCann to justice and sending a very powerful and informed message to any other parents who would think of acting the same. We have seen the influence on hapless Karen, it is an evil influence that we should continue to try and counter, including those on another site who even suggest the PJ themselves have taken Madeleine... sick and bizarre.

I hope we can try and ensure that little Madeleine's short life was a very important one and that she did not die in vain. If she is helping to save other little children that is a lasting tribute to what a wonderful little girl she was. It is she who deserves to be a famous figurehead, not her mother.

You are right of course. It is sad to lose Swedish Mum, but we must keep up the fight for justice for Madeleine. It stands to reason that the Madeleine forums will all fade out one of these days, but I don't think it will be until we all feel that those responsible are brought to justice!

If we can save just one child from Madeleine's fate then it will be worth all the effort and possible setbacks.

I hope the bathroom is going well!! Nothing quite like a nice long luxurious bath after a hectic day!

Hi Dyl

How is it going??? I will check my e mail later but I know what it is like when things are manic so dont worry if you dont have time...

LOL the not nice thing I think (and I am not about to start analysing how others think as I am not qualified) is to put us down in what they see as our personality so Viv is Vile (why?) LGC is just not funny (well she makes me laugh so I guess they dont have a sense of humour) and Doc is not a Dr (I believe he is but does it matter if he is not?)...

Others are diffrent things (like the dreams and visions LOL you were described as a hippy and I drift) what the hell does it matter what we are on line it wont ever make me think diffrently???

It makes me laugh at any rate bless em xxx

Thanks for that - yes, I guessed you had probably seen it and the rest of the stuff I have written about. Mind boggling really and unbelievable that the McCanns can keep up this charade!

I think for those on Sassy's blog to say that the PJ's could have taken Madeleine is maniacal quite frankly. I hope they have to answer for their wild accusations one of these days! They are unbelievably stupid! Let's hope they all get blown away one of these days!

Poor Madeleine - what did she do to deserve her fate! And I worry about the little twins I really do!

See you later

Hiya Nancy

Life goes on as they say and many people, yourself included have been a powerful voice giving informed public opinion.

This forum becomes quieter, summer is here, we know the PJ and British Police continue to work to secure justice for Madeleine, but I just want to stress justice means for all children, not just for Madeleine.

This forum will continue so long as the debate continues, once the McCanns are charged and brought to court I am sure we will be content. But there should be an encouragement to then look at the wider issues concerning this case and how the British Government in particular can learn the lessons from everything it has told us about the very worst of British parenting. What can then be done to prevent another tragedy like this or to prevent children maybe not actually losing their lives but living a sad and miserable life, being left alone to sob, whilst mom and dad enjoy themselves. That is about social policy and education for a happier future for little children, our future.

Good evening everyone:)

Ecolab! Interesting about the pool-picture! Did you read the link I posted yesterday morning from Truthformadeleine?

Swedishmum, Ironside, ICantThinkOfAName, Alsabella, Dr.Val, Big-L (and others....) have been reading you all on DE. I miss reading your posts!!!

Dolores, bonna sera!

Re.the bag: Kate said hours before she was made arguido:
Furious at the astounding claims, Kate, 39, said of the police: "They are basically saying, 'If you confess Madeleine had an accident, and that I panicked and hid the body in a bag for a month then got rid of it in a hire car, I'd get two or three years' suspended sentence.'

I belive "for a month" and "in a hire car" does not fit in. The sentence is then: Madeleine had an accident, I panicked and hid the body in a bag then got rid of it...
is how the "correct" sentence should be.

Hi Claudia
I have been busy at work the last week so have not posted too much. May I ask a question.

How will the investigation be affected by Ribeiro being replaced by Rodriguez. Will it make it more likely that the McCann's are charged or less. Do you know th epolitics behind his resignation?

Hi Viv -

Yes of course it's not just Madeleine we must keep in our thoughts, but all those kids out there who are not getting the love and attention they deserve. People shouldn't have children if they aren't 100% committed to the task of bringing them up through bad days as well as good. It's not an easy job, but a very worthwhile one, because how you treat your children has a knock on effect as to how they treat theirs, and consequently what sort of world we all live in. Thank God for the NSPCC or there would be a lot more children suffering in the world. They do a fantastic job with abused children and it's a charity I always support.

The problem about A.R. was not only because mccan case but also other polemic cases here.. and about declarations he did concerning PJ neing not dependent from Justice Ministerey but another ministry . PJ is in resrestruturation , and it is discussed in parlement. What he proposed will PJ dependent of politics and not justice.
i don't know if could explain well myself

Thanks Mandarin. I was just wondering how it might have an impact on the case and whether it was good news, if you believe in justice for maddie.

Evening All,
Viv, Ecolab and Atardi: that photograph is doctored, imo; I agree with you. Any Picture Editor could spot the misplaced shadows.

Mandarinn and Bath Theory: as far as I understand it, the recent change in PJ puts the police investigation in a more powerful position.

This ongoing investigation appears to be gathering more support from the public, and civil servants, despite the cynical, expensive mechanics trying to divert it; the expensive political, media, PR, and commercial network of poor, dear missing Maddie's parents - who will themselves be betrayed by their superficial supporters, just as Maddie has been used as a commercial trademark, a 'marketing ploy'...her father's words.

mandarinn said...

Actually the PJ position is stronger, but there are already reaction from the magistrature who use to direct it "Public Ministery" (prosecuter).and so...i don't know...because PJ investigate but it is prosecuter who decide what to do with the investigation results

ta ra said...

Mandarinn,

Instinct tells me that the PJ and the Public Ministry are stronger now, as a result of the Maddie madness, imposed on Portugal by provincial nobodies, and political wannabes from the UK - the country with the unhappiest children in the Western world, according to the United Nations.
'Unhappiest' means unprecedented levels of child neglect, abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, teenage pregnancy, and suicide.

As our Nancy reminds us: the NSPCC, the UKs oldest child protection agency deserves our support, for it loves and protects every child, not just one missing English girl, 'disappeared' because of her parents' neglect, and the misguided support of their family, and friends (the friends who drew in ignorant, arrogant political dolts and PR mechanics, imo).

No, I did not move. But I'm redecorating. New furniture all over the place, wall painting, floor replacing, etc. :-)
As for the good soul, well, it's a difficult job but someone's gotta do it! :-)

Bath theory, hello.

I don't know if Ribeiro's resignation and replacement by Almeida Rodrigues will have a big impact on Madeleine's case. But I think it will be positive. It is always good to have a policeman in charge of the police instead of magistrates and wannabe politicians...
Alípio Ribeiro had no choice but to resign. If he hadn't, he would have been sacked. It was just too much. When he suggested that the PJ should be under the control of a different Ministery, the Union President asked for his resignation immediately. He had no choice. I have to confess that I was extremely happy and have celebrated! :-)

Mandarinn, how are you? At 11 o'clock, on RTPN, Mr Paulo Pereira Cristóvão will discuss all this! :-)

ta ra said...

Mandarinn.
Ok. So it is that institutions in Portugal are changing. Fair enough.

As for the proof required in a court of law: that is a problem we accept in our democracies.

I believe that the police and others know that the McCanns are rightly accused of being responsible for 'missing' Maddie.

However, criminal court requires a higher standard or proof to charge anyone involved in her 'disappearance'.

Fortunately, the world weird web assists defiant media, and wily police inquiry.

Just a thought. Keep the faith...the faith with voiceless, defenceless, harmless children, betrayed by parents, politicians, and PR mechanics.

Claudia, Mandarinn and Ana, thank you for uplifting news!

Dear Leigh and Docmac. I would like to ask the two of you, the one who heals bodies and the other souls, a question...

If the McCanns are charged for murder, how will all small children who has been "following" this case react? My youngest son (5) is asking me every time he sees a picture of Madeleine: "Did they not find her yet?". What if he one day sees in the news that her PARENTS killed her! Will he be afraid of his father and me? The "boogy-man" is someone to be afraid of, strangers are to avoid, but PARENTS?
My son is just an example, I'm sure I can protect him and excplain, but what about all this children in UK who has collected money, put up posters, worn t-shirts and wristbands etc.to support the McCanns?

Have to go to bed, but hope to read you tomorrow.

UK,

If anyone saw Jeremy Paxman's interview tonight on BBC2 with yet another arrogant 'jock';'the jock' defending the indefensible; then we may need to accept in the UK that our petty, provincial nobody wannabe politicians have well and truly lost the plot.

Unprecedented political support, giving preferential assistance to to the Mcanns, contrary to diplomatic advice, may yet be exposed as one of the UKs most shameful episodes.

A moment when national interest, and diplomatic fraternity, gave way to the petty, provincial, tribal, commercial, profitable interests...for the McCanns, their friends, and their family.

Hiya all

Interesting read, as ever. There are usually positives and negatives when something tragic happens.

Politically, I think there have been positives. Gordon Brown and others have learned that we, the British public do not find it acceptable to offer a cosy shoulder for Kate and Gerry McCann because of their position in life.

Children are abused by all classes of parents and when they are we want the parents all treated the same, according to the criminal law, not by the influences of politics where people inevitably take sides according to which best suits their own agenda. I believe that by the public so strongly express their views on the WWW the government have been influenced to see things in a more positive light, an honest one.

In Portugal it seems they have looked at how their most able and senior police officers are managed and made changes for the better. This will aid the outcome of the continuing investigation I believe. Detectives have a thirst for finding out the truth and working in the best interest of victims, and locking up villains. From the top down this is what the PJ will do in dealing with this case.

Niki highlights some of the terrible negatives, the incalculable victims the McCanns have created. It is like throwing a pebble in a pool...countless thousands of children working, collecting, believing that little Madeleine could be found. How terribly distressing when they have to face the truth. Maybe children do have to learn, in an incremental way, that the world is not a perfect place, there are bad, dangerous people. That is a fact of life.

Dear Niki,

One answer to your question would be this perhaps:-)

For the child, the parent is the universe; the world as they know it, as they want to experience it.

Like you, I am unhappy about how my children have heard and seen - and I will be very blunt about this now for the sake of how children see this case - children have heard and seen the scary McCanns, the parents who smile, laugh, jog along, get money and media attention...while their little girl Maddie is 'missing', and they are official suspects in her disappearance, suspected of her death, and disposing of her body.

B****y *ell!!! How scary, weird, freaky are these McCanns and their supporters? No wonder children fear them, and question their parents and teachers about them.

Children want a picture of the world; a place inhabited by their family, and friends...not a place disturbed by smiling, happy parents who abandoned their children abroad, and one of them is 'missing'...children think Maddie is dead, and cannot understand why her 'parents' can smile, laugh, make a profit, and court celebrity while their first born child is 'missing'.

Niki:
I reassure my children that they can trust me, and their family, and they must pray for children who lack trust in their family.

My children pray for every child, not just one missing English child.

God willing, my grandchildren will do the same.

Hi everyone,

The weather was really nice here so we "lived" in the garden the whole day.

Hope, If you are reading tomorrow ( will be today for you) I have sent you a mail.

Leigh3/Ecolab,

There is really smt not good about the picture. Like I said before the McCanns underestmated the "world watching". They thought it would be a case between England and Portugal. They thought this case would be over in one or two months.

But they never thought about all the expats living and earning money in Portugal and depending on the tourism. They never thought they would be affect their own British people.

So what RP said on the DE about people not wanting to go to Portugal on Holiday will destroy herself because if all the expat's can't make a living in Portugal they must go back to England and we all know what that means......

Hiya Atardi

I agree I think the McCanns and their advisors with such people as Clarence Mitchell, Edward Smethurst and his boss - acknowledged to be a bit of a rough diamond, have very consistently failed to credit the general public with the intelligence to see through their strategies to misinform and confuse with a surfeit of false sightings and details.

Consensus does seem to be there is something seriously wrong with that so called last picture. Fundamentally, I would say it is the fact that it took Gerry McCann a full three weeks and a trip home to produce it. That is probably enough said! The hypocrisy from this couple is never ending, they have spoken of their frustration with secrecy of justice etc and delay in putting Madeleine's details "out there". At no stage do they choose to address why it took them such a long time to produce this picture. Neither do they choose to explain how on earth any couple would ignore police advice and advertise Madeleine's eye defect which would for sure have signed her death warrant. No, they used it as a marketing logo, that is all Madeleine has ever been to them, a money spinner. Simply grotesque.

Whilst it is a little difficult to follow I think this is a good article from today's Correio de Manha setting out the background and detail of the resignation and replacement of the former head of the PJ who was a judge, not a policeman! Clearly there is great unhappiness that Goncalo was removed from the investigation, which I certainly share and further great unhappiness that ultimately he retired. At least now he can speak out. I know that is highly unlikely but it would be lovely if he was apologised to and invited to join the investigation again xx

New leadership in the Judiciary
Magistrates may abandon Judicial
Almeida Rodrigues is the new director of the National Judicial Police. However the Alípio Ribeiro, deputy attorney general who presented the resignation yesterday. For the first time in the PJ has a leading man of the house, someone who started as an agent and traveled all levels of the hierarchy.

With the entry of Almeida Rodrigues guess is exits: magistrates who are still in middle management positions - positions of deputy directors national - and who are in the grip of a 'crisis' of powers. This situation - is the first time that the Government does not opt for a magistrate to lead the PJ - can create corporate embarrassment, as many have already questioned whether prosecutors and judges may be in direct dependence of a non-magistrate. Under the new Organic Law, which should enter into force in the coming weeks, the same committees of service must be launched, which will lead inevitably to the formation of a new team and that the name of magistrates again pass through the sieve of their advice higher.

Even so, three exits were yesterday given as certain. These are the judges and Baltazar Gonçalves Manuel Pinto, respectively in charge of the Central Directorate of Research on Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and the second figure of the National Directorate; well as Manuel Ferreira, chief financial and only framework that was filled by someone strange or the Judicial whether the courts.

The output of Alípio Ribeiro became - if inevitable during the day yesterday, after admitting that the "Economic Daily" that the PJ should move to the jurisdiction of the Interior. There remains the alternative Alberto Costa, a friend of long standing, if not accept his resignation and consequent wear. The Attorney-General returns to the judiciary and, with a police ahead of PJ, you can follow the steps other judges.

The government can thus make the 'mend fences' with the foundations of PJ to accept a solution that was long advocated: appoint someone who knows the police work and has sensitivity to the difficulties that day-to-day faces the police.

Pesaram also on the characteristics of decision Almeida Rodrigues. From easy treatment and experienced directive, the Minister Alberto Costa believes that it will resume dialogue and make it more operational police who lives much of commitment and dedication of staff and is beginning to show weaknesses in obtaining results.

PROFILE

Reserved but with an ability to work above average. Thus is defined Almeida Rodrigues, the man who for 49 years comes to the Head of the Judicial Police.

A born communicator and someone who in many moments are consciously departed from the stage lights. Almeida Rodrigues knew wait for his time and left a place of leadership in the National Directorate of PJ in 2005, replacing the office of the Deputy Director of Coimbra, where he was in the family. In terms of curriculum is certainly one of the most qualified staff of the institution. Already headed the department of Aveiro, was deputy national director in the National, took up the post of Deputy Director of the Directorate of Coimbra.

His recent work on the ground, one stands out with ease. In prison, Antonio Costa, the Cape of GNR accused of killing three young people in Santa Comba Dão, Almeida Rodrigues got involved, personally. Out of office and comPedro do Carmo palmilharam the roads. On the day of arrest had very little, but Almeida Rodrigues bet everything. It showed that the GNR which launched the bodies, recovered the remains of the last couple. There, rested relieved. Antonio Costa was sentenced to 25 years in jail.

MADDIE AND CRIMES OF PORT TRAMAM ALÍPIO

They were friends of the times of the Faculty of Law of Lisbon, for over 30 years, and militaram together in the Portuguese Communist Party. In April 2006, the Justice Minister Alberto Costa oversaw its first crisis in the Judiciary, with the resignation of Judge adviser Santos Cabral director of national - and the time came to challenge the judge and friend Alípio Ribeiro to the office, when office of attorney general district of Porto.

Santos Cabral rising by stifling economic and consequent lack of resources that was voted the PJ, with the solidarity of most elements of its direction - not the days of easy adivinhavam Alípio Ribeiro. Two years after the prosecutor does not fall by economic difficulties, despite the constant war by lack of means and no payment of extraordinary work, but by two suggestions: the PJ's transit authority for Justice (and friend Alberto Costa) to the Interior; and create - if a Ministry of Interior to join all the policemen.

To back, a month of February with the two controversies that almost toppled: first to say that the constitution of the couple accused McCann was' hasty '; later to manage the crisis of the PJ of Porto. He tried to appoint Almeida Pereira director and was stopped by the minister. Ended up taking possession of the office Baptist Romão.

A PICTURE NOT REUNIA CONSENSOS

The output of Alípio Ribeiro seemed inevitable. The magistrate did not meet consensus internally and was accused of lack of solidarity with the institution that ran. Continuava to create divisions, such as when José Brás decided to remove the Central Directorate of Research on Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, leaving in the air the idea that the PJ had less correct behaviour. The resignation of Gonçalo Amaral and the criticism of the actions of the police who ran were also not well received in the institution, as was not seen with good eyes the way managed the crisis in PJ of Porto: Vitor forced the resignation of Guimaraes not to buy a war with the dome of the Ministry offices.

'The PJ WANT FOR ANTIGAMENTE', Carlos Anjos, Association of Staff of Criminal Investigation

'We were surprised but we applaud the decision, after 60 years, is breaking the tradition of a magistrate ahead of PJ and choose a police career,' says to 'CM' Carlos Anjos, president of the Association of Staff Research Criminal. 'We support it at all, so that the PJ return to the old way', but warns: 'No means - and resolved the issue of extraordinary work - no national director who resists ...' l

NOTES

FAILURE OF A COMMON STRATEGY

In the two years that was ahead of PJ, Alípio not met with the deputy national directors. Acusavam it in a lack of strategy.

ESPECUALÇÃO WITH M.Ş JOSEPH MORGADO

During the day yesterday still speculated on names such as the prosecutor Maria Jose Morgado or Luis Neves, national deputy director, to head the Judiciary.

PGR EVITOU THAT FOSSE DEMITIDO

Pinto Monteiro desva-lorizou of AlípioRibeiro the interview when he said it was pre-cipitada accused of setting up McCann. Just why was not dismissed.

EXIT BY CANSAÇO

Alípio Ribeiro did not want to record statements yesterday at the outlet of the Ministry of Justice but confirmed to Radio Renaissance his resignation, for fatigue.

SPEAKING AND NOT SPEAK

The magistrate said to be RR and tired of media attention given to the Director of PJ, constantly accused by talking and not talking.

TINEA OTHER PHILOSOPHY

Alípio Ribeiro 'had a position on the philosophy of criminal investigation other than that of the government', says PSD

RESULTS WITH ONLY MEANS

Resignation was' inevitable ', says the CDS, and requires' means' the government to submit the new direction' more results'

SERIOUS CRISIS CONTINUES

PCP says the Executive socialist 'can not escape the responsibilities' of' serious crisis which remains in Judiciary '

A POLICE FINALLY

The PS 'welcomes' by the choice of the Government's national director for PJ lie with Almeida Rodrigues,' a policeman '

I tried to blow the picture up but wasn't able to do it.

Maybe the friend means she is dead because she is not there in that picture on 3 May, only a prior image of her was put there 3 weeks later by her father.

Hi all.

I don't know how this happens but I lost an email to Hope last night and i just lost a post as well. It just went 'poof' and was gone. A bit like the 'woosh clunk' of the DE days. I have a laptop and use my mouse. All I can think of is it is somthing to do with the mouse pad that I must accidently touch and then everything goes. I tried the back button, but still not there. Arrgghh!

Anyway, basically said thanks to Hope for her post and that I sent her mail. Agree that it is intrigueing that not very nice people think they can judge who is not nice, lol!

Claudia, hope the new stuff is great and that I wish I could order some of that for my soon-to-be 40 yr old face!

Also there has been some interesting posts on the back of SM's departure as to why we are all still here.

I think it is because:

1)2 parents who are clever and in highly respected jobs that we would ususally look up to as role models, left their children.
As a result, they lost a daughter ( the details of which are unknown) by one certainty, that they persistently left them alone, scared, crying and in an unfamiliar place.

2)within the blink of an eyelid, they packaged her and slapped her on tv screens and tabloids across the world, supposedly to find her. (this part may or may not be true)

3)They made more than a million in funds.

4)they blamed everyone but themselves and only made a passing reference as to having left them as culpability (an afterthought)

5)they sued the DE for £500,000

6)they threatened suing the PJ and various others

7)they lied, refused to take a polygraph, refused to answer questions, refused to appear for a reconstruction & refused just about anything that wasn't on their terms, in a very petulent way IMO.

I am therefore here because:

a) this sends out the wrong message to the public

b)this tells people that there is money to be made from tragedy when the only tragedy is that their little girl is gone

c)this tells the public that class wars still very much exist. You can be a complete child neglector but class will give you immunity, and/or occupation

d)this tells people that if you are lucky enough to be in this class/occupation you can expect to rise above almost anything and put almost anybody down in the process. Including honest policework that have been trying to help but, oh dear, seem to have found the 'wrong' evidence.

This is so, so wrong. Viv, Nancy and Leigh have all said, so rightly, that we are here because this has to stop. People need to be told and made aware that you just cannot leave your children alone. There are no excuses. Zero tolerance. If this message gets through then another child might just be spared and even if it is only one, that is enough. Lesser minded people are very susceptible to respected people's behaviour. Look at all of the rehab stuff being sooo glamorous today. It has been said that impressionable souls could be lulled into thinking that the end is a rosy few days in a luxury health farm.

This is the danger that the McCanns have manufactured. Viv mentioned Karen Matthews. The proof is in the pudding and it seems it is already happening.

I really hope Madeleine is found alive. I haven't lost sight of that but no matter how doubtful that is, there is still very much a battle to be fought on behalf of potential missing little ones. We need to carry on fighting to be heard so that everybody knows that this parenting is completely unacceptable and with potentially catastrophic consequences.

Sorry for long post. As I haven't posted in a while, maybe I have saved this space?! ;)

Hiya Dillie

That was a great post and I am glad you reserved your space for that one. As you say if we only influence one set of parents then we will have done a fantastic job. What is one little child worth? It has absolutely nothing to do with money or status. If we also influence parents and policy makers about that , we have done a great job. It is about childrens rights to grow up as happy secure adults. It is about loving and protecting children just because they are so lovable and they need protecting and hoping others may start to think so too. There is nothing complicated about that. Trying to understand parents like Kate and Gerry McCann is where it gets decidely complicated.
