Sky News: Madeleine Team Hope To See Files

8:11am UK, Friday July 25, 2008

Lawyers acting for the parents of Madeleine McCann expect to be granted access to police files later today.

On Monday, police in Portugal decided to close the case into the disappearance of four-year-old Madeleine, who went missing in Praia da Luz in May 2007.
Kate and Gerry McCann were formally cleared of involvement in Madeleine's disappearance when prosecutors lifted their status as "arguidos", or formal suspects.
Madeleine vanished from her family's holiday apartment in the Algarve resort as her parents dined with friends nearby.
Despite a huge police investigation and massive coverage in the Portuguese and British media she has not been found.
The McCanns' spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said the couple's lawyers in Portugal had applied formally for access to the complete police file and they would "be analysing everything in it in their own time without making elements public at this stage".
The McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, are hoping that the files will provide fresh leads in their own private investigation.
The dossier is thought to stretch to 13 volumes.
Mr Mitchell said: "It's going to be a long, slow process, both for the lawyers in examining the volumes and for Kate and Gerry to be informed of their contents and whether there's any need for legal redress.
"The priority has always been finding Madeleine so the investigative work is first and foremost.
"If there are any leads from the files, for instance new sightings, that's what the private investigators will focus on in the first instance."

Your report is wrong. They were not formally cleared. \n\nDid anyone watch 'Send In The Dogs' on Tuesday? Very interesting.\n\n Posted By :spaceman

Let us no forget that now even bloggers and cibernauts are threatned to be sued because they have DISCUSSED the book by Mr Amaral. People, like mysekf, who have read the book and summarised it in English on their blogs, are being threatned by people who defend the McCanns. Is it a crime in the UK to read a book and summarise it for people in a foreign language? Posted By :Claudia

I have seen nothing but self and profit serving motive coming from this couple.\nThose who defend their pain and say they have suffered enough, when days after their precious baby girls disappearance they are jogging and traveling. Leaving their precious twins with friends.\nI can imagine nothing more shocking than losing a child. I think had that happened to me I would have glued myself to my other children in a total way. Kate and Gerry I don't want to hear about your pain anymore. As it becomes clearer what happened to your child and your reluctance to help this police force find her, i feel nothing but contempt and loathing for you. In the begining you had my prayers, but they have recoiled and now my prayers are for truth and justice. Posted By :susana

Why can't we have proper journalism in this country?\nThe Mccanns have not been "cleared" - the Portugese prosecutors have simply decided there is insufficient proof for a Portugese court at this time. The DNA evidence is sufficient to be presented in evidence in the UK, but doesn't satisfy the more stringent requirements of Portugese law. \nHow would anyone who relied on the UK media for their infomation know this simple fact?
Posted By :Archie

I really think the police in England and Portugal need to investigate the serious accusations that have surfaced about the McCann's friend David Payne and Gerry McCann himself. I think the answer to solving this case lies with the McCann and friends' circle who were there in Portugal on the night that Madeleine "disappeared", I cannot say "abducted" as there is absolutely NO evidence of an abduction but plenty of evidence of death in that apartment, the Mcs know exactly where Madeleine's body is, In My Opinion
Posted By :GC

There is NO need for the McCanns to have a PI team. They had the police forces of Portugal and UK. They had specialists all supplied by the tax payer. Best thing McCanns can do is pass THEIR PI files over to PJ (in their entirity) and see what has ACTUALLY been done by them!\nFSS results U turn? /Eddie & Keela doubted!/ rotten meat/spilt fish/dirty nappies in the car tyre well?? PLEASE !!!\nFailure to do a reconstruction...a swarm of top celebs and financial backers..a missing sports bag?...oh yes WHAT else is missing: THE TRUTH about their daughter Madeleine's disappearance.\nA total cover up I suspect: what on earth were they doing leaving 2 year olds and a 3 year old alone and allegedly on many occassions?\nWe all parent differently?...THANK GOD yes I do very differently!
Posted By :Amber

I was saddened to read that the McCanns left poor Madeleine crying for over an hour 2 nights before she disappeared. Yet they still went out every night to enjoy themselves.\n\nI am quite amazed that this has been dropped even though:\n\nA couple gave a disturbing police statement about David Payne regarding a previous group holiday \n\nBritish sniffer dogs (who have never given a false positive) found blood and death odours behind a settee and on Kates clothes\n\nThe dubious activites of their investigators -They specialise in debt collecting and do not usually look for missing children...I'd like to know where the fund money goes every month??\n\nNot to mention the fact they hired a top extradition lawyer as soon as they got back to England. Why do that if you are innocent???\n\n
Posted By: Paula

I too would like to see the press publish the details of the accusations against Payne. They shouldnt be afraid to print this as it was an 8 page statement given to Leicestershire Police. But im sure good old Clarence will instead call them outrageous and hurtful lies\n\nGood on Amaral for publishing his book. He's not cashing in on the poor child at al l -it's the only way the world will find out what really went on in the investigation.

FROM THE SUN:
'The McCanns plan to take action against Amaral, Portuguese newspapers which reprinted parts of the £10 book and bloggers who discussed it.'

OMG! I don't believe it. This is 2008, a British newspaper printing the above, are we now living in a
totalitarian mind control state!
How is this looking for the missing child? Ludicrous, imo.

Good Morning All

Zodiac

Clarence has hedged at bit and now say 'if the Lawyers think it necessary' or words to that effect.

Mr Amaral is looking forward to coing to a Court so he can discuss his book with them 'line by line'.

It is claimed a million plus bloggers are waiting to bring the court system to a halt.

Zodiac said...

ICTOAN,

I cannot believe that those words have been printed in a UK newspaper. IMO a Media Monitoring Unit and PR are really quite questionable. Thank goodness the public are not as thick as some would like to think. Surely those words that have been printed are a direct threat to the General Public and should not be condoned by the Press/Media. Since when is having an opinion, the right to Freedom of Speech and reading books been a crime in the UK. It is disrespectful to the people who lost their lives defending their countries to allow us to have these rights. The sooner this lot have their Press/Media privileges taken away the better. I want proper journalism not pink spin.

According to Harriet on 3A. PT TV has reported that Murat is to sue certain friends of the McCanns.

Zodiac said...

Dylan,

Where are you? Please leave us a message to let us know you are OK.
Love Zodiac x.

Zodiac said...

ICOTAN,

I wonder if they will settle out of Court?

ICantThinkOfAName said...

Zodiac I don't know if the Sun has a comments facility but if they do perhaps they are hoping to provoke the sort of response that Sky did yesterday. Have you had time to read all those 3A posters who were published on Sky?

ICantThinkOfAName said...

If you mean the Tapas 7, perhaps Murat would like another confrontation. This time in court.

ICantThinkOfAName said...

Zodiac

I left a message for dlay yesterday as did Di but so far no response. I hope she is OK.

Zodiac said...

ICTOAN,

I saw the messages yourself and Di left for Dylan. I hope she is OK, this must be a very distressing time for her.

I read the link ecolab left (thanks eco) for Sky News, I was surprised they allowed them through and that they are still there.

Yes would that not be ironic Robert Murat having another confrontation with them, in Court.

Did you see the BBC2 Drama Burn Up? I think that was the name of the prog.

ICantThinkOfAName said...

I did see Burn Up and thought that much of the 'Politics' (capital AND small P) had a basis in fact.

Hello all,

Sorry I haven't been around to post and have you all worried. It's been a bit of a tough few days but I've now spoken to Ryan who says that he wouldn't want a permanent move as most of his family are here. I don't yet know what Laura thinks but I'm hoping to speak to her soon.I tried toget hold of my solicitor but he's always in a meeting and hasn't yet rung back. I will wait now until I have spoken to both of the children properly.

Apart from all this I am ok bar a cold. I did some work yesterday and I've not too much left to do now.

Thank you all for your concern :)

How will the McCanns take us all to court I wonder? This country is going down the pan....

Dyl, good to hear from you, you wee on my mind, im sure things will work out for you and the children. Hello Dylan/all

Glad to know you are OK - and that things are looking a little brighter now. Everyone was worried about you!

There has been so much to read over the past few days - it's certainly hotting up in more ways than one and I do hope that Murat will follow through with his idea of suing the Tapas lot.

The groundswell of opinion also seems to be turning more and more against the McCanns - which is all to the good. Perhaps some journalists will take the opportunities open to them now to dig much deeper in this case.

As for bloggers not being entitled to an opinion - well, that is ludicrous!

I live in Gibraltar and passed a tribute to Madeleine here the other day outside the Cathedral. It was put there in May, on the anniversary of her disappearance, and is looking a bit windswept and dusty now, but Madeleine is certainly being remembered in every corner of the world.

Nice to hear from you again. I seem to remember that you were initially nervous of posting but I am glad to see that you've overcome that.

I didn't realise where you live and I'm glad that there is another corner of the world where someone is doing their bit for the cause. Was your tribute a floral one?

Hello to all,
It looks like everything is going pear shaped for McCanns lets hope those who are blind to it see the light.

Detectives McCann are suspected of attempted homicide .

(Update) The private detectives serving McCann, belonging to the agency Catalan Metodo 3, are suspected of extortion and attempted homicide during their work for the British couple. McCann The case is under investigation, Department of Criminal Investigation (DIC) of the Judicial Police (PJ) of Faro (Algarve), which is also investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann
The information was confirmed this morning by the Portuguese daily "Correio da Manhã" which reveals that the Spanish detectives have paid a former detainee to communicate their alleged information he allegedly obtained in prison with João Cipriano, uncle Joana and assassin. The man, after receiving money from the hands of detectives, was unable to provide any information and was, according to him, the victim of an attempted homicide. This is not the first time that Metodo 3 is questioned for his methods: Antonio Jimenez, a private detectives serving McCann, was arrested for involvement in the theft of 400 kg of cocaine in the port of Barcelona.Information, an exclusive SMM, was confirmed by the Court of First Instance of Martorell (Barcelona), which dictated the preventive prison, without recourse, Antonio Jimenez, accused of malfeasance, corruption, corruption of public officials and association Criminal illegal.
Serving Metodo 3 since 2005, the detective was in charge of "special operations" as part of the service work performed by Kate and Gerry McCann.According to a source of the SureteMoroccan, he has paid witnesses in Morocco and arranged interviews of these witnesses with some British journalists.

Stonemaid said...

Hi ICTOAN

Yes, it was, but was naturally removed soon afterwards when all the flowers died. However, the messages to Madeleine and the yellow ribbons are still there as a reminder that Madeleine is still in the thoughts of people locally, as well as most of the rest of the world!

It certainly does look as though the McCs are being closed in on and I think journalists of all nationalities are probably digging deeper and deeper as we speak!

Good Evening All,

Investigative journalism is still alive and well in Britain – or alive anyway. I’ve just read an article on the damages awarded to Max Mosley after his court victory against the News of the World. This detailed investigation of Mosley by News of the World journalists was as far as I can see for salacious tittle tattle for the papers readers. It’s a great pity they couldn’t have directed their attentions to looking for justice for a missing little English girl. Or is it politically incorrect to look deeper into the saintly McCanns’ activities?

ICantThinkOfAName said...

Hi Wizard

The Independent today is creeping toward the right direction.

And I still can't believe Sky allowed all those "anti" posting on their web site.

ICOTAN,

I did not get a chance to see Docmac's vid. I have been away with my husband and daughter and only peeped in here on my hubby's laptop when he was away swimming with our daughter. I am home now do you have the link or maybe Docmac could post it again. The Barbary Apes I mention are wonderful to watch. We saw them care for their little ones it was awe-inspiring. They are very protective. They are also very quick, an older male Ape grabbed a ladies bag, emptied it out jumped on a wall with her bag of sweets and sat there unwrapping toffees and eating them! My daughter and I fed them nuts, I did feel quite nervous but when it took the nuts from my hand it's touch was very gentle and had a soothing gaze, I think it knew I could possibly kak meself and I was only putting on a brave face for my daughter.

Hi all

Sorry cannot stop for long, friends round shortly.

Ecolab..Well done being able to start a new thread. I would not know where to start you will have to give us leasons.

Dyl.. So glad you are ok we have all been very concerned about you. Take care.

I don't normally buy papers but got the D Mail today, and was shocked by the one sided reporting in favour of the McCanns by Richard Pendlebury regarding the book.

The, we cannot go into the allegations he makes against the McCanns, as they have indicated they will take legal action if the charges are repeated.

I'm sorry, what rights have the McCann's got to make these threats and hold our whole country to ransom, because that is what they are doing. We have lost our freedom of speach, the tabloids are petrified and only prints what the pink one tells them to.

Just what is going on?

Well done to Amanda Platell for speaking out and saying" Is this the best way to help Maddie"?

She was referring to the McCann's sueing everyone that moves.

Just how does this find Madeleine, it does not, are they looking for her IMO.. NO!!!

Hi Zodiac - yes those apes really know how to take care of their babies, that's for sure. You were lucky with the one you fed because they can really turn nasty on humans if they are in the wrong sort of mood!! However, they are well used to tourists and know that they are on to a good thing with them.....!!

Di - let's all hope for something positive soon. I still don't understand why the press are running scared of printing anything anti McCann though. There is so much out there now, in print, that you'd think they would just go for it.....as my OH keeps saying - there's something not right with this case!!

Hi folks.

I've had problems today trying to get the comment window open & so I abandoned it in the end.

Thank you all again for your concern. It's so nice and such a comfort to receive this kindness which is coming from people I have never met! x

I watched the BBC video and I cannot believe just how much fawning it contained. The McCanns are completely innocent .... no they are not!!! They haven't even been cleared, just that there isn't enough evidence etc., etc. Why has our media sunk to such a state? If the McCanns want to sue for being misrepresented as 'guilty', why in the hell is our press and news decalring them innocent? This has not been judged in a court of law and it makes me angry to think that the media thinks we are that stupid!

IMO, our less than stupid society will not fall for this tripe and the gruesome twosome will get ther just desserts. I just hope I'm right - the tide of public opinion has long since turned!

Hi all

I expect everyone is looking at Claudia's blog since it is buzzing with information!

If anyone has missed this on her blog:

"2 - Do all British citizens abroad have immediate phone contact with the Prime Minister? Do diplomatic channels work like this with all British citizens abroad? Does the Ambassador personally visit all British citizens abroad in need? Do all British citizens abroad have the support of a former prime Minister and his wife as well as a spokesperson who used to work for the Government?"

Let me just say - OH is a retired ambassador and I can assure you that all matters relating to nationals abroad were always dealt with by the consular staff - for an ambassador to be involved 'at the coal face', this can only happen with Ministerial direction.

As many have commented - just WHY were they given this kind of VIP treatment normally reserved for VIPs??

Is GM a VIP?? He must be, or else they would not have been given the kid glove treatment!!!!!!!!!!!

But by what definition is he a VIP????
