MARTIN SMITH ASKED "IS SHE ASLEEP" ??

Hi all,

As further reports emerge concerning the Irish witness Martin Smith and his family who saw a man matching Gerry McCann on 3 May I thought it would be helpful to post this very interesting article I found posted by Paulo Reis from Sol on 5 August, last year.

As you will know, it has always been my belief that Gerry McCann carried Madeleine off that night and realising he had been spotted got Jane Tanner to make up the sighting where she gave a description matching Gerry, initially saying he was Northern European and had short dark hair but then when Gran Cooper came up with her e-fit stating, well actually, yes he was just like that..he has morphed into the distinctly swarthy man with long hair and frightening teeth. I have read that thanks to Gran Cooper the PJ were forced to investigate this and wasted a huge amount of time and resources upon it. It really is heartbreaking that the McCanns and their team have quite deliberately given them so much wasted work which was clearly never going to find Madeleine.

When reading through this however what really upset me is the thought of just why would Jane Tanner state that the man was carrying the child in what she confessed on Panorama was a very odd way limply in open arms across the body..this is how you would carry a dead child, because if you held the child up against your body in the normal way the head would flop down. As will be seen in this report Martin Smith even said to this man, is she asleep, but the man put his head down and ignored him. Hardly friendly holiday behaviour!

Also, I had not previously realised that the GNR had deployed their own dog for several hours in the McCann apartment just before the arrival of the British dogs and this dog also marked Madeleine's death in that apartment and the British dogs confirmed this. Not long back I reported that this dog had passed out as a fully trained dog (I am assuming it is the same one judging by the description of it). We now have it confirmed that death was marked in the McCanns bedroom, behind the sofa in the living room and in the flower bed. As will be seen here, back in August 2007 it was realised the body had been moved in the apartment. I suppose the question is where did she die? It would seem to me to be in the McCann's bedroom and then perhaps moved to just behind the sofa near the patio door for removal. Gerry has even remarked how quiet it was normally and he you would not expect to bump into anyone, but unfortunately for him he bumped into Wilkins and I believe he also bumped into Martin Smith and his family. The fact that there are other members of Mr Smith's family who have given evidence will corroborate his evidence and make it much more powerful. If Madeleine was carried openly like this by Gerry then it would seem she did not have serious and visible injuries which again would seem to point to over-sedation. I recall there were early reports of a syringe being found in the McCann's bedroom but do not know whether that is accurate. When taken with the fact that two nights before Madeleine was reported crying by Mrs Fenn and her young visitor and the night before Kate even admits Madeleine and Sean were crying, the fact that they went and left them again can only lead to one conclusion IMO. They made sure none of the children would interrupt their fun again, fatally for Madeleine. It is simply heartbreaking and I am appalled at what a wicked liar Jane Tanner is, she can sue me if she wants, it will not stop me saying it!!

This report also confirms the factual basis for the claims made by Portuguese detectives that little Madeleine was dumped at sea. Such wickedness is very hard to comprehend. That little Madeleine could not even have a decent burial, she was just dumped. Truly terrible. For Leicester Police to go and interview Martin Smith and family and for them to then fly out to Portugal it says it all really as to how seriously they viewed his evidence and he has no reason to lie about such a serious matter. They have his evidence and I feel this talk of the PJ failing to re-interview him as though it was somehow fatal to their investigation is just pure propaganda!

The investigations have returned to their initial course.
Portuguese and British police search for the body of the child in the surroundings of Praia da Luz.
By Felícia Cabrita (felícia.cabrita@sol.pt) and Margarida Davim (magarida.davim@sol.pt)Weekly "Sol" (Original version, in Portuguese)Translated by: Mark
“There are strong signs” that Madeleine, the English child that disappeared from Praia da Luz almost one hundred days ago, “is dead”, police sources have told Sol. The 180º turnaround that the investigation by the Policia Judiciaria (PJ) from Portimao seems to have done in the past few days, even led the Attorney General, Pinto Monteiro, to postpone the making of an interview that had been requested by British media chain BBC – an interview that would be focusing on the fact that, so long after Maddie’s disappearance, the authorities still remain without real clues concerning her whereabouts.Although an official source from the PGR justified the postponing of the interview with “agenda issues”, the moves by the PJ and some elements from the British police during these last days – accompanied by two dogs, in Praia da Luz – seem to indicate that the investigation is now centred on the McCann family and their group of friends. Sol could find out that the English dogs are trained for different tasks. One, to detect human remains originating from dead flesh, and the other one to detect human blood or fluids. A specialist that was contacted by Sol explains that the technique of these animals rests on scientific bases, and that while “one of the dogs can distinguish between natural death or death by accident that does not involve bloodshed, the other one can diagnose whether someone died a violent death, with bloodshed or other spilled fluids”.Tuesday night, a black and white cocker spaniel that is trained to detect death, spent several hours in the apartment that the McCann family occupied in the Ocean Club resort, and from where Maddie disappeared on May 3. According to sources within the investigation, the dog marked the death of the child inside the apartment. On the dogs’ trailThe English dogs do not contradict the clues that were detected by the sniffer dog that GNR sent to the location, on the day following the English girl’s disappearance. It’s an animal that only follows odours, and that “detected the movement of the child from the room to another point inside the apartment”, according to a source with the Guarda. The same source said that “based on that signal, it was not possible to conclude whether the child was alive or dead – because a sniffer dog will smell both the living and the dead”. Yet, outside the house, both through the windows that faced the Tapas restaurant – where the McCanns had dinner with their seven friends – and through the main door, “the dog lost the trail, as if the child had exited, for example, rolled up in a blanket”, that source said. A team from Sol, on the terrain for the last two weeks, could observe the work of the cocker spaniel from the British police, performing several diligences along the water in Praia da Luz and in a nearby valley. The animal’s path, on Wednesday night, seemed to test the deposition from several witnesses that were heard by the PJ in late May – namely an Irish family that have been living in Luz, and who, on the day that Maddie vanished, reportedly crossed ways with a man that carried a child that seemed to be asleep. According to their deposition to PJ, Martin Smith, his wife and his children, after leaving the Kelly bar, which is located approximately 400 metres from the Ocean Club, around 9.50 / 10.00 pm, saw an individual described as Caucasian, measuring 1.70 – 1.75 m, walking towards the beach. The Irish man told Sol that he knew Robert Murat (the only arguido in the process) visually for years – and also remembered seeing the Anglo-Portuguese man in a bar that evening, “already a bit intoxicated”. Therefore, the Irish dismissed the possibility that the person he saw carrying a child could be Murat: “If it was him, I guarantee to you that I would have recognized him”.Concerning the clothes the man he saw on that night was wearing, Smith only refers the “beige trousers”, given the fact that his upper body was hidden by the child’s body, which was not covered. It is curious that one of the elements that formed the group of Maddie’s parents’ friends, guaranteed to PJ several days before Smith was heard, that - at a moment when she left the table to check on the group’s children - she had crossed ways with a man that was wearing trousers that fit the description that was also made by the Irish man. That individual was also carrying a sleeping child. And the witness, who even managed to see what pyjamas the child was wearing, just “thought it was strange that the child was barefoot and uncovered”. This witness said it would be 9.15 pm.Direct access to the PMAccording to the course the PJ from Portimao is now conducting the investigation, and considering the trail that the British police’s cocker spaniel tracked along the sea shore, the individual would have descended to Praia da Luz, where he could have disposed of Maddie’s body. Sol knows that the English team contacted João Alveirinho Dias, a professor at the University of Algarve and a specialist in oceanography, in order to collect information about the sea’s dynamics and the beach area where everything may have happened. The investigator, who was not briefed about the context of the police inquiries, told “Sol" that he was consulted on “the sand movements, where they come from and where they go to”. The police investigation has therefore, and according to our sources, returned to its initial course, and it becomes increasingly clear, as Sol had reported previously, that there is no proof against Murat.Yet, the British media continue to point a finger at the Anglo-Portuguese man, although the criminal investigation has returned to clues that relate to the group of friends of Madeleine’s parents. A journalist with the Daily Express – who has repeatedly contacted Sol searching for new information on this case – recognized this week that it is “difficult for an English newspaper to adopt a critical tone concerning Madeleine’s parents”. The Daily Express cited, in one of its last reports, the news that have been published by Sol, describing them as a “hate campaign” against the McCanns. The same journalist ended up confessing that “it’s the only way we can transmit your data”. Sol knows that Gerry McCann has regular contact with Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister. Clarence Mitchell – who was the first spokesman for the McCanns and is now in the press cabinet at Nº 10, Downing Street – confirms those contacts. “I know there is a communication line between Gerry and Gordon Brown. I know they talk. But I don’t know what they talk about, because those are informal conversations”, he clarified, further adding: “The Madeleine case is treated whenever there are bilateral meetings between Portugal and the United Kingdom. Gordon Brown is sensitive to the case and wants it solved quickly”.Translated by: Mark 04.08.2007

I was also very interested to read the comments about The Daily Express reporter who it seems to me was actually anti-McCann and claimed that it was so difficult to put things in UK papers he had to put the information across in a negative way!

I also recall seeing a video with a DE reporter who gave me the distinct impression he was not Pro-McCann and of course the repeated interviews Clarence was giving where his hatred of the Daily Express was not even thinly disguised.

By the way, I applaud the European Parliament for having the decency to fail to accept Kate and Gerry's request for a Europe wide Amber Alert system. It would not have worked like it does inter-state in US anyway as one of our regular posters explained! But to have backed the McCanns in this way would have sent a very bad message, and I am so pleased they are not seen to be supporting these two!

Hi, Viv.
To be honest, i don't know if the Amber Alert system is the best solution or not. However, the simple fact that the McCanns were backing it, made it a joke. It could be the best system in the world but with such supporters, it could not work. It's the same has having a suspected child sexual abuser campaigning against paedophilia. Or a suspected wife beater campaigning against domestic violence. Ridiculous.
Sleep tight, querida Viv.

Hi Viv

I strongly agree with most of what you said in the post. My one bone of contention is that I can't fathom how you could even think about Jane Tanner having any ambitions in the suing department. That's a non-starter for a liar.

Goodnight x.

It certainly put a spoke in Gerry's political ambitions wheel, that's for sure.

Hi Viv and all,

Thanks for the new article.

What I miss in the media is that the McCanns lost 2 cases.

1. They wanted the whole access of the police files, but they only got 81.

2. The Ambert Alert.

MCCANNS' OPRAH WINDFALL
ABOVE: McCanns: To appear with Oprah
10th July 2008
By Jerry Lawton

MADELEINE McCann’s parents are planning a big bucks interview with US chatshow queen Oprah Winfrey to boost their search fund.

It is understood Oprah, 54, would be willing to break the bank for a cosy chat with Kate and Gerry.

Up to now the couple have resisted offers to appear on celebrity chatshows but they are considering Oprah after the fund set up to find Madeleine plunged to £500,000 – less than half the original amount donated by the public.

Along with private eyes’ bills, the cash has been spent on poster and advertising campaigns appealing for information about Madeleine and running an website.

The McCanns, who still haven’t been officially cleared, sparked controversy when they dipped into the fund twice last year to fund mortgage payments on their home in Rothley, Leics.

The couple’s spokes-man Clarence Mitchell has admitted the couple need to top it up to maintain the hunt for their five-year-old daughter.

Earlier this week police agreed to let the McCanns, both 40, see 81 witness statements taken after Madeleine vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

Hiya Claudia

Well, if the Europe wide alert did have any merit, then that is a real shame, but the seal of approval from Kate and Gerry McCann is like the kiss of death! I hope and actually believe, we can rely on (most) of those MEP's to do what is best for the children of Europe and that clearly would not include listening to Kate and Gerry McCann and their perverse views on childcare.

Doc

I am not seriously waiting for the Writ to arrive from Jane Tanner:-))) But one thing I have always prophesied, the Daily Express sit and wait, like a preying mantis, or even a coiled up cobra! They dealt the same blow to Archer as they have planned for the gruesome twosome, but will they be too late with books and serialisations about the gruesome twosome to cash in, maybe people will be McCanned out by the time they actually get to court, which I think could still be a long way off!

ROB

How lovely to hear from you again darling, how is it going on 3 As, I guess it keeps you pretty busy over there, but we are all on the same side, decency and justice, especially for innocent little children who do not get to choose their parents.

To a control freak who seriously gets off on feeling powerful, yes I agree Gerry did have high political aspirations but I think he was just too bent even for that job!

Hiya Atardi

Well as the Daily Express reporter said last August it is difficult to say anything against the McCanns in the UK press, but this is not the press and we know they lost, big time!

The greatest loss though is the fact that the Chief Constable of Leicester Police turned up at the High Court with a QC to oppose the McCanns wish to have the Portuguese/British file turned over to them. Now if they were just going to be declared innocent I hardly think he would have bothered!!!

Shame, shame, poor Kate and Gerry. Criminals as bad as these two deserve the tag for life!

When they are millions of living children, literally starving, how can the McCanns seriously justify continuing to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on an "investigation" that they admit, did not produce one single lead. How could it, what they want leads to is anyone who is going to give evidence against them, but they better watch their step there!

The South African Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (SACMEC) aspires to establish itself as a model organization in its efforts to raise funds in support of its mission to assist in the location and recovery of missing children and raise awareness about missing children and child sexual exploitation

Well I have to say Doc an organisation that works for all missing and exploited children has to be far better than one that spends hundreds of thousands on one child who the police insist is dead and to the exclusion of all other children. It is criminal!

Unknown said...

Hiya Doc

I just checked the meaning of the word supplicate because it seemed like the right word to me, but I am not sure Gerry heard of this one, and its meaning would go right over his head:

1. To ask for humbly or earnestly, as by praying.
2. To make a humble entreaty to; beseech.
v.intr.
To make a humble, earnest petition

He cannot truly align himself with such organisations because he has not just cause, so seeks to create his own, but I do not think he is really believing he is so rich, clever and powerful now. What does it take to cash in on a dead three year old, your own child, a man like him! What need can a man find for genuine organisations who support childrens' rights, none whatsoever!

I'll be going to my flat for a bit so won't be around for the next 2 weeks or so, but will try and look in from an internet cafe or something. I can't see much happening before August anyway, to be honest, so doubt I will miss much.

We are off to catch some sun and do stuff as a family which for me, anyway, is the whole point of a family holiday. No kids clubs and unlocked apartments here!

BTW Clarrie, I waited in for you all day yesterday. Obviously mine was not one of your preferred 81 doors for knocking on. I am most miffed. That's you and me finished, boy!!!

See anyone you 'know' in this report? It was of course written well before Maddie was killed, but it applies to her case too.

'Mourning sickness is a religion'

Britons are feeding their own egos by indulging in "recreational grief" for murdered children and dead celebrities they have never met, claims a report.
Think-tank Civitas said wearing charity ribbons, holding silences and joining protest marches all indicated the country was in emotional crisis.

The author said "mourning sickness" was a substitute for religion.

Rather than "piling up damp teddies and rotting flowers" people should go out and do some real good, he urged.

In his report, Conspicuous Compassion, author Patrick West said people were trying to feel better about themselves by taking part in "manufactured emotion".

Describing extravagant public displays of grief for strangers as 'grief-lite' Mr West said these activities were, "undertaken as an enjoyable event, much like going to a football match or the last night of the proms".

"Mourning sickness is a religion for the lonely crowd that no longer subscribes to orthodox churches. Its flowers and teddies are its rites, its collective minutes' silences its liturgy and mass.

"But these new bonds are phoney, ephemeral and cynical," he said.
"We saw this at its most ghoulish after the demise of Diana. In truth, mourners were not crying for her, but for themselves," he wrote.

Years later, he claimed, "Diana had served her purpose. The public had moved on. These recreational grievers were now emoting about Jill Dando, Linda McCartney or the Soham girls."

His 80-page pamphlet said that while the Soham murders were "unquestionably tragic", it was "almost as distressing to see sections of the public jumping on the grief bandwagon".

He said the traditional minute's silence has suffered "compassion inflation" and become meaningless.

"They are getting longer and we are having more of them, because we want to be seen to care."

"When a group called Hedgeline calls for a two-minute silence to remember all the 'victims' whose neighbours have grown towering hedges, we truly have reached the stage where this gesture has been emptied of meaning," he added.

Moving on to the wearing of charity ribbons, the report said the act served to "celebrate the culture of victimhood" and was an egotistical gesture to announce "I care".

The trend had not been accompanied by a tangible increase in charity donations, it added, and there was now an "unspoken competition" to see who could wear their Remembrance Day poppy earliest, "particularly among politicians".

And on going on demonstrations, the report said it was "too often an exercise in attention-seeking".

"Next time you profess that you "care" about something, consider your motives and the consequences of your words and actions. Sometimes, the only person you really care about is you," said the report.

Civitas, also known as the Institute for the Study of Civil Society, was launched in 2000 as an independent registered charity.

A post from Im Wondering on the 3A:

How many grieving people show up with flowers & cards & stuffed animals to mourn the tragic death of someone they've never met,

and yet fail to mend broken relationships within their own families & friends before it's too late?

How many Madeleine supporters spend countless days online, prophetizing & praying & making videos for a little girl they've never met,

and yet fail to spend that same time with their own children, grandchildren, or neices & nephews who deserve that attention?

FAKES.

I could not agree more, well said.

Cláudia said...

Doc, the huge majority of the pros, who blindly defend the McCanns, are people who treated/treat their own children and grandchildren with the same contempt the McCanns showed for their 3 toddlers. That is why they will never accept that madeleine, Sean and Amelie were neglected or that their neglect is a punishable crime. Acknowledging that would be saying that they themselves are/were neglecters, ie criminals.

Hi Everyone,
3A’s are reporting that Amber Alert has backing from 393 MEP’s and therefore goes forward as a resolution for consideration. So Amber Alert championed by the McCanns may as yet go through and be accepted as law by the EU.

Clarence will no doubt triumphantly announce this as a resounding success for the Mcs.

Yesterday it failed today it has not?

Hiya Doc,

Well did the wearing of green hair bands in her hair or those wrist bands or even flogging them to the public via paypal demonstrate to us that Kate and Gerry care about little Madeleine? Of course not and for me it has always seemed like they just want to make her the most famous child in the world because this is a good marketing ploy that generates cash to help them pay for their defence and more. Why should the world be flooded with the image of one missing child, who the police insist is dead. Because it seems to suit her parents, no other reason. We should remember what Gerry said, "well find the body and prove we killed her". A little odd to say that and then several months later to start protesting she may well be alive, the Americans told them so!

ROB

I hope you have a lovely break. If you are going to have a good break I guess it does not involve taking your laptop and then plugging your mobile in to it to get online! How or why did Gerry think he would need to do that and how convenient for the Portuguese /British Police who wanted to listen in. The Police love people who love technology!

EU govts failing to implement lost children hotlines

BRUSSELS (AFP) — EU nations are failing to do enough to protect missing children, the European Commission said on Thursday, accusing member states of dragging their feet on setting up hotlines.

Of the European Union's 27 member states, only Hungary has taken all the necessary action to implement the hotlines.

"Alarm bells should be ringing in the other 26 member states," said EU Telecommunications Commissioner Viviane Reding said.

"It is a pity that in many countries action doesn't seem to follow words when it comes to implementing numbers that can provide precious help to parents and children.

Six-digit numbers starting with 116 have been reserved across the EU for missing children hotlines and helplines which children can call.

However, a recent EU survey found that very few member states had implemented the numbers, and little effort had been made by governments to get the numbers known, as required by EU law.

"The commission has done its part of the job and hopes that it won't be necessary to start legal proceedings on a matter where there should be broad consensus," Reding said.

The commission's warning came after EU nations agreed on Tuesday to cooperate more closely in the hunt for lost children but could not endorse a Europe-wide alert system sought by the parents of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.

Germany argues that alerting all 27 nations as soon as a child disappears and launching a massive media campaign would be pointless as most are found in the area where they went missing quite quickly.

Hiya Atardi

It seems the 3 As clearly got it wrong! What the EU want to avoid is a massive media circus for every missing child throughout Europe, most of whom are missing because of their own parents. The thought of multiple McCannsters operating across Europe and vying to be the biggest news flooder/make the most money out of their own child is not an attractive prospect!

I think your posts illustrate so well just how utterly farcical so many of these sightings have been and you are right to especially pick on the one in the UK where two Portuguese people were viewing second hand garden furniture in England, with Madeleine! Either this man has dementia or Gerry paid him a lot of money but his credibility with the locals must be shot!

Wizard,

Wnated to say: "You mean this article?".

Hi Atadi,
I'm getting a bit confused with this. I copy below what is being reported on 3A.

McCanns welcome EU alert backing

Kate and Gerry McCann have welcomed European Parliament backing for an EU-wide missing child alert system to help prevent child abductions across borders.

The parents of Madeleine McCann described as "wonderful news" the fact that a declaration supporting the couple's plea for action has now attracted sufficient MEPs' signatures to become a formal resolution.

It now has backing from at least 393 MEPs - achieving the minimum required support of half the 785 European Parliament members before a resolution is considered for legislation. And although the resolution has no legal force it now puts serious political and moral pressure on the European Commission and EU governments to adopt legally-binding measures to increase the chances of finding missing children.

A joint statement issued by the McCanns said: "This is wonderful news and we would like to thank every single MEP who has signed the declaration. By supporting such a European wide structure (a network of national child alert systems), each and every one is helping to make Europe a safer place for children.

"Hopefully this will mean that far fewer families have to suffer the sort of pain we are continuing to go through. We now urge the Commission to act swiftly in taking this forward in practical terms"

The McCanns visited MEPs in Brussels in April as part of their campaign to mobilise action following the disappearance of Madeleine during a family holiday in Portugal more than a year ago.

By then they had already visited Washington to see how a US "Amber Alert" early warning raised the alarm across state lines and lead to the safe return of hundreds of children. They asked for a similar network to be extended across the 27 EU countries.

Conservative MEP and European Parliament Vice-President Edward McMillan-Scott, who helped organise the McCanns' visit to Brussels and another to Strasbourg last month to keep up support, formally presented the resolution to EU Justice Commissioner Jacques Barrot.

He said: "I am very pleased that a majority of MEPs have backed this important initiative, started by Kate and Gerry McCann out of their personal tragedy. Now it has real impetus across the EU. Four hundred children have been saved in the USA in five years by this system."

Two years ago - before Madeleine disappeared - a similar initiative in the European Parliament failed to attract sufficient support to be taken up by ministers. But the publicity surrounding the case means the current French EU presidency is now likely to give the issue a big push in the next few months.

Hiya Wizard

This appears to be Kate and Gerry's press statement where they interpret rejection of a Europe wide Amber Alert system as "wonderful news". I would add I just tried to go to it and it says no longer available. I think it is best to stick to more accurate reports i.e. the McCanns did not get the majority vote they needed, rather than the version prepared by Clarence:-)))

Wizard said...

Atardi, I think you are right this is a similar ploy to the recent court case where Clarence announced the 81 pieces of information released by the Leicestershire police was something of a success for the McCanns. In fact all they got was what their solicitors already should have kept a copy of.

In this instances they didn't get al the support they needed and the rest in pro McCann spin to give the elusion of another success.

Read the second paragraph of these guidelines.

An Amber alert would never have been issued for Madeleine. That's why I never could understand Gerry's fascination with it. IMO it's part of their carefully planned diversion tactics.

EU ministers reject “Madeleine Alert”
The set up of an European Amber Alert System was rejected, yesterday, by EU Justice Minister, during an informal meeting, in Cannes, France. "We shouldn't send out a European alert when a child has been gone for just a few hours," German Justice Minister told the Media. "The great majority of children return home after two or three days." However, the EU Justice Ministers agreed on the necessity of a closer cooperation between police forces and alert systems already used in EU countries.

For the MailOnline, “Brussels throws out McCann's appeal for European missing child alert system,” in this meeting. The announcement “was welcomed” by Kate and Gerry, who have been campaigning for an EU alert system to be adopted by all 27 countries: "This announcement is very encouraging as it underlines the fact that there is a Europe-wide desire for things to improve,” Mr. Clarence Mitchell, the family spokesman, told the MailOnline.

French Justice Minister Rachida Dati “urged her counterparts to adopt the system Paris uses, which she said has worked six times in six tries. When it comes to protecting children in Europe no resource should be spared," she said. "We absolutely must bring together everything that we have."

A "written declaration" to the European Parliament, signed by a group of EU Mps and backed by the McCann managed to collect, until today - the last day - 351 signatures, but it needed 393 in order sent it to the European Parliament to be voted, not to be automatically adopted, as the MailOnline wrote

Hiya Wizard

We should never forget that Clarence is an ex government spin doctor and in their own words that job entails "burying bad news". Yesterday it was announced the McCanns lost, today he announces they did not! I know which version I believe, as you say he even tried to suggest getting the 81 pieces of information they originally gave to the police and not being allowed to see the other 11,000 was a victory. It does not get much more perverse than that. It would not be Clarence's job to admit that was a crushing defeat signifying in the clearest terms the Chief Constable of Leicester Police was opposing a criminal's right to interfere in a police investigation. In short a criminal has no such right.

Wizard said...

Totally agree with you Viv.

Hiya Wizard

Thanks. The McCanns have a team of expensive lawyers and other reputation managers working on their behalf to continue to convince the public everything they say and do is right. This site will continue to undermine their sickening spin and thanks for flagging up some of it!

Wizard,

They got some police files but wanted all of them.

They got some support for the Amber Alert System but needed more.

What Clarence is trying to say is that the McCanns need the public to support them otherwise.......

If Gordon Brown is really talking to the McCanns about Madeleine's disappearance, I have to ask WHY?

He is not their MP.

He is not a policeman, involved with missing persons.

He is supposed to be running the country.

If he really is talking to the McCanns, why are they getting help that other voters are not?

You know the people I mean.
The ones who missed out on the 10% tax cut.
The ones who are paying more for their fuel.
The ones who will lose out when the new car tax comes in.
The ones whose houses have already dropped in value.
Not to mention those who have suffered from violence on our streets.

Why do the McCanns get more help than all these people?

Any ideas?

Hi Viv - all

I logged onto the DE before coming onto this blog and was rather alarmed at the tone of the article. It makes out that the McCanns are victors. I just hope it is wrong:

MCCANNS WELCOME EU ALERT BACKING
Story Image

Kate and Gerry McCann welcomed EU backing for missing child alert system

Thursday July 10,2008

We now urge the Commission to act swiftly in taking this forward in practical terms"

docmac said...

Hi Stonemaid

Just popped in for a moment. The MEPs are simply endorsing and reaffirming a decision taken long before the McCanns even thought of going to Portugal. They have NOT recommended an AMBER Alert type system for Europe. The arrogant McCanns' involvement is non-existent. It's bandwagon stuff.

jj

In my opinion GB could not run a tea party. Just don't tell Viv ;-)
Of course we know he had contact with them in the early days but he got out of it faster than you can say "The McCanns are using 3 bedrooms again."

Hi Viv and all

Not here for long and have had no time to look back, have I missed anything really vital.

Stonemaid,

Clarence will milk this news for all it is worth.

Viv,

We had a total of 9 workmen in today, I have to say all extremely nice guys. When the news came on the radio about the missing alert system it was so interesting to hear them all talking about the case. I have to say they all think the parents are very sus.
I did not keep them talking for too long as I just want the job finished. Talk about dust and mess, my poor dog and cat do not know what to do with themselves. I am sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Di said...

Hi Doc

Hope you are well!

I am really missing reading and posting. All I have had to go on are the news items. It's just as well I know they are spin!

"Everyone knows the McCann's instigated putting in place an Amber Alert type system in Europe."

Rubbish. The 116 numbers were mooted in 2005 and the recommendations were ratified in 2006. Gerry runs around shouting about AMBER Alert because he hopes it will look good in front on a judge. He had nothing to do with it. He attempted to hijack the process and failed miserably.

Not allowed near children because I dare to speak out against the status quo. I am proud of my stance in life over this issue. All I ask is that these two are led into a courtroom and are asked direct probing questions and are made to think and answer about events that happened on that holiday.

I can handle being seen as militant when it is because you don't agree with a group's point of view. In this case the sadest bit is about Madeleine and after that is the way these two have used professional spin media merchants to hide behind.

ONE DAY THEIR OWN CHILDREN WILL GROW UP and are they likely to be less curious than Madeleine seems to be. remember this 3 yr old had a greater moral compass than these two had in their late thirties.

Bring it on. As I mentioned I am connected to as I am sure others on here are. First and foremost connected to my own brain !!

The status quo over here Docmac is heavily against them but they are in denial about this to all. Even when papers print surveys that show 95 per cent think they were negligent. Right I'm off now to get some shut eye. One last thought. These people know I know senior Judges and yet they continue to put me down. Interesting isn't it.

And finally I remind us all of a lady called Veronica Guerin

...The age of the newspaper reporter as crusading hero is given an excellent treatment in this biographical drama. Veronica Guerin (powerfully portrayed by Cate Blanchett) was assassinated after writing a series of revelatory articles exposing the drug overlords who battled for control of Dublin in the mid-1990s. Like Erin Brockovich, Guerin pursued a moral goal. Unlike Brockovich, she paid the ultimate price for championing the truth

Such a shame that no one like her has emerged so far to expose in a dignified and systematic way the shenanigans of the charade. The space is there for a journalist to step forward isn't it.

Gerry has a new post on his blog"

Day 434: 10/07/2008 Day:
We have recently managed to have a break (ahem) visiting family. Sean and Amelie have had a brilliant time and it has been great for me to spend so much time with them. Although this has been a relaxing break, it has been incredibly difficult for Kate and me to have been on holiday without Madeleine- it is all too apparent what is missing. WHAT????????

We were very pleased to learn today that the written declaration calling for the introduction of an EU wide Amber alert (ahem) system has been successful. More than half of the 786 Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s) were required to sign the declaration for it to be adopted as a full resolution of the European Parliament and as of today 417 had signed. This is a small step in the right direction and a lot of work will be needed to get National Amber alert systems implemented. The idea already has the support of the European Commission and this additional political impetus should speed up the implementation process.

We would like to thank Edward McMillan-Scott and the other 4 sponsors of the declaration, all those MEP’s who signed the declaration and all the members of the public who lobbied their MEP’s.

There has been a lot of speculation in the press over the last 10 days that the investigation in to Madeleine’s disappearance has closed. We have not heard anything officially other than we know the files are with the prosecutor and the period of secrecy has been extended to 14th August. Our independent investigation continues and we urge people going on holiday to remain vigilant and consider taking one of our posters with them- downloadable from the how to help section of the website.

SOUNDBITE by Kate McCANN, in English. Children are precious members of the European Union, they are vulnerable and they need us to represent them and protect them and to ensure that Europe is a safe place fro them to be. Finally, we implored you to support this declaration. Please do not wait for another child and family to suffers what we have before agreeing the support to the implementation of an alert system in Europe.

Maddie case will be decided until the end of July - Diário de Notícias

Investigation. Archiving, accusation or new diligences are the options

At a time when the speculation about the foreseen dates for a decision about the Maddie case increases, the office of Pinto Monteiro, the Republic’s Attorney General, guaranteed to DN that the deadline that was imposed on the Public Ministry’s prosecutors terminates at the end of this month.

During this week, some newspapers pointed at next week and at the 2nd of August for the Public Ministry to reach a decision about the process.

This decision may be the archiving of the process, the deduction of an accusation or the scheduling of new diligences, after the PJ delivered its final report about the investigation to the Public Ministry.

“There was no set deadline given” in that sense by Pinto Monteiro, Pinto Monteiro’s office told DN. What was requested from the magistrates is that within a reasonable time frame, and before the end of the month, they concluded whether or not there is a need to carry out further diligences or if the process is ready for the final dispatch”.

On the other hand, while many reinforce the idea that Gerry and Kate McCann, arguidos due to a suspicion of involvement in their daughter’s disappearance, may be accused of the practice of the crime of exposure and abandonment of a minor, which is punished with a prison sentence of up to five years, the lawyer João Grade dos Santos, while having no knowledge of the process, is peremptory when he states to DN that “the crime of abandonment demands intent”.

And “as long as intent is not proved, crime cannot be considered”, the lawyer stressed, reminding that “it is only a crime when the person who abandons knows that under those circumstances the minor will be at risk”.

And he exemplifies: “A father leaves a son at home and he knows that anything may happen. But if that never occurs to him, then it’s not a crime anymore”, he explains. “If someone grabs a child and takes her into the mountains and leaves her there overnight, then it is a crime, because the person knows that the child is at risk”.

João Grade dos Santos - Cipriano lawyer arrested

A LAWYER who is defending Leonor Cipriano in the alleged case of torture during police interrogation was arrested for the possession of drugs at the Odemira women’s prison in the Alentejo last week.

João Grade dos Santos was arrested on Thursday (April 17) carrying 45 doses of amphetamines and a quarter of a tablet of ecstasy while visiting the prison with a number of bags.

“The lawyer was interrogated by the police and was set free the same day, to await a court date,” said the GNR spokesman.

João Grade dos Santos told Lusa news agency that he had been given the bags so that he could take them to one of the prisoners, whose house had already been searched by the Polícia Judiciária.

“I did not know what was in the bags, I am shocked at the situation,” he said. “I hope that this case can be clarified as soon as possible, for the sake of my good name and reputation.”

Two Doctors do not know that leaving their 3 little children aged 3 and under alone in a holiday flat whilst they wine and dine in a Tapas Bar with friends 100mts away carries any child safety risks. Choking, climbing to reach for something, climbing out of a cot, climbing over the stairgate, putting something in a electric socket, running a bath and playing mummy because a little brother or sister has been sick all over themselves or their nappy has leaked all over them (how tragic and pitiful would that be) wandering out of unlocked flat a few I can think of in a few seconds. She was working. Even so, she was arrested and presented in a court of law. And very well so, in my opinion. Her son is not responsible for the circumstances and the social services confirmed the mother never asked for any help with the situation.

ICTOAN, water, yes. Clean water, of course not. :-)

Anonymous said...

ICOTAN,

That is what I was thinking.

Claudia,

You can boil the dirty water then let it cool. Just think instead of 1 litre of frozen concentrated OJ, Viv could be sending you enough powdered OJ to make the equivalent of 1000 litres of OJ! Yummy, yummy! Remember to rub salt and lime juice round the rim of the glass (you do have glasses) to stop any nasty critters crawling in.

Cláudia said...

Zodiac, but how do I boil it? I really could use two sticks. :-)

ICantThinkOfAName said...

Claudia

It is better to freeze the glass before rubbing it in the salt.

I think you might find a disused freezer on a rubbish tip somewhere and salt might be available from the Russian lady who hangs around PDL wearing a trench coat.

Sorry can't help with the limes.

This is for one of the many cowardly anonymouses who post on the sewer and who have literacy problems: João Grade was Leonor Cipriano's lawyer. Leonor Cipriano was convicted by THREE different COURTS OF LAW for the murder of her daughter. It's exactly because I believe in the due process of the law that I can say Leonor Cipriano is a child murderer and that João Grade has got experience in defending child killers. In fact, he is a very good lawyer. He even brings luggage to their clients who are in jail. Luggage containing drugs.

P.S: The four PJs will be in front of a judge, inside of a courtroom. The only place where arguidos can, once and for all, clear their names. Or not. Some, of course, would only be caught inside a court of law if they were dragged. God knows why.

Cláudia said...

ICTOAN, that is a wonderful idea. I'm glad there are foreign people in my country who make our third world lives so much better, with their wonderful, modern things. Praise the Lord.

Unknown said...

Hiya all

Well that is nice of João Grade to step in and give his expert opinion to the press on the situation the McCanns find themselves in. I agree with Claudia he, unlike any other lawyers, would be an expert to offer such an opinion because he is not only an expert in defending a child murderer (which is clearly appropriate here) but is also such a good lawyer he gets into character to better understand his clients, hence he is also an expert drug dealer who thinks of their every need by transporting it to them in nice little packets ready for their delight whilst in jail.

I am sure that he and his client just could not think of a scheme whereby it maybe worthwhile having some nasty facial bruises to avoid a conviction for murder. Their obviously high degrees of integrity would tell me they could do no such thing. Although of course being a lawyer he would realise that such apparent brutality could vitiate a confession, but what of the other evidence in this case? I did not hear about the police also battering the brother or the neighbours, or somehow finding blood from a corpse that could not be found and putting it in the freezer.

ICTOAN

May well find an discarded old freezer on a rubbish tip, lol, I personally never heard of anyone going on a lovely holiday abroad and finding the need to locate and regularly use the local rubbish dump. I wonder if Gerry claimed on his holiday insurance for all the items he lost whilst in PDL!

I read an article recently about the plane hold being stuffed with parents' buggies for their children, of course it could be very convenient to not even take one or if you do to lose it, on the tip! Unless of course you were a normal parent who thought hang on a minute I have a couple of two year olds who get tired and a little one nearly four who also may sometimes want to jump in and have a rest! No, the McCanns would not think that way, they had the creche all day and then their beds all night, so what need of a buggy?

I read last night DOCMAC put a comment on from Gerry's latest blog about how lovely it was, apparently, to be spending so much time with his twins, given they were on holiday. He does go for irony and does he now need to actually go on holiday to spend time with his children. He only seems to work part-time!

Here was someone who could really have done with just a fraction of the support a certain pair attract.

Struggling mum threw herself out of window
By Jonathan Stayton

A mother of four flung herself to her death because she could not cope with caring for her disabled son.

Jean Britton, of Cavendish Place, Eastbourne, jumped from her daughter's fourth floor window onto the concrete below.

An inquest at Hastings was told Mrs Britton, who suffered from mental health problems, had been living in a poorly maintained flat and was suffering from depression because she was struggling to support her 13-year-old son.

Mrs Britton had tried to kill herself in the past and in the two weeks before her death had left at least five entries in her diary stating that she wanted to die.

On February 14 this year the 43-year-old finally carried out her threat, hurling herself to her death from daughter Kay Bagshaw's fourth floor flat window.

Ms Bagshaw, 19, was in the bathroom at the time.

David Gilbert, a mechanic who worked opposite the block of flats, saw Mrs Britton fall.

He said: "I was standing outside having a cigarette and turned around to see a person falling in a star shape to the ground.

"I didn't see her hit the floor but looked up and saw an open window. A minute or two later someone came to the window."

The inquest was told Mrs Britton had appeared "generally optimistic" the last time her psychiatrist had seen her, despite low self esteem and confidence and fleeting thoughts of suicide.

Friend Deborah Barnett said she would try to laugh off Mrs Britton's suicide threats but that on the day she last saw her, about 10 days before her death, she seemed particularly glum.

Then on February 12 Mrs Britton send her a text message saying: 'I'm going to buy some alcohol and some drugs and I'm going to do it this time'.

Ms Barnett said: "I phoned her back but there was no answer. Then I called again on Valentine's Day and all I could hear was her son screaming. Her ex husband come on the phone and said she had passed away."

Adam Berry, the partner of Kay Bagshaw, was in the flat when she jumped.

He said: "Kay and I went to run a bath and went back to the living room and found Jean missing. The window, which had been closed, was open and she was on the floor outside. We'd been out of the room for about five minutes."

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict of suicide.

He said: "It's quite clear that her mental health condition was deteriorating very considerably.

"In the week before her death she had almost got to the stage of killing herself.

"In many ways it was an announced suicide. I am quite sure she simply waited for a moment until she was alone and then took the opportunity."

It just makes me feel sick.

Agony for McCanns as they reveal details of their first holiday since Madeleine vanished

By Vanessa Allen

So far only one Comment:

To Gerry and Kate. If it was so agonising to go on holiday then don't do it. Your little kids would not have minded if there was no holiday this year. If you had to go on holiday for your own enjoyment then don't bother telling the rest of the world how you felt. It is Maddie and her torment that we are interested in, not your jaunts and holidays. By the way when are you planning to take part in a reconstruction or answer the 40 questions asked by the PJ?

Thanks for the article at 11.12. It's now running here without statements from the lawyer João Grade dos Santos.

I was so upset about :

And “as long as intent is not proved, crime cannot be considered”, the lawyer stressed, reminding that “it is only a crime when the person who abandons knows that under those circumstances the minor will be at risk”.

Disgusting. But we know who he is by now.

Hiya all

Atardi sent me this helpful article which was in Dutch so there may be some slight problems in translation but it is helpful in explaining the Commission wish to push forward with the adoption of 116 Hotline numbers for missing children in all Member States, which it will be seen the UK do not have! Odd really when the truly massive number of children that go missing is of course from the UK!

Whether this is the article that Kate and Gerry seem to be focussing on to suggest Amber Alert is being put forward as a political proposal I am not sure, but this is clearly not the case!

European Union

Brussels, July 10, 2008

Commission saves alarm because of delays in 116 hotline number for missing children

Parents and children must travel in the EU rapid and free assistance can invoke. Only in the UK and in Belgium in 2007 were more than 7500 children reported as missing (www.missingchildreneurope.eu). The public concerns over the safety of children has increased by cases such as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal. In 2007, the Commission has taken measures at national level by a six-digit numbers beginning with 116 in reserve for hotlines for missing children (116000) and helplines (116111) for children. A recent EU survey shows only a minority of Member States these numbers to service providers has allocated: seven for
116000 and ten for 116111 (see Annex). The Commission has today called on Member States to speed up the introduction of these numbers. The EU is under EU legislation is not obliged to allot these numbers, but they should be booked and the public and inform service providers about their availability. The survey shows that Member States have made little effort to ensure the availability of the numbers to the attention, thereby increasing its introduction has been delayed.

"A year ago the Commission for the introduction of European
116-numbers so that parents and children asked for help can invoke, "said EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding." So far only Hungary has taken all steps necessary to identify the 116-services operational. I appreciate this example but do think that in the remaining 26 Member States have to ring alarm. The rights of the child must be under by all EU member states signed the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU are protected. It is a pity that the words in many countries no action when it comes to introduce the songs that can offer valuable assistance to parents and children. The Commission has its share of the work done and hopes that it will not be necessary to start legal proceedings on a matter on which a broad consensus could be formed. "

The survey shows that today there is progress must be made to the 116000 - 116111 and services across the EU to get off the ground:

* 116000 - and 116,111 numbers are generally available in 24 countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal , Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic and Sweden) but not in Italy, Latvia and the UK. The deadlines for reserving these numbers were respectively on August 30 2007 (116000) and February 29, 2008 (116,111).

* Most countries have made little effort to potential service providers to inform the 116000 - 116111-numbers. This has led to delays in the introduction of these numbers by potential service providers, especially non-governmental organization. In Finland, France (116000), Ireland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden are more efforts (press releases, e-mails/brieven to potential services, meetings).

* Potential for the hotline service providers have shown their interest to 116000 in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the UK. Potential service providers for the 116,111-helpline have materialised in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, the UK and Sweden. However, only seven Member States (Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovakia) that the
116000-number assigned to service providers. 116111 For these are ten Member States (Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Finland, Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Sweden).

* So far only Hungary has indicated that both numbers are operational.

The service providers for the hotline and help with their services can begin as soon as a Member State has assigned them a number. These service providers need their services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, nationwide free and adequately. The Commission is following the introduction in the Member States in the foot.

Background:

In July 2006 the European Commission has proposed a common phone number to reserve for the abandonment of missing children and also a helpline for children. This is a response to the adoption of the EU strategy on the Rights of the Child (IP/06/927). On February 15, 2007 and October 30, 2007, the Commission decided to 116,000 songs (IP/07/188) and 116111 in all Member States to reserve. The decision obliges EU member states to "116 numbers" generally available to make them mandatory but not the numbers to a single provider to indicate whether the service. The number 116000 was on August 31, 2007 are available and the number 116111 on February 29, 2008. After these dates the national telecom operators could activate them for use by hotline and hulplijnverleners. A third number, 116123, is reserved for helplines for emotional support to adults.

Following the initiative of the European Commission, the International Telecommunication Union on June 16, 2008 to 116,111 worldwide introduction of the number requested

Hi Atardi

Yes, you can put articles on here in Dutch and either me or someone can use google translate facility to post them in English.

Docmanc accurately summed the situation up a few days ago, and Mum 21 appears to be the only person posting on "supertroll" and still does not know what she is talkiing about, unless it is spouting racism or how to neglect children and excuse the parents. How ignorant to suggest the McCanns could implement anything at all in the European Parliament, what authority do they have to do that? Would anyone vote to elect them!!!!:
Mum21

"Everyone knows the McCann's instigated putting in place an Amber Alert type system in Europe."

Rubbish. The 116 numbers were mooted in 2005 and the recommendations were ratified in 2006. Gerry runs around shouting about AMBER Alert because he hopes it will look good in front on a judge. He had nothing to do with it. He attempted to hijack the process and failed miserably.

Hot day here. Wonderful sun.

BTW, according to the Sun the holiday destination was Vancouver.
I wonder why they were afraid of choosing an European country...

Was the probability of finding their missing daughter bigger in Canada? Or was it just a strategy just in case the date 14th July would bring sth unpleasant?
