MCCANNS HIRED CORRUPT DETECTIVES TO HUNT FOR WITNESSES

He is now remanded in custody!

Please also see the thread with the damning article from The Times concerning Metodo3 - but Clarence tells us operationally they are really good - what in bribery, corruption, and smuggling millions of pounds worth of cocaine - no wonder Gerry hand picked them for the job! Just how many people have they bribed and harassed now I wonder and how many years prison is it going to get them...My heart goes out to the PJ in trying to unravel this lot on limited resources, I hope Spanish police, UK and interpol are giving them full backing and support. No wonder the PJ wanted the assistance of Europol who work with various Member States where there is International crime. As a small country with limited resources they must be struggling to cope with this investigation.

From The Daily Telegraph yesterday:
Madeleine McCann: detective agency link held
Last Updated: 3:16am GMT 24/02/2008
A retired policeman linked to the private detective agency hired to find Madeleine McCann has been arrested on suspicion of helping criminals who stole £25 million of cocaine.
Antonio Jimenez, who has been linked to Metodo 3, the Spanish detective agency hired by the McCann family to find their missing daughter, was last night remanded by a judge investigating alleged police corruption and the theft in 2005 of 1,100?lb of cocaine from a Barcelona dockyard.
The arrest comes amid mounting scepticism about the role of Metodo 3 in the search for Madeleine, who disappeared on May 3 last year while on holiday with her family in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
Metodo 3, whose contract with Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry expires next month and has yet to be renewed, was criticised last year when Francisco Marco, its managing director, spoke of finding the four-year-old by Christmas.
It has also emerged that, in 1995, five senior members of the agency were arrested in a phone-tapping case. They were never charged, however, and an investigating judge threw out the case, condemning police entrapment.

Clarence Mitchell, the spokesman for the McCanns, sought to distance Jimenez from Metodo 3.
He said: "He is nothing to do with us. He collaborated with Metodo 3 on a project, but that was two years before the company was hired to find Madeleine.
"We still have faith in the work of Metodo 3."
Mr Marco denied Spanish television reports that Jiminez, 53, has worked for Metodo 3 for three years.
He insisted that Jimenez was, until three weeks ago, a business partner of his mother, Maria Fernandez Lado, who founded Metodo 3. He said Jimenez had been involved with a separate company.
Spanish records, however, reportedly showed that this business had the same listed address as Metodo 3.

Yes, Viv. Well done to you again for highlighting the timely issue. I'm very saddened when the public think investigative journalists have forsaken Maddie. They haven't. They wage a war against liars like media manpipulators; it's a war of attrition. There's no big one off explosion. Slowly, slowly, catchy monkeys.
Thanks again for your generosity, and protection of fair minded souls seeking the truth, however long it takes.
Best wishes to you and yours.

Viv,
I feel that M3 were handpicked for a special reason :)And if you remember before Xmas, CM & Mc's were not pleased about them saying she would be home for Xmas.And were not sure about renewing their contract in March and that could be replaced by UK detectives.
Maybe I am wrong ,but they now seem to be very happy with them,like you I do not know why,on the other hand,perhaps they know to much.

Hi Dolores of the pink rose.
Yes. Crooks of every kind worry about other crooks who 'know too much'. Pity is that they never knew enough to lead an honest, hard working life, and always looked for the 'get rich quick'...'live for today' ... 'me me me', and very often that means sacrificing the wellbeing, the happiness, the health, the lives of defenceless children.

Nice to see you. See you next time, chica.
xo

P.S. Fab dogs in Jersey and Portugal, yes? Unearthing the truth, despite sophisticated cover ups, imho.

As 2345 says: united we stand, and you know we agree with that, dolores :-) However, long it takes.

I think the McCanns have hired the perfect company...

ta ra said...

Dear Dolores,
The Dorset story is a despicable attempt to bring the 'sightings' angle onto these shores, now that the British public - and the world - no longer believe the McCann Machine abroad.

They are testing the water; seeing what the public think.

The Dorset 'sighting' is tripe. It makes me so angry, but hey ho, let's not get angry, let's stay focused. Stay factual. Stay on the case. Unmask liars by re-printing inconvenient facts; asking awkward questions.

And staying good humoured about it! Don't let the b'stards get us down. Oooo. Poor them. :-)

ta ra said...

Hey Claudia!

The 'perfect company', but not in the way they intended :-)

Claudia,
I agree with you totally, interestingly the Sunday Times recent article on Metado3 says that they were chosen as they were the only company who were prepared to accept the paedophile theory, and so got the contract, am sure the fact they are Fraud investigators and had no experience of hunting for missing children or persons was another deciding factor,according to Team Mccann they have payed in excess of £50,000 monthly with no results, who in their right mind would continue to employ them? Lizzy 23.01

ta ra said...

Yes, Lizzy, that's interesting:-

Corporate fraud investigaters paid £50K p.m., hired to 'search' for a 'missing' child.

Gosh. I do wonder what they are really employed for. No. I don't. Just kiddin'. We all know what's going on here, imo.

Justice for Madeleine will only come when adults ask the awkward questions, in my humble opinion...and I am humble on that issue, and humbly hopeful.
Sad world, this is. It's all about the money for the McCanns, their supporters...dimwits that some of them are. Did you see that S'troll, Psychopops and Gerry's servile girl gang? Yup. You did.

Ta ra Lizzy. Nice to see you on the case. xo

Hiya all

I think as ever that was a piece of intelligent reporting from Correio de Manha. I recall from when Tony Blair was in government one of his female ministers wrote they were announcing a story to bury other bad news. That is the way the spinners work and this is what Correio are pointing out. We get the silly Dorset story to try and bury the news about the Retardo. Tough luck again Claris, you are crap! But there again, what could you do with clients like Gerry and Kate McCann. Must be real tough trying to talk some sense into the control freak! Hey ho Pyschopops...happy reading!

I couldn't sign in as it says the server is down and to wait 30 seconds. Tried 3 times! Probably my fault - computers just hate me!LOL!

Pros must be very down this evening, what with serious cocaine habits and other annoying sniffers that appear to have been shown they do an excellent job! Under concrete, that's amazing. Who was it that made the very funny scooby doo comment last month? It may have been Rat. Something like "you just couldn't keep your darn noses out could you?". - No we can't because we feel strongly about a little girl who is no longer here because her parents left her alone.

I've barely had time this week but I just wanted to ask something that crossed my mind the other day.
Did I imagine this?

If the scent of death was discovered on both sides of the window, maybe it was still on Kate or Gerry's hands when the shutter was "jemmied" ? How long would the scent last for I wonder after washes etc? Just seems VERY odd that an abducter accidently killed poor Maddie and then stayed TWO hours with the body, BEFORE trying to jemmie the shutters and that he/she did this on their way out??

What was this for?!

Just a little thought from my silly brain!

Love to most of you,

Hiya Dolores

That was a scary remark from Gordon Brown wasnt it - prepare the public for the truth - I think we are well and truly prepared..and waiting!

Lizzy white collar criminals are the greediest and always have the greatest difficulty accepting their massive fraud (as opposed to a bit of Income Support or whatever) has anything at all to do with being a criminal. Nice those three directors from Natwest I think it was just got three and a half years in the STates for having that attitude.

It is a shock to take in that a whole bunch of doctors could behave this bad. Two are responsible for the death of their little girl and most of the rest of them go into full on lieing mode oh yes whatever you say Gerry.

Leigh like the bit about Psychopops and his girl gang - they always have to back him up and agree with him dont they - he must love that - saves smacking them into place!

Hi Viv, Dyl, still (hey I am a poet after all!!!)))

PJ have known for a long time and the phone record is probably the last clank in the prison door for him. They would have known about the two hour thing. It took me three days to put two and two together but probably only took them a second. Ah well, that is because I am so silly, indeed!

Hope you enjoyed your drive.

Hey Claudia

We needed Psychopops to point out to us that dogs can be really incompetent liars ..just like humans! but I think Eddie and Keela are really super puppies and seriously are bringing some little children to a better resting place and justice. How awful these murders go right back to the 1960s - it is just shocking how badly children get treated in these homes - a haven for paedoes and sadists to swoop on - at least hopefully we learn the lessons from it and little children will be safe in future. Thing is in the UK we tend to put them with foster carers now rather than in homes but lots of evil foster carers. Children will always need protection from evil and strong adults need to be looking out for these perverts who go for jobs to be near to little children.

Leigh - Psychopops keeps telling me I am stupid - I just dont bloody believe it! Oh and I do not have a fantasy LLB Hons or a fantasy BA Hons - they are real! Helps me to play armchair detective loooooooool

Good Morning All

I am off to work but just watching the news the world is truly a very sad place Levi Bellfield is to be questioned about the death of Milly Dowler why are people so damn evil?

Then there is the care home in Jersey I dont know what the answer is but these sick peadophiles or just very cruel people all need to be found and charged for the way the poor children were abused and murdered, I dont care how old they are now there is never an excuse for abuse.

Still no news on Shannon I hope she is safe...

Hold your children close and warn them of the dangers out there tell them never to be embarased to say no I was horrified on Saturday when my 14 year old and a friend were asked by a lady to help her carry her shopping to her car as she had parked it in the wrong car park and the trolly seized up and would not go any futher so they carried a couple of bags each over to her car...

I went mad and told her that someone could have been waiting to pull them in the car and take them away she got very upset and promised never to do anything so stupid again...

The sad thing is the lady was telling the truth she just needed a hand nothing sinister at all what a sad world when they cant help someone because she may be a dangerous person...

I thought I had covered everything with them but all children are at risk god knows what we can do?

I hope there is news of Madeleine soon if she is still with us I hope to god she is not scarred...

See you all later x

Dolores,

My thoughts exactly. The fictitious sighting in Dorset was contrived to distance McCanns from their employees - Metado 3.

I've never believed that they are being paid £50,000 a month, nor are they under a 6 month contract. PI's are never employed under binding legal contracts guaranteeing them £300,000 ! This suggestion flies in the face of the abduction theory; IF this were true, M 3 could have found her in the first week.

M 3 are the means by which Fund proceeds can be syphoned for the benefit of others. One reason a limited company was formed by Gerry. 9.25 p.m.

Anonymous/dillie,

Until such time as the McCanns sue PJ, Leicester Police/cadavers, FSS and the global public for libel, their lack of action will continue to support their guilt.

The McCanns have been at liberty to clear their names since presented with evidence at interview and named 'arguidos'.
Therefore, the McCanns continue to be victims of their own actions and decisions. 9.30 a.m.

Hi 2345,

Sorry for delay in replying,Ihave been at the hospital most of the morning for tests.

How fortunate for Met3 that their new offices are next door to a Swiss bank.....they are very shady characters indeed as are those whoo employed them.
I would'nt trust them with my piggy bank.The fact that Gsaid in his blog the fund is paying £50,000 a month to M3 and Kennedy also saying ,leaves us with a big question mark. I only hope this is also being investigated,as something stinks.
xxD 11.17

Daily Mail, 10 January 2008:
(Clarence Mitchell) said the Find Madeleine board members and the McCanns' multi-millionaire backer, double glazing tycoon Brian Kennedy, would meet to discuss the contract (of Metodo 3) in February.
"It is a matter for the bankers and the fund to make the final decision," he said.
"We are paying Metodo 3 £50,000 a month so of course it is a subject of debate. The decision is as much with Brian as it is with the fund, which pays for Metodo 3's involvement."
''They were in despair," says the family friend. ''That is when Brian Kennedy, the couple's millionaire benefactor, stepped in. He offered to fund an investigation by Metodo 3. And it's costing a hefty sum."
The agency is believed to charge up to £2,000 a day and, with a six-month contract that will include expensive travel and technology costs, the final bill is likely to be as much as £750,000.

Lovely Eddie the little dog, so skilled, helping uncover the truth, again. The McC's and Co must be going out of their minds that the expertise of these dogs is being praised regarding the Jersey Home excavations. Keela and Eddie the same dogs used in Portugal being used in Jersey.
I read through the articles on this and the previous thread, they really are disgusting. How these people can claim they care is unbelievable.
I read Viv's post re CM he was responsible for the Dorset story. What this guy expects the public to believe is just plain crazy, he must think everyone is stupid. In Portugal seeing the McC's parading throught the streets in their green and yellow regalia, you would have thought they were trying to gain votes in an election not the parents of a missing child, the one of three they neglected.

The Perfroming Seals are still making jokes about Eddie and Keela, "oh they only went to the McCanns car because it was full of Maddy posters" and so on. I know that Eddie and Keela are smart, but I didn't know they were smart enough to be able to read!

Anyway, there is a big hole at the side of the road I walk down to work, they are repairing a wall there or something, so I was able this morning to actually see what seven inches of concrete entails, by looking down this hole. Eddie must be truly amazing, because 7" of concrete is thicker than you think!!!

The Performing Seals are still posting their vile comments, but they do have a couple of backup blogs that they might move to later. But don't worry, because I know the addresses of those as well!

Maybe pop in later to see if any real news (ie not fake sightings by Portuguese-o-phobes).

Dolores,

Sorry you've been undergoing tests and hope results are good.

PR is no more than a daily drip feed of grossly misleading propaganda. There's no technology involved in M 3 making cash payments for bribery is there; intimidating the innocent is cheaper still !! Con artists, like those who selected them. A Police raid on their accounts in this case would be well worth a read.

The longer this case continues, the greater the damage is being meted to all those associated with the McCanns.

It's like watching the Rogues Gallery ... Gerry's fit of anger over Justine McGuinesses expenses tells us he wouldn't pay M 3 £2K a day !! Money's Gerry's priority second to avoiding imprisonment. 12.15 p.m.

Yes, it still makes me laugh. It was in my early days on DE Forum when I hadn't heard of keyboard monkeys/sock puppets.

The older I become, the more I respect the intelligence of animals in comparison with the behaviour of some humans. I'm still astounded that 'mother nature' in her infinite wisdom gave Eddie the ability to scent a skull buried in 1980 under concrete. I've since read that the Police believe others date back to 1960. If so, dogs have the ability to detect a scent 48 years after a corpse is hidden.
An 'intellectual' human wouldn't have a clue.

The 'nose' is designed for dogs' survival; originally used for scenting and catching prey.

On a Rick Steine programme a few weeks' ago a French farmer had trained two hounds to detect truffles. They were filmed in action and they've made him a fortune in the process. Fascinating to watch them 'give tongue' when smelling an underground truffle, after which they'd dig it up and carry it back to their owner. He'd had dogs all his life and trained them himself.

We've kept working dogs and the expression on Eddie's face in yesterday's press shows his intelligence and his love of doing the job he was born to do. Gerry doesn't keep a dog, does he? 12.50 p.m.

Dolores,

I admire your honesty. Smoking is a factor, but not all. I've known many with hardened arteries who never smoked in their life. It involves dietary issues as well.
Vitamin E is brilliant for cardio-vascular system, highly recommended. Smoking depletes vitamin C; 500 mg - 1,000 mgs daily recommended for smokers.

Both of my parents smoked, not heavily, lived to 86 & 90 and suffered no cardio vascular disorder. Both had incredibly good diets. As well as my belief in cadavers and I also belief in Hyprocrates wisdom "Let medicine be they food and food be they medicine". Everything in moderation - enjoy - stress alone causes chemical reactions and health problems. 1.05 p.m.

G's temper over the money 2345 paid to Justine, it was not even his money to be angry over.

Been away for couple of days.
Grate to see that everybody are still keep it up.
It looks like the news black-out on this case.
Which is good sign. I would worry if it was only UK media, but Portugal is silent as well.
I would say the preparations for interviews are on the way and there much more people will be interviewed then we let to know. Some big people involved are in line and Clara.
That is my thought.

Dolores and 2345,
Hello.

Yes I think the conclusive part of the case is in the process. Interviews are all that is left.

I think that though all involved prepared their stories, it would not save them.

Those individuals who know the whole story of the crime (G, K, OB, JT ...) could still be caught because they do not know how much and what PJ know. And they could be played one against the other.

The ones who do not know the whole lot could be cracked by the gruesome details of actual crime in which they would not want to be involved.

I think Pj will start from the outer circle of less involved and get them talking, may be after that there will be no need to interview McCanns - but charge them and let the prosecution to take over.

Case Maddie: the silence.

The case Maddie, as it is and all the media named, did not seem to change. The letters rogatory are well arrivals for the second time in the UK. However, nothing seems to give effect to this formal request for questioning friends of the parents and possibly parents themselves. The press is silent on this matter. The Home Office does not comment. The case seems to be ignored. If we made the rounds of the British media, Portuguese, European or even those of the United States, nobody is talking about the investigation.

In short ... Portugal

All media focus on the elements that revolve around the case. In Portugal, newspapers speak mostly statements by the National Director of the Judicial Police and its consequences: possible or unlikely as the sounding board.

Anonymous said...

Dolores

It says roughly that "The Maddie Affair" does not seem to be going anywhere. The Rogatory Letters have definitely arrived for the second time. Nevertheless, nothing seems to be able to hurry up official requests to cross-examine either the parents or their friends.

There seems to be a press blackout, and "no comment" from the Home Office. Nobody is mentioning anything in the British, Portuguese, European or US media.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's heavily implying that there is a press blackout and/or HO cover-up IMHO.
Dolores,
The Jersey case brings Police expertize back into very sharp focus. The commitment and methods are identical to those used on Madeleine's behalf back in July.
The seriousness of the findings in Jersey confirms the reason for using the same two cadavers in Madeleine's case. The horrors attached to it, puts Madeleine's case and Police expertize in such cases, into perspective. As well as the Jersey case, a 9 year old girl British Shannon is still missing and there's enormous sympathy for her parents and family.
These cases, to my mind, put Madeleine's parents in their place in terms of priority as far as their 'need' for unending attention is concerned. These other tragedies also make McCanns'their muddying the waters PR efforts appear even more futile.
News and press coverage of Jersey and Shannon are very positive reminders of the lengths taken by the Police to, firstly, find Shannon and secondly, their strong reassurance that they will find the people responsible for the Jersey case and bring them to justice. Brilliant for public confidence.
We're seeing law and order in action at it's best and WITHOUT Government interference. 3.30 p.m.
Hi Rat,
I did read a couple of months ago that our Government wanted to delay the questioning for their own purposes, ie; local elections and the possibility of an early election being called, they asked the Police to go down the route of the Rogatory letters in order to slow down the process, evidently or should I say allegedly the Police believed that they had sufficient to charge without further questioning. Of course this was disputed hotly by all Pro's, who are very keen not to acknowlege the obvious Government interference in this case. Lizzy 16.45
Thanks for the sugestion though it is good for everyone to learn some self defence I am just worried before they realised what was happening they would be in the boot of a car...
I think emabaresment comes into it as well with children my girls have both been brought up to be polite and helpful and it is hard to ignore someone asking for help or to walk away from someone who makes them feel uncomfortable...
Hi Viv Do you mind if I post to Mandz here? Only I heard her calling me and made a special trip to visit and post to her but although my first post made it the second was whisked away and I know she reads your blog and I also know how much she loves to debate
Okay Mandz dear? Seems your nasty blog mistress/ master stopped me from raising some points firstly about the sighting in Dorset. Although I appreciate it was Kate's father's story whose thread on "Justice for ALL the Family" you called me on again last night (oh I do know how much Gerry and Kate want the PJ here bringing justice)and second this new CCTV.
Hi there Clara if your reading although Mandz has never answered the questions I posed to her earlier she is about to show what a little "Star" she is!
Firstly Mandz why do you think this "international gang of pedophiles" has only two members thereby forcing the "couple" to take Madeleine with them on their extra, extra, special, urgent outing? Why did they not tie her up or leave her sedated but unattended? To risky perhaps? Thought she might wander out of an unlocked apartment and if locked in her screams of "DADDY" if she got free/awoke and might raise the alarm? Then there is the appearance of the angry overly aggressive woman (ringleader?). Doesn't the description of her long white dirty coat remind one of a doctor's coat? Why dirty Mandz? Maybe because if it were dirty might it also be smelly too? What smell could that be Mandz? As for her slapping both the man and their charge doesn't that remind you of someone? (Feel free to ask Gerry at any point) I mean besides the three stooges? Where was Curly anyway Mandz that he couldn't babysit? Who would have thought it hey? Madeleine turning up in the UK and her captors being forced out to buy urgent supplies of........GARDEN FURNITURE! And just as an extra special touch its second hand; explains why there is no clear CCTV footage of them or lots of witnesses- after all they couldn't risk going to the shops to buy GARDEN FURNITURE, just imagine they could have used a blanket! Silly Billys! And some think the press have abandoned Madeleine- not with the copy they let Clarence print!
Now for the supposed sighting. Well okay slightly more credible than the (how many now is it Mandz?) other CCTV "sightings" although still too "grainy" this time Clara isn't claiming "featureless men with shifty darting eyes" are running around. (nice to see that you picked up that eyes are a feature Clara and if you can see somebody's pupils you can see their other features- try balaclavas next time its what all the "classic" criminals wear.) But whatever happened to that CCTV film Mandz? You know the one the FBI were enhancing; did it get lost somewhere? They didn't give it to Metado3 by any chance? Which leads me to ask where is Metado3 and the evidence they said they had which would lead to Madeleine celebrating Christmas at home in the UK? Another story at our expense? Must have been as you still haven't explained who of Kate's maternal relatives the 100% match of hair from a decomposing body found in the wheel well of their hire car came from. Nor have you or any of the Pro cretins (lovely phrase Mandz so glad you invented it for yourselves) told us why you believe all the evidence against the McCanns (all ten boxes included) is LCN DNA please supply a link to where you have heard an official spokesman say this is the case. Until then as I have previously stated I will continue to think of you all as ghouls mocking the death of a little child who may of been harmed by her parents.
Surprised at you of all people printed that copy of Kate's father proclaiming her innocence as you said yourself suspects relatives especially their parents would be supportive of them no matter what so Murat's alibi would have to be watertight- but a character witness? "Our daughter/son didn't do it Sir." I bet the police/judges/jail wardens ect wish they had a pound for every time they heard that! Nice to read you Mandz I look forward to your answers to these points and will read you avidly to see if you have any reasons beyond "they couldn't have done it I knows it." to share after all as you and Mum say you have been debating this issue for mnths- but you haven't given a reason yet. Believe me I and others would have noticed. Love to debate with you Mandz- especially from here as my post don't disappear!
Thanks Viv Hun, love Plainwaters. XXX
Alsabella, Rat,
How can IP addresses be traced?
It would be great if that moron was found.
Anonymous said...
The police will surely have no problem doing so. They have entire departments and people specialised in these matters.
Even really good hackers could do so.
Hiya again all
Nice to see you on here Alsabella another great old friend from the DE and a fellow supporter of Justice for the Little One. Thanks for your concern about Dolores and my own health.
I fear the news is not good about little Shannon - sadly another indication perhaps that proves statistics are correct. Often when something terrible happens to children it is a family member.
What to do about people who want to pursue an unpleasant agenda is a difficult one. I think the best thing is to just delete their posts. This forces them off to go and rant on some other blog but then others like their posts to be left - there is force in this also because it shows them up for what they are. I see there are a few anon posts on here using the word shite - I also read Mum21 and Psycopops openly bragging about they post on here but take care not to let their ID come up. Mum 21 has hijacked Alsabella's picture of Portugal and typed SHITE across it so I think we have have a good idea of the author of the posts using profane and racist language. In fact many posts written by these two and some others cause me to wonder whether they are also members of the BNF using this to pursue a racist agenda.
Viv,
As I said to Hope and to some anonymous poster that seems to get very upset by the nasty insults, the best thing to do is ignore them and reduce them to their insignificance. I have chosen to delete them because that way, people do not waste time talking about them, which is only natural, but gets us off topic, which I think is part of their idea. I think their own blog advertises what they are well enough, particularly the part where they admit to their anonymous nasty attacks when they thought the site was their nasty little secret.
As we say here, "enfim" .... lool
What is important is that we keep to the subject and don't allow posters out to disrupt and get our blogs off topic to win. Paid or volunteers, let us make sure they do not succeed.
Unknown said...
Hiya Alsabella
I do agree - this is exactly the technique they employed on the DE - personalised attacks and page filling with inane rubbish to bury the topic of discussion. As you say they do become a topic unless their posts gets deleted and so I will revert back to doing just that.
Is the news all still quiet in Porgtugal?
Viv x
Anonymous said...
Yes, Viv.
The only thing I have heard on the news was the case of Haut de la Garenne. On television they do not associate it to Eddie, but in the press, this association IS made and how Eddie was one of the dogs on the McCann case.
Other than that, I haven't read anything coming from here.
Hi Alsabella,
Shannon is from west Yorkshire which is Northern England, Dorset is the South coast so quite a distance away. I think the Police here believe she has been murdered, and they are searching the mother's ex boyfriends properties. I think it is probably someone known to her who has taken her away. So sad I just hope she is found alive and well somewhere although it is looking doubtful.Lizzy 22.32
Hi,
Re the IP address tracers, somebody I work with has one, think it is a tool you can download from the net. Am sure though people proficient in IT can do it easily.Have never used one myself, but the guy in work was threatened online and that is why he got the tracer tool.....Lizzy 22.36
Evening,this is just a quick response as I am off to bed in a wee minute.
IP addresses can be traced using a "ping" program. If the traffic is bounced off several servers, it gets harder. But for people with the right equipment, not impossible.
There is an easier way to trace this bampot - he placed his filth on a classified ads site. To do that, he must have signed into it using an email address. Even a throwaway email address can be traced, it will lead back to the perpetrator at some point.
In the UK the Police would need a court order to get the iSP to hand over the details, I am assuming that in Spain it is the same, but given the circumstances, I would imagine that they would have no problem getting one and that the website hosts would be happy to comply.
As so many on this forum say: DO NOT FEED TROLLS. Delete them...unless they are amusing or useful to the ongoing inquiry :-)
Re: the ongoing inquiry. It's going well, imho.
God bless the loyal dogs with no vote who unearth the truth about loyal children with no vote. I think that those without a vote get forgotten in our society, but we are nothing if we fail to protect the weak, and vulnerable. They are us. They are more than us, imho.
Hi Viv
Have just spotted this on the 3 arguidos. The poster is KASHMIR.
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 3814860.jp
"SEARCH FOR SHANNON: Plea for search funds
By Staff Copy
A DEDICATED fundraising appeal has been set up to support the search for Shannon Matthews.
Now, as the search for the nine-year-old enters its second week, cash is needed to keep the voluntary effort going.
Shannon's uncle, Neil Hyett, said: "We didn't want to be seen to be begging. But it has come to the point now where we have to do this. People round here don't have money but they have been dipping deep into their own pockets."
Mr Hyett said the cash would be used to generate publicity, cover volunteers' expenses, and to pay for public meetings.
"None of it will be going to the family, it will all help the campaign."
Voluntary search efforts include:
Setting up a "search for Shannon" HQ in the Moorside Tenants and Residents' Association community centre;
Printing thousands of leaflets, carrying a picture of Shannon;
Targeting nearby towns and cities, and Leeds United's recent home game against Crewe, with those leaflets;
Organising the ribbon campaign;
Setting up the official Shannon Appeal.
Donations can be made through the Unity Trust Bank, sort code 08-60-01, account number 20098500. Cheques should be made payable to the Shannon Matthews Appeal.
A special balloon release will be held tonight."
I don't mean to sound cynical but why are funds needed? Who, in the case of a missing child, would not volunteer their time and effort freely? If posters are needed surely it's not beyond people to offer printing free of charge, or perhaps that's the way it is in Britain now, I don't understand why. Lizzy 22.55
ta ra said...
Hi Lizzy.
Yes. Poor Maddie's plight, and the use of her to raise money, has corrupted society because now missing children may be seen as a money making enterprise by some people, imo. E.G. Shannon and Marie Luz in Spain. Money making for what? Taxpayers fund police forces. Charity funds efforts to find missing children.
More money is not needed; more attention to children whilst they live is needed, imho, and support for their families in times of need WHILE THEY LIVE, not after they go 'missing'.
Hope you had a good day, by the way. Life's too short. Was beautiful here in the southeast. Hope Wales was nice too :-)
Also:
Poor Shannon is now a murder inquiry. No need for money to search for her. Her poor little body will be found, in time. God rest her soul in a better place than she saw on this earth in just 9 years of life.
From Joana Morais'blog on how Team McCann plan to target UTube. Another attack on free speech. If the suspects weren't running PR against the police there would be no need for ordinary people to make videos and banning people from HYS forums and closing places like the mirror only makes things worse.
Maddie: HTFM CyberWarriors Promoting Censorship on Youtube
The following is an email sent to you by an administrator of "Find Madeleine". If this message is spam, contains abusive or other comments you find offensive please contact the webmaster of the board at the following address:
Include this full email (particularly the headers).
Message sent to you follows:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Members,

We are calling for your support in targeting You Tube to have vile material removed from their website. We don't just want to send one or two complaints, we want to send a bulk within a 24 hour period. Our target for the 24 hour complaints period is Tuesday 26th February. On that day, with everything in place, we would like as many posters as possible to flag the material and send an email of complaint.

We were directed to the You Tube site a few days ago, regarding a really vile piece of video footage. We were astonished that You Tube allowed this to remain on their site and be viewed. In our opinion that sends the wrong message to millions of viewers. The video was of Madeleine talking from beyond the grave, asking Kate why she had killed her. Then we noticed other footage, just as vile, accusing Kate of killing Madeleine. It appears that in allowing this material to be viewed, You Tube supports it. People are openly accusing Kate and Gerry of killing Madeleine without any concrete evidence. What is more disturbing is that by their actions these people are promoting hate behaviour towards the McCanns. You Tube's inability to effectively judge material before allowing publication on their website, is allowing people to spread hate and lies about the case. Whatever happened to human decency and the principle of 'innocent till proven guilty in a court of law'? You Tube should review their publications criteria regarding this type of material because, currently, it's a free for all.

Here is what we are hoping to achieve with your help.
*Find as much unacceptable video footage on You Tube as possible and compile a list. At the bottom of this email are some of the links to footage we have found so far.
*Encourage as many people as possible to register at You Tube for the sole purpose of flagging this material and then e-mailing them a complaint.
*As already stated, we are hoping to make our voices heard over a 24 hour period, so as to target youtube with many hundreds/thousands of complaints. The date is set for Tuesday 26 February 2008.

Here are some of the links to the footage.
WARNING . IF you are sensitive to this type of viewing DON'T WATCH the video's, you can just list the footage links in your complaint.

Your support will be very much appreciated.

WHAT TO DO ON TUESDAY.
On Tuesday, you go to each link that we have found, the list provided.
A....You then flag each video.

How do I flag inappropriate videos?
If you see a video that you think is inappropriate based on our Terms of Use (http://uk.youtube.com/t/terms), you can report it to us for review by clicking the "Flag as Inappropriate" link under the video.
This is the reason you are flagging the video's:
1. they are containing shocking or disgusting content
and
2. they promote hate speech

B......Then you report multiple video's, do your e mail complaint.
How do I report multiple videos?
We encourage you to submit as many URLs as applicable within a single complaint. This helps us solve your problem more efficiently than if you submit multiple complaints.
Go to:
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py?contact_type=vidcomplaint
And do your complaints e mail.

The Find Madeleine forum is proud to stand alongside our fellow forums HTFM, Forever Searching, For Madeleine and Only Madeleine in the fight to rid You Tube of these vile videos.

Please show your support by registering with You Tube and joining in tomorrow to flag as many of these vile videos as possible.

Together we will show a clear message to You Tube that we want this disgusting material removed from their website.

THANK YOU for your support."

Team McCann think theirs should be the only public voice? Well Gerry et al that's propaganda and against not only Madeleine's rights to justice but also against free speech. I hope news of what these vile people are planning to do has reached the ears of UTube.

Hiya Leigh and Lizzy

I echo your sentiments - the McCanns set an ugly precedent demanding money from the public using the image of their dead child. Like Madeleine, Shannon's case is now a murder enquiry and no amount of green ribbons or money from the public will change that.

Missing children always receive massive publicity, and if any member of the public had useful information then they do not need a privately funded campaign to encourage them to come forward, unless of course, they are implicated in the death of the child. The conduct of Metodo 3 has not made any difference - they have merely perverted the course of justice seeking to bribe "witnesses" several months after Madeleine's sad death. I believe parents should place their faith in the lawful activities of the police and fully co-operate with them, rather than seeking to sell the public bits of ribbon etc - this purely comes across as profiteering.

Leigh also makes the excellant point that spending vast sums of money on children who have been murdered is futile - it cannot bring them back. The government need to be spending tax payers money more wisely on seeking to address the serious social problems in the UK that mean so many of our children suffer serious harm from abusive adults. Prevention is always better - there is no cure for a murdered child.

Hiya Plainwaters

Thanks for that - it highlights the hypocrisy and arrogance of Team McCann. Very early in their campaign they bombarded the public with some very sentimental videos on Youtube which they wanted to use as a vehicle to bombard the public so that they could achieve massive donations. Hardly surprising, that the millions of viewers on Youtube have exercised their right to reply. Some of those replies are strong, I agree. But what really annoys me about the McCanns is that their think the media is their little baby to put all of their self-serving and money making spin, into and no one should dare answer back. The media can be a monster, it was them that unleased the monster, they have behaved like monsters and millions on Youtube are exercising their right to tell them that in no uncertain terms.

We also have the right to form our own view about the guilt or innocence of Gerry and Kate McCann. We can either believe the Portuguese and British Police are spending millions to frame them for their own perverse reasons or we can believe that they properly pursue them for killing Madeleine, disposing of her body in a callous, self serving way and then seeking to defraud the public and the media for millions. That is what they plainly did and that is what people are clearly entitled to believe. People are not innocent until proven guilty..they are guilty from the moment they neglect children and murder one of them.

Great to hear from you, as ever darlingx

Viv x

ta ra said...

Hi Viv, Plainwaters! Ya cheeky thang; I wondered where you went! Chocs away :-)

Claudia: keep up the good work :-)

Now Ladies: we see that there is an expensive concerted effort to provide preferential treatment for child neglectors. Adults have power. Children have no vote. No income. No power in society.

What shall we do? Imho, we will ask awkward questions, demand answers, never give in to power politics at the expense of children or other vulnerable groups.

Josiepublic's post is right to highlight the cynical attempt to serve narrow interest by preying on the ignorant, sentimentality of adults...the same kind of adults who 'turn a blind eye' to child abuse; mobilising these ignorant folk to target free speech because they lack free thinking themselves; the ability to ask one simple question: why? E.G. Why does a sophisticated, expensive McCann Machine of media manipulators exist? Who pays for that? Who benefits from that? Who died for that?

The scandal unfolding in Jersey - children in 'care' abused, and raped and the cover-up by Establishment - reminds us that little Maddie must not die in vain.

IMO,neglectful adults must be held to account NOW, not later when it is convenient for them.

There are many more 'missing' children who need a voice especially when they have lost theirs.

Why?

Oh and Docmac where are you tonight minha amigo
WIZARD – MY VIEW FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH.
18.10.07, 3:24pm

The programs experts were never going to say that in their opinion the McCann’s were strongly implicated in Madeleine’s disappearance or either that they were not, for very obvious legal reasons.

Obviously everyone will take what they want from this program depending on their original views.

What I thought was very significant was the discussion at the end of the program about ‘staging’ of a crime scene and how police would look for inconsistencies in the parents story.

The program then highlighted the claims made by family and friends that the shutters had been forced open from the outside.

The conclusion was that this had not happened. Also earlier in the program the team had already discounted the idea that any abductor would have used this window as a means of entry and exit.

What I find most striking, is that the team completely failed to discuss the unlocked patio windows - as this is a known fact. They did not discuss why parents would leave the doors unlocked nor did they discuss this in the context of ‘staging’ – as this would be a classic example I think.

One of the experts did, however, say that the most likely theory was that something had happened to Madeleine inside the apartment – without actually stating that this would implicate the parents.

I believe that this program is probably the start of a campaign to gently bring people round to the idea that the parents might actually be responsible, although the vast majority of the people I know already believe this anyway.

Although from what I have read so far tonight – if that was the intention they have obviously failed!

Hiya,

Rat, did try to post to you earlier but must have not hit the post "button". In the grand scheme of things, someone up there is trying to tell me something as i attempted to say, I admire that you teach IT as I am, let's say, not the most computer familiar person in the world! - Divine justice - my post disappears into the ether! That's what you get for not respecting the power of the pixel!

Southerncross - likewise. I was always too scared to post on DE and came here seeking kind refuge. Recently, that has gone a bit awry with troll and friends, but in the long run it has made me stronger and Isis too.

I can take pretty much any insult, but won't put up with those who are so nasty, they wish ills on my children too.

On a very banal point, I read some of the dark side today. Poor JaneGT, I actually do feel sorry for her. On 24th Feb, she sent so much unintelligible stuff that she was serially ignored. It wasn't until she pleaded, somewhat desperately that she received a few pitiful lines back from some reticent souls. I do feel very sorry for her & hope she continues to post there just for the sake of them showing some kind of human decency towards her in actually acknowledging one of their own.

I am making a stand, NOT to say any bad about her as I really feel she needs friends. JaneGT, I don't care which side of the fence you fall, but you have a friend in me - & i sincerely mean that. I won't withstand bullying in any shape or form as I've been there myself.

Viv & dolores, I think you both beat yourselves up too much for your problems. Don't blame yourselves for what your lifestyles are. You can't map out what the future holds by what you do, entirely. Happiness has a lot to do with health and stress has an adverse effect. I try to keep everything in moderation. A little hapiness goes a long way but stress takes two steps back. I wish I could live by my own philosophy - I'm nearly 40 and covered in spots as I'm so stressed out! A nasty man at my dad's retirement do made some horrible remarks about a spot on my forehead. I could have been upset but thought he obviously has REALLY crap life to get a kick out of that. Now who does that remind me of??!

Seriously, I hope you both get well soon. Viv, I know you love your drives, countryside etc & I'm sure your desire for that will help you with your mobility.

What would be great, is if all of us who could make it, could meet up soemwhere central and have a coffee & chat when we know that justice really has been served!

Well, very long ramble, bed is calling, no, begging! Goodnight.

Madeleine sighted out of Apt. 5A at 8:10 PM on 3 May. Could this be true?

The Jornal do Algarve has reported today that a taxi driver from Vila Real de Santo António insists that he transported Madeleine McCann and three other people on 3 May around 8:10 PM between the taxi depot at Monte Gordo and Hotel Apolo, in Vila Real de Santo António. According to him, Madeleine was accompanied by a woman who he thought was her mother and three men, one of which looked somewhat like Robert Murat he says. Mr. Castela says he reported this to the police, but that they did not seem to give much credence to his statement. He says the only thing the men said were "How much?". The woman sat between the two men that were in the back seats, one of which holding the child in pink pijamas. He says say the couple get out of his taxi and into a blue jeep with yellow license plates. The taxi driver said he asked around if they were staying at the hotel, but that he was told they were not. He firmly believes that he transported this child, and that she may have been taken out of the country by boat.
Mr Castela, is a 67 year old taxi driver that has exercised his profession for more than 17 years. He is highly regarded by his community, according to the paper.

What to think of this? If this gentleman is not confused as to the time - 8:10 PM - than something is strange in Apartment 5 A. What time is it said that the McCanns left apartment 5A? At what time was the check that Gerry said he looked at Madeleine and thought of how lucky he was to have such a beautiful little girl? Was any of their friends physically similar to Mr. Murat or does he know Mr Murat? And what about Eddie's "finding" in the apartment and car? This article raises many questions...

Then again, it could just be another false/mistaken sighting...

They do seem to be growing each day...

Newspapers have heavy penalties to bear, and Clarence knows that, as does any junior journalist. However, newspapers are ruthless, and play the long game.

Only a moron or a suicide jockey would threaten to sue them en masse, and their readers, e.g. forum posters.

Clarence will get his comeuppence, in time.

So will many others who lied about poor little missing Maddie.

Keep the faith, Plainwaters. Time tells all :-)

See you next time. xo

P.S. Our favourite chocolate fireman posts here and on Alsabella's blog too.

Hiya Alsabella - that is extraordinary. I wonder why the police did not take any notice of him? It was reported I believe the TAPAS were using a blue hired jeep at the time. The Paynes reported the McCanns did not arrive at the TAPAS restaurant until a few minutes before 9 pm and so it is possible that Kate could have been in that vehicle around that time, in fact I have always queried just where was she? We know Gerry was seen by Wilkins at 9.05 and I have always said he could not have been checking the children because he only just left them!

If this is correct it seems to imply the McCanns sold Madeleine and is equally as horrifying as them killing her, is this the truth we have to be prepared for? It could have been Murat but equally could have been Payne because he looks just like Murat. As you say what then of the forensic evidence in the apartment and the other hire car? I suppose it also fits with Kate keep insisting she is alive and "I just know she is out there".

As you say it could just be another false sighting and they grow day by day, but as this is not one put into the public domain by the McCanns it would seem it just gives it a little more credibility and just adds to the bizarre puzzle I guess the police try to unravel.

Thanks very much for this which is extremely interesting.

Hiya Dyl

I am trying to keep a lid on the nastiness and from a read of the posts on the dark side today people have taken them to task for their nastiness and they seem to be turning over a new leaf - let us hope so. Certainly were they were posting was just blatant abuse talking far more about me and Alsabella/our blogs and how they want to shut them down than the McCanns.

I think the fact the comments are still available on the DE but not the articles confirms it was the articles that were the real problem and they got legal advice they needed to withdraw them. Also perhaps they were doing the McCanns a favour by agreeing to withdraw all their spinning lies contained in those articles! Certainly has not done them any favours has it?

I did feel very sorry for JaneGT at Christmas where she sounded almost suicidal and wrote to the DE expressing my concern. She then posted she got a nice email from them asking her to stay. Doc has suggested does this stand for Jane Geraldine Tanner - one could understand her being a very depressed lady!

I think I have mentioned before the cause of all my stress - discrimination by my former employers and massive employment tribunal proceedings - these are now drawing to a close and they are going to have to pay me a lot of money! If it hit the press they would be very embarrassed indeed! A nice hol will probably help me get better :-)

Lovely to hear from you and dont let nasty bullies get you down - easier said than done I know but this site has been fantastic again tonight with so many brill posts I am getting cramp answering them all!

Hi Dylan it appears Mark has "marked" you out for special treatment!LOL

I bet he'd like to tie Leigh up in knots!Truth is Leigh is way out of his league. He says he's a dentist with six children! I counted; although admittedly he made that easy when he stated he had three daughters. No wonder he never has time to read nowadays although apparently he was reading articles on LCN DNA whilst in Birmingham thirty years ago! In his time machine I wonder? I asked him to post the author or title of the articles but he never did; strange that. Now he is too distracted by his younger children (toddlers?) climbing over the keyboard to type posts intelligibly on the Dx.

I don't believe for one minute his age is 55 but his IQ may be as he believes cerebral fluid circulates around the body and can come out of your nose without fracture. But then his enthralled little pro posters worship him- takes all sorts. Personally I give the little bully a wide berth as I have had a close up of his obnoxious personality; surprising how much comes across in a few words. Mind you being fanciful with the truth might have a lot to do with that.

How old is Clarence anyway?

Nice to read you Dylan Ive been enjoying your posts for a while now. ;) Plainwaters. X

There's an article on the BBC site about Eddie & Keela...

How can a dog sniff through concrete?

A child's remains were discovered under several inches of concrete at a former children's home in Jersey after police bought in dogs to search the site. But how can they sniff through concrete?

For Eddie, it's all in a day's work.

When police suspected human remains were buried on the site of a former children's home in Jersey, the springer spaniel was part of the specialist team brought in to investigate.

Jersey Police said the seven-year-old dog located parts of a child's body even though they were buried under several inches of concrete. So how did he do it?

THE ANSWER
The dogs are highly trained using scientific techniques which look into how they smell

Eddie is an enhanced victim recovery dog and is specially trained to detect the scent of human remains. He is able to smell through solid materials, like concrete, because of scientific training techniques.

It's this training that sets him apart from standard police sniffer dogs, which are able to detect human remains in shallow graves. The springer's nose is more sensitive and he is called in on more complicated cases.

Super sensitive

The specialist training techniques - which are highly confidential - were developed by Eddie's handler Martin Grimes, along with the UK's National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) and America's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

They are scientifically based and rely on how dogs smell and the chemicals involved.

Canines are known for their outstanding sense of smell, estimated to be 10 times stronger than a human's. Like us they smell using special receptors in the nose, which react to tiny chemical scent particles in the atmosphere and send a message to the brain.

Dogs can smell so well because they have an estimated 200 million such receptors, compared to five million in a human nose. The extra receptors mean canines are able to distinguish between different smells much more acutely.

"We don't discuss what the training involves, but it's a lot more than putting bits of meat on the ground for them to hunt out," says Mr Grimes, a retired South Yorkshire Police officer who now works as an independent consultant.

Focus

"A standard sniffer dog is like a basic tool. An enhanced dog goes through much more training and is a lot more discriminating about smells, basically its nose is super sensitive. It's also about getting the dog to really focus on a task."

While rare, Eddie and partner Keela are not the only enhanced victim recovery dogs in the UK. The Metropolitan Police and forces in Surrey and Greater Manchester have them. But what sets these two springers apart is that they work exclusively in this field, says Mr Grimes.

WHO, WHAT, WHY?
A regular part of the BBC News Magazine, Who, What, Why? aims to answer some of the questions behind the headlines
"Other dogs have to do other police duties but mine work full-time in this area, making them very sharp and highly skilled."

The dogs have been used by police forces across the world and were called in to help with the Madeleine McCann investigation.

Both are springer spaniels, but the breed is no better suited to the job than any other. A dog just needs to show a keen sense of smell and it's the training that makes them good enhanced victim recovery dogs, says Mr Grimes.

Eddie was bred by a specialist search-dog breeder and Keela came from the West Midlands Police breeding programme.

Both live with Mr Grimes and have a normal life outside of work. He is currently training two new dogs, Morse and Lewis.

In the Jersey case, parts of a child's body were found on Saturday. The remains are thought to date from the early 1980s. Police have yet to say whether they are male or female.

Morning All,

Interesting about JaneGT's initials...Docmac may have a point, although if she IS JT it doesn't look very good for her state of mind, does it?

On Christmas Day I was explaining to a poster on the DE how something technical on the site worked (if you knew me, you'd know how ironic this is!) and JaneGT started attacking me in numerous posts with her trademark abusive and totally illogical rants. I could see she was the worse for wear and wrote to her that her 'fragility' was apparent and that I would ignore her. I didn't complain to the DE, yet they subsequently removed a couple of her posts.

The DE do appear to know the real identities of Team McCann, IMO, and I wonder what they know about her. She has been suspended before, but allowed back, unlike some 'Antis' here who are not connected to the case personally.

Am I being too fanciful?

Personally, however, I can't quite get my head around JT and the fluent Special Brew postings of JaneGT. But I do lead a rather quiet life here in leafy Surrey...

lgc,
I agree with you re Jane gt, she is clearly unstable and most of her posts are rants,I think drink does play a large part, although having been on the end of one of her abusive rants, she is clearly quite agressive and foul mouthed. I stopped reading her posts in the main ,as she would just go off on one and attack people for no good reason.Perhaps she is one of the paid posters, or maybe even as has been suggested a member of Team Mccann, who knows. Do you know why Ironside doesn't seem to post anymore, I used to see him on the 3 Arguidos but he doesn't seem to be there either? Lizzy 9.25 am

Morning all,

I don't think Jane GT is actually Jane Tanner. She used to be a lecturer and I know where she lives, so I think I know what her real name is..... she is defintely not Jane Tanner if I am right. The initials must just be a coincidence. They do exist, you know!

Actually I felt very sorry for her when I looked in Christams Day on the DX. She sounded very lonely and bitter. Still is no excuse for being cruel and abusive to other people, though.

PS I hope that the Finding Madeleine lot, with their You Tube antics, realise that this constitutes a DOS (Denial of Service) attack. It is illegal in the UK and many other countries. In fact somebody recently got 5 years in jail for instigating a DOS attack on Amazon. (I can't remember which country offhand but I think it was somewhere in Europe).

Utter prats. Advertising that they are about to commit a criminal offence. God help poor wee Madeleine with the likes of that "defending" her.

The McC's do not like the content of the Youtube videos. I had a look at the Toothman and Kate vid could not look at the Madeleine one, that was my choice that is what happens when you live a society that offers Freedom of Speech. The e-mail Plainwaters posted for all to see shows exactly the underhand tactics that team McC use. No wonder Fora have been closed and posters banned, clicking the report comment button and e-mails of complaints emasse,I hope Youtube are aware of this. Noticed the word vile in the instructions they sent to their minions, the word they use in their posts regularly. Is this looking for their missing child? They only want their sugarcoated versions of events to be seen. They should have thought about the consequences of their actions the moment they left their 3 little children all aged 3 and under in a holiday apt unsupervised in a vulnerable situation open to all kinds of danger let alone abduction to go and wine and dine with friends 120 mts away, night after night. The more they try to eradicate Freedom of Speech the guiltier they will look.

Kate and Gerry McCann: Beyond the smears
For six months David James Smith has examined the evidence surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for The Sunday Times Magazine. In this, the most comprehensive — and authoritative — investigation yet, he addresses the key issues facing Gerry and Kate as they prepare for Christmas without their daughter

To read more from David James Smith, click on the panel of links below left

That week in Praia da Luz, the week the McCanns were made suspects in their own daughter’s “death”, I was out there talking to them and to family and friends. I was at the home of the Anglican vicar Haynes Hubbard, sitting with him and his wife, Susan, while their own three children pottered around us. The Hubbards had flown in from Canada three days after Madeleine’s disappearance to begin Haynes’s tour of duty as the vicar of Praia da Luz. They had heard about Madeleine for the first time while changing planes at Lisbon airport, in a slightly unnerving encounter with an elderly Portuguese woman who had seized Susan’s arm and told her to “hold on” to the baby she was carrying, as a child had been taken.

The Hubbards had spent their first days at the resort fearing for their own children’s safety. Gradually they became friends with the McCanns, particularly Susan and Kate, drawn together at first perhaps by the McCanns’ need to find some comfort in religion. But mostly in Portugal the McCanns were enveloped by family and friends from the UK.

The McCanns were flying home that Sunday and had been to a farewell dinner that week at the Hubbards’. Susan told me that she and Kate had discussed how much one person could cope with. Kate seemed close to the limits of human endurance. Haynes chimed in: “And I don’t think she’s looking forward to tomorrow very much either.” The thought was left hanging there: how much can one person take?

Secret weapon
A serial sex offender who was on the loose for decades was finally caught by Britain’s DNA database. Now, every criminal is a cotton swab away from jail

Gone with the wind
The stage of death
Kate was to go to the nearby town of Portimao the next day, Thursday, September 6, to be questioned by detectives from the Policia Judiciaria (PJ). It would be Gerry’s turn the day after. For the media this would be a shocking new twist to the story – but not for the McCanns: the PJ had told them four weeks earlier they were going to be subjected to formal interviews and the McCanns had stayed on, instead of going home at the end of August as originally planned, waiting for the interviews to take place. Waiting. Waiting.

Finally, the PJ called. They told the McCanns they would be made official suspects – arguidos. The McCanns had noted the change of mood in Portugal, especially among the PJ, and the increasing viciousness of the Portuguese press. Some of the stories seemed so incredible and far-fetched – Kate, for instance, disposing of Madeleine’s body, or Madeleine’s DNA being found in the car the McCanns had hired three weeks after Madeleine disappeared – that I at first assumed they were the fanciful inventions of an unfettered press. I soon realised how well they reflected the thinking of the PJ. More recently I have discovered the stories were being fed to the press by the PJ, from the highest ranks. So much for judicial secrecy. One Portuguese journalist told me that segredo de justica – secrecy of justice – was like the speed limit. Everyone knows the law; nobody keeps to it.

It seems important to make it clear right away that I do not suspect the McCanns harmed Madeleine, nor do I think they disposed of their daughter’s body if, as the PJ believe, she died in an accident that night in their apartment.

This is not a mere prejudice on my part. I have spent a long time considering and examining every unpleasant scenario. The McCanns are not my friends and I have no axe to grind with Portugal, its police or its media.

To me, the McCanns are genuine people in the grip of despair – the accusations against them are ludicrous and a cruel distraction from the search for their daughter. That’s why I put the quotation marks around the word “death” at the top of the article. Madeleine may be dead, it may even be more likely she is dead, but nobody knows for sure. Nobody, not even the PJ, as we will see, can produce any persuasive evidence that she has come to harm.

) ) ) ) )

That evening, Thursday, May 3, at just after 8pm, by their account, Kate and Gerry McCann were having a glass of wine together in apartment 5a on the ground floor of Block 5 of the Waterside Village Gardens at the Ocean Club. Their three children were asleep in the front bedroom overlooking the car park and, beyond it, the street. Madeleine was in the single bed nearest the door. There was an empty bed against the opposite wall, beneath the window. Between the two beds were two travel cots containing the twins: Sean and Amelie. Gerry had bought the wine at the Baptista supermarket, 200 yards down the hill. They had lived and worked in New Zealand for a year and that particular bottle, Montana sauvignon blanc, was their favourite. It was the sixth day of their week’s holiday in the Algarve and they were reflecting on the enjoyable time they’d had, how surprisingly easy it had been with the children.

When their old friend Dave Payne had invited them on a group holiday, it had seemed too good to resist. Dave and Fiona Payne had been on another Mark Warner holiday the year before, to Greece with Matt and Rachael Oldfield. The Algarve group would be completed by Russell O’Brien, Jane Tanner and Fiona’s mother, Dianne Webster. Six of the group were doctors. Gerry was a consultant cardiologist and had worked before with Matt and Russell. Kate had been an anaesthetist and was now a part-time GP.

The group first spent time together at Dave and Fiona’s wedding in Italy in 2003. Now they had eight children between them. Madeleine was the oldest, her fourth birthday a week after they would return from the Algarve. One of the attractions was that there were children for their own to play with. And the adults were a sporty group, a speciality of Mark Warner holidays; tennis had dominated the activities that week.

That might all sound very cosy and middle class, but that did not mean their lives had been easy or free of suffering – especially with the struggle to have children, eventually managed through IVF – or that they had been born into an advantaged world. Kate came from a modest Liverpool background and Gerry, the youngest of five, had been brought up in a tenement building on the south side of Glasgow.

The terms of the holiday were half-board, breakfast and evening meal, and the McCanns paid about £1,500. There had been some reduction when they had discovered that, unlike most Mark Warner resorts, the Ocean Club did not offer a baby-listening service. Instead, the group had asked for apartments close together, so they were all assigned to Block 5. The Paynes were on the floor above, the only couple with a functioning baby monitor. Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner had brought a monitor too, but theirs wasn’t getting much of a signal from the Tapas restaurant 50 yards away.

The Ocean Club was not a gated, enclosed resort in the usual style of Mark Warner, but a sprawling complex open to the village of Luz and scattered over such a wide distance that shuttle buses were used.

Even though the resort was open to the village, it felt safe and secure, and in early May it was still very quiet. Gerry never saw a soul, except once, on the last night, on his evening checks, going back and forth between Tapas and the apartment, an even-paced walk of just under a minute.

As the McCanns endlessly repeated afterwards, if they had thought it was wrong or even risky, they would never have left their children. With hindsight, of course, they would never have done it and now they are riven with guilt, but we can all be wise after the event, and so many of us have taken similar chances at times, in search of a bit of respite from our children.

Gerry had knocked up at the start of the 4.30pm tennis-drills session, but had decided not to exacerbate an injury to his Achilles tendon, so had dropped out and waited around by the courts until the children came back from the kids’ clubs at 5pm for tea. That had been one of the most enjoyable times of the holiday, all the children together for tea, then the adults playing with them afterwards.

Gerry was in his apartment at 7pm, had a glass of water, then a beer, while the children sat with Kate on the couch having stories with a snack. The children were clearly shattered – the last thing any of them needed was a sedative and, anyway, it was not something the McCanns ever did. They put them to bed after a last story. The twins were asleep virtually the moment they lay down, Madeleine not far behind them.

These days it was rare for Madeleine to wake up at all once she was in bed. If she did, she’d normally wander into her parents’ bed, whether they were there or not. At home in Rothley, sometime earlier, they had begun a star chart for Madeleine staying in her own bed. The chart, still on display in the kitchen, was full of stars. At about 7.30pm, Kate and Gerry showered and changed and sat down to have a quiet glass of the sauvignon blanc. They were first to the table at the restaurant at 8.35 and spent some minutes talking to a couple from Hertfordshire – two more tennis players – at the next table, who were eating with their young children. As they chatted, Gerry thought how lucky he was, his children asleep nearby, he and Kate free to come and enjoy some adult time at the restaurant and not have to sit with their children, as this couple were.

The McCanns sat down after a few minutes and then ordered some wine. The Oldfields were next to arrive, then Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner and, finally, always last, Dave and Fiona Payne with Dianne Webster.

That night their group ordered six bottles in total and two were still untouched on the table at 10pm. No more than half a bottle of wine each. The Portuguese magazine Sol reported that the group had drunk 14 bottles. Another Portuguese journalist told me a local GNR (national republican guard) police officer had described one of the group as being so drunk later that evening, they could barely stand.

They had just ordered starters when the routine of checking began. Matt Oldfield went first at 8.55 to check his own apartment and to hurry up the Paynes, who had still not arrived.

He was followed by Gerry, who entered his apartment at about 9.05 through the patio doors to the lounge. Earlier that week the McCanns had used a key to go in through the front door next to the children’s bedroom but, worrying the noise might wake the children, they began using the patio doors, leaving them unlocked.

When he entered the apartment, Gerry immediately saw that the children’s bedroom door, which they always left just ajar, was now open to 45 degrees. He thought that was odd, and glanced in his own bedroom to see if Madeleine had gone into her parents’ bed. But no, she and the twins were all still fast asleep.

Gerry paused over Madeleine, who – a typical doctor’s observation, this – was lying almost in “the recovery position” with Cuddle Cat, the toy her godfather, John Corner, had bought her, and her comfort blanket up near her head, and Gerry thought how gorgeous, how lovely-looking she was and how lucky he was. Putting the door back to five degrees, he went to the loo and left to return to the restaurant. That, of course, was the last time he would see his daughter.

As he walked down the hill, Gerry saw Jes Wilkins on the opposite side of the road pushing a child in a buggy. Gerry called hello and crossed over to talk. Wilkins and his partner were eating in their own apartment that night, but their youngest still wouldn’t settle. It reminded Gerry of the fraught time he and Kate used to have with Madeleine when she was a baby. In his memory, they could never eat a meal together when they went out, as she was always disturbing them and needing to be wheeled off to sleep.

As Jane Tanner walked up the hill, she saw Gerry talking to Jes and, as she passed them, she saw ahead of her a man walking quickly across the top of the road in front of her, going away from the apartment block, heading to the outer road of the resort complex. The man was carrying a little girl who was hanging limply from his open arms. The sighting was odd, but hardly exceptional in a holiday resort.

Her daughter fine, Jane returned to the table. At 9.30, Kate got up to make the next check on her children, but Matt Oldfield was checking too, as was Russell O’Brien, and Matt offered to do Kate’s check for her, which she accepted. Gerry teased that she would not be excused her turn at the next check.

In the McCanns’ apartment, Oldfield noticed the children’s bedroom door was again open, but that meant nothing to him, so he merely observed all was quiet and made a cursory glance inside the room, seeing the twins in their cots but, agonisingly, not directly seeing Madeleine’s bed from the angle at which he stood. Afterwards, he could not say for sure if she had been there or not. Nor could he say if the window and shutter had been open.

He would get a hard time from the police because of this, during his interviews not long afterwards, being aggressively accused of taking Madeleine – you passed her out of the window, didn’t you! – being suspected because he had offered to take Kate’s turn.

Jane Tanner, too, would be accused of fabricating or misremembering her sighting of this stranger with a child. There could be no answer to such an accusation – except that she was an ordinary, honest person who knew what she had seen. Sometime after 10pm, Rachael Oldfield would go to Jane’s apartment to tell her Madeleine had been taken and Jane would say: “Oh my God. I saw a man carrying a girl.”

It perhaps needs to be stated openly that all these timings and details, the way in which they weave and dovetail together, are based on witness accounts – corroborated not just by the McCann group but by others, such as Jes Wilkins – and that, despite suggestions to the contrary, there are no obvious contradictions or differences between them. Nor has any of the McCann group, at any time since, said they wanted to retract or change their statement.

That suggestion too is a lie.

Russell O’Brien checked his own daughter at 9.30 and found she had been sick. Jane returned to the apartment to be with her daughter, and Russell went back to the table. Russell would later fall under suspicion too, because of those few minutes he spent away from the table.

Finally, at 10pm, it was Kate’s turn to check the apartment. She only became alarmed when she reached out to the children’s bedroom door and it blew shut. Inside the room the window was open, the shutter was up and Madeleine’s bed was empty. Kate quickly searched everywhere and ran back down the hill and into the restaurant: “Madeleine’s gone, somebody’s taken her” or “Madeleine’s gone, someone’s taken her.”

Gerry stood up. “She can’t be gone.” “I’m telling you she’s gone, someone’s taken her.”

It was reported that Kate had said “They’ve taken her,” as if it was someone that she knew. She did use those words, but only later, back in the apartment, in her despair, as she said: “We’ve let her down. They’ve taken her.”

Matt went down to the 24-hour reception at the bottom of the hill to raise the alarm. The call to the police went in at 10.15. They arrived 55 minutes later. It is widely believed among the Portuguese media, and perhaps the police too, even now, that the McCanns called Sky News before they called the police. For the record, Sky News picked up the story from GMTV breakfast television, at around 7.30am the following day.

There was a latch lock on the sliding glass window, and the McCanns thought, but could not be sure, that they had locked it at the start of the holiday. They would later discover it was common for cleaners to open the shutters and windows to give the rooms an airing, so there was no way of knowing whether the window was locked that night or not and no forensic trace to indicate where and how an abductor had gone in and out. They could easily have used the front door, perhaps even had access to a key.

In the McCanns’ minds now, there is no doubt Jane Tanner saw their daughter being taken, but there was so little time to talk in the first few days that it was not until Jane saw the description of Madeleine’s pyjamas in the media, around Monday or Tuesday of the following week, that she told them the little girl she had seen was wearing the same design: pink top and white bottoms with a floral design.

While searches began, Gerry was worried about Kate, as she was so distraught and kept talking about paedophiles, saying Madeleine would be dead. He tried to be reassuring, but of course he was thinking the same things.

It all came pouring out of him at 23.40 – from his phone records – when he called his sister Trish in Scotland ranting and raving semi-coherently on the phone about Madeleine being taken, and Trish kept trying to get him to calm down. A sharp contrast with the way he would be later, particularly in public, once he had regained his self-control.

The detectives from PJ arrived at about 1am. By 3.30am they had gone and there was no police action at all, or none visible to the McCanns.

Four times that night they put in calls via the British consul; four times the message came back from the PJ, a message that the McCanns would never forget: “Everything that can be done is being done.”

One of the PJ officers had put on surgical gloves and begun trying to dust down the bedroom, but his powder was not working properly. He tried to take the McCanns’ fingerprints for elimination, but that didn’t work either. It all had to be done again the next day.

The twins slept on like logs, just as they always did at home, though even their parents were fleetingly worried – had they been sedated by an abductor? – that they should be quite so comatose. The Ocean Club gave them another apartment, but the McCanns did not want to be alone, so the twins were taken to the Paynes’ apartment, and Kate and Gerry went there later too, to try to rest.

They got up at first light and went to search alone on the open scrubland beyond the resort, wandering around, calling Madeleine’s name. It was cold and lonely – there was no answer.

Gerry had asked the departing PJ detectives at half three about contacting the media to make an appeal. One of the officers had reacted with surprising agitation, waving his hand emphatically: “No journalists! No journalists!” That, of course, was not quite how it worked out.

) ) ) ) )

For many weeks, the McCanns enjoyed a good relationship with the Portuguese police and were treated to regular updates and a flow of information via the family-liaison officers sent out by Leicestershire police. The problem with the three Leicester officers was that they didn’t have a word of Portuguese between them.

The first public indication of police thinking came at the end of June when the magazine Sol published a story about the McCann group, casting doubts on their evidence and claiming they had undertaken a pact of silence. It was the first time the McCanns’ friends had been named in public, but Sol’s journalist Felicia Cabrita had their names and phone numbers and details from their witness statements. She had called them all, and at least one other witness, Jes Wilkins.

The information had been handed to Cabrita by the police – she says she acquired the material through good journalism, which in a sense it was – and her source is widely believed by her colleagues to have been the former head of the inquiry, Goncalo Amaral.

The PJ appointed an official spokesman, Olegario Sousa. He was apparently plucked from his day job – he was a chief inspector on the art-robbery squad – because he was the only one who spoke decent English. He was never directly involved in the investigation and was rarely told much of what was really going on.

Initial suspicion focused on Robert Murat, who made himself busy with police and journalists from the first day, offering his services as an interpreter, as he spoke both languages and lived across the road from the Ocean Club with his mother at the villa Casa Liliana. In fact, the man Jane Tanner had seen carrying a child was walking straight towards the Murat villa.

Murat later said to me that he told the PJ the press were suspicious of him, and they told him not to worry and to keep away from the press and work for them instead. He had signed papers to become an official interpreter and even sat in during the witness interview of Rachael Oldfield.

Leaving the police station in Portimao one evening, a week after becoming an official police interpreter, Murat became aware he was being followed. Shortly after that he was arrested and interviewed himself and made an arguido.

Murat always denied he was out the night Madeleine disappeared, but three of the McCann group claimed at the time they had seen him and still insist they were right. I was told there was at least one new independent sighting of Murat out on the night of May 3.

Bizarrely, the McCanns believe they were inadvertently responsible for encouraging the PJ to take them seriously as potential suspects, as it was them bringing in a South African “body finder”, Danie Krugel, that led to search dogs being used. The PJ agreed to work with Krugel, and an officer from the UK National Policing Improvement Agency was called in to advise on a search based on Krugel’s findings. It was agreed the British would supply some specialist equipment for spotting disturbed soil and also some search dogs, including one trained in human-remains detection (HRD) and one trained to detect the scent of blood.

Ultimately, only those who were there and involved know exactly what happened, but the McCanns wonder just how the search dogs were presented to the PJ and what claims were made for their success rate and infallibility.

All British policing techniques are meant to be practised uniformly by every force across the country and defined in written policy created by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). But the ACPO was unable to produce for me any policy relating to search dogs.

Gerry was initially optimistic at the prospect of the searches by these supposedly elite British dogs and techniques. The dogs then went on to search the apartments of the McCanns and their friends. A line-up of cars were also called in by the police, including the cars owned or used by Murat and the Renault the McCanns had been using, which they had hired on May 27.

Those who told me about the dogs’ searches say they involved little objective science. It has been suggested that the HRD dog was treated differently in the McCanns’ apartment than in the others. The dog kept sniffing and running off and it was called back on several occasions. Eventually it “alerted”, meaning it went stiff and stayed still.

Then the blood dog was called in and directed to the area where the other dog had alerted. Eventually this dog alerted in the same place – behind the sofa in the lounge, which is where the trace of blood was supposedly found.

The cars were lined up, not in a controlled environment, but in the underground public car park opposite Portimao police station. Again the dog was led quickly from one car to the next until he reached a Renault with “Find Madeleine” stickers all over it. The dog sniffed and moved on to the next car, but was called back. The dog was taken around the McCanns’ car for about a minute, as opposed to the few seconds devoted to the other cars. Then the dog went rigid, an “alert”, and the doors and the boot were opened. It was this that led to the recovery of some body fluids that the PJ suspected would contain traces of Madeleine’s DNA, and which led to the supposed revelation that her body must have been carried in the car.

The role of such dogs is normally intended to find a body or remains. Without any subsequent discovery the alerts amount to little more than an indication – or worse: in one recent case in Wisconsin a judge concluded that similarly trained dogs were “no more reliable than the flip of a coin”, after hearing evidence that they were wrong far more often than they were right. The McCanns’ lawyers are in touch with the defence lawyers in that case. The PJ had never attempted to obtain a “control sample” of Madeleine’s DNA. That had been left to the McCanns, who had found traces of her saliva on the pillow of her bed at home in Rothley and provided that DNA sample to the Portuguese police.

Whatever the public’s perception – based on a slew of news stories – at this stage there is no published evidence that Madeleine’s DNA, or any trace of her blood, has been recovered from the apartment or the car. Any suggestion to the contrary appears to be misinformation from the PJ. Some Portuguese journalists and, apparently, some members of the PJ believed the UK’s Forensic Science Service (FSS), based in Birmingham, had been deliberately delaying the tests. There are some who suspect the involvement of the British secret services.

In fact, both the PJ’s national director, Alipio Ribeiro, and another PJ official, Carlos Anjos, have both said openly that the police have failed to establish a perfect match. The PJ found several specks of what they believe to be blood in apartment 5a, including one sample that someone had apparently tried to wash off.

They found a trace of body fluid – that is, not blood – in the boot of the Renault and a tiny trace of blood in the Renault’s key fob. Some forensic tests were carried out at the PJ’s own laboratories in Lisbon, where tests on samples related to Robert Murat were also made. The tests on the traces that were potentially the most significant came to the FSS. One sample was said to have produced DNA that was similar to Madeleine’s. An exact match would be 20 out of 20 bands, this sample was said to be similar in 15 out of 20 bands. But in reality, that result was meaningless, as any family member could produce the same match.

Some journalists were told that more advanced tests were being carried out on the smallest blood traces – tests called low copy number profiling, which could produce DNA findings in the slightest of samples. They were a slow process, but did not normally take more than two weeks.

In late November, PJ officers and forensic experts came to meet police and FSS experts in the UK, amid claims the PJ were still waiting for further results. Leicestershire police have apparently paid for all the forensic tests being carried out in the case by the FSS – they are the client in the case, not the Portuguese. The PJ have used this as evidence that the British are suspicious of the McCanns too – even the McCanns think the British police doubted them for a while, until the forensic results emerged – but you might think the PJ would have wanted to be in control of their own forensic findings.

I heard that a PJ officer had been surprised to find a member of MI5 at a UK meeting about the case, and this made him suspicious that shadowy forces could be at work. The Sol journalist Felicia Cabrita mentioned the “mysterious Clarence” – Clarence Mitchell, the former government PR officer turned McCann spokesman – and I was told there was suspicion too about another government official, Sheree Dodd, who had acted as a PR officer for the McCanns briefly in the early days – had she come out from MI6 to help dispose of the body?

These theories might seem preposterous, but for those involved in the case in Portugal, they fitted a pattern in which the Portuguese government and in turn the PJ had felt the heavy weight of diplomatic pressure from the UK – a pressure that the police and the journalists very much resented, with its implication that the police were not doing their job properly. This could be one reason why the PJ were so ready to suspect the McCanns.

There seemed to be no doubt that the PJ really did think the McCanns had done it. I was outlined a scenario in which Kate had come back to the apartment and found that Madeleine had fallen from the sofa and hit her head – hence the blood – and cleaned up and hid the body somewhere in the apartment, and perhaps had not even told Gerry until the next day.

The police could not answer all the questions, of course. They were almost as unanswerable as they were unimaginable. Where would they have hidden the body? How would they have got it into the car 24 days later, and where would they have taken it? What kind of people would they have to be – what borderline personality disorders must they both share – to keep that to themselves for six months, maintain a facade in front of everyone they knew, and at the same time not hiding away but going out to ask the world to help find Madeleine?

I know the McCanns believe the PJ were oversold the value of the dogs. It was after the dogs came out that the PJ’s attitude towards the McCanns changed and it became harder for the McCanns to obtain a briefing meeting. They were disturbed when the press began reporting that the PJ knew Madeleine was dead. Finally, after pressing for a meeting, one was arranged for Wednesday, August 8, three days before the 100-day point after Madeleine’s disappearance.

When they arrived at the station in Portimao the couple were separated and both interrogated. Kate especially was given “the third degree”. Gerry broke down and cried, pleading with the PJ to share any evidence that Madeleine was dead. “It’s coming, it’s coming,” he was told.

The interviews caused the couple “incredible emotional distress”. But they agreed, if they had been guilty, they probably would have cracked and confessed at that point. The police said there would be no more briefings. The next time they saw the McCanns it would be across the table, for formal interviews.

What was doubly dispiriting, of course, was that while the PJ treated them as suspects, they were no longer looking for Madeleine. I was told the PJ had “abandoned the abduction theory”. It was open season now on the McCanns. The publicity was wretched.

The British press were not blameless either, often lazily repeating allegations and sometimes repeating them despite emphatic denials from the McCann camp. If you read the blog sites on the internet you would discover an even darker, nastier tone. The McCanns and their holiday friends were swingers, apparently. That allegation was even made on the Portuguese equivalent of the BBC by a former PJ detective, Jose Barra da Costa. When I checked with him, he said he had been told by a friend in the UK who happened to be a police officer. No doubt that officer had plucked it from the internet. It is not true.

During Kate’s interviews with the PJ in September, just before she was declared an arguido, she was separated from her lawyer, and he was presented with a long list of factors pointing to her guilt, including entries from her entirely innocuous diary and a passage they believed she had marked in a Bible (which in fact had been given to her and marked by the original owner).

The PJ also told the lawyer there was a 100% DNA match with Madeleine in the car and showed him a document that appeared to prove it. Possibly, this was the document showing Madeleine’s control sample of DNA. The McCanns feared even their own lawyer thought they were guilty. Kate was asked by the PJ to explain the dog alerts by her car. “You’re the police,” she said. “You tell me.” Kate asked the PJ: “Are you trying to destroy our family altogether?”

Gerry was asked the same questions the next day but could not answer. (Sometime earlier a Leicestershire officer had said to him, just stick to what you know.) Why did the dogs only alert next to material belonging to the McCanns? The officer was brandishing the dog-handler’s report. And then: “Your daughter’s DNA, your daughter Madeleine McCann, how do you explain that?” “Show me that report,” Gerry asked. “No. This is the report that matters – with the dog.” Of course, they could not produce a DNA match because there wasn’t one.

The McCanns took heart when Goncalo Amaral was forced to step down after making public criticisms of them and the Leicestershire police – he had made the criticisms in a phone call to a journalist contact, not suggesting the comments were private or off the record.

The McCanns hope that Amaral’s replacement, Paulo Rebelo, a more sober, conservative character, will take a wide view of the inquiry. He is said to have stopped leaks to the press, and has been locked away on the upper floors of the station in Portimao reviewing the evidence with a team of officers.

Meanwhile, the McCanns are back home trying to recover some kind of normality. How long can you put your life on hold? They have the twins to think of. Gerry has gone back to work half-days, and has finally told the British Heart Foundation he plans to go ahead with the research fellowship they awarded him, a week before he was accused of being involved in his daughter’s death. He had told me, weeks ago, about the six-figure grant and how it meant almost nothing in terms of professional advancement, but might one day help in the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

He had prepared the application in his own time, working evenings and weekends.

In other circumstances it would have meant the world to him but, right now, he had other things on his mind.

Viv & Everyone,

Morning all nice to read your posts.

If any substance had existed with the taxi driver's account, PJ would not have brought in the cadavers and Leicester Police. The forensics found speak for themselves. The driver's 'alleged' report is, like so many others is false - designed to mislead.

Today's Press Update on Shannon includes - "The inequiry is similar to a murder hunt, but Police are "ruling out no possibilities". SEARCH DOGS USED IN THE MADELEINE MCCANN INVESTIGATION WERE PART OF AN OPERATION that also includes mounted Police, mountain rescue teams and helicoptors. Forensic scientists were also on hand, detectives say. As a matter of course homes of relatives and friends have been searched. Det.Supt Andy Brennan said "the hunt was taking on a series of "major strands" but stressed that such house searches were "routine".

There is no mention of the parents raising funds for a search. Unless this is fully substantiated, I believe this 'news' may stem from camp McCann; a ploy to persuade the public this is normal parental behaviour in such circumstances. Clarence will undoubtedly use Shannon's disappearance to the McCanns' best advantage, as always.

"Sickening Jersey Horrors" - includes "allegations of abuse at another institution were revealed. Threatens to be Britain's worst child care scandal. Former Jersey Minister yesterday released what he claimed was a secret report detailing abuse at a second Institution. It was shown on BBC news last; the contents were 'covered up' and pushed under the carpet by the Establishment Officials to protect Jersey's 'clean' reputation. All officials ignored the childrens' pleas for help. A British care worker who took a stand against the horrendous abuse was sacked and silenced. A Maths Teacher was jailed for 4 years after admitting indecent assault. Independent report commissioned by the College protected the staff member - not the pupil.

NSPCC has set up a Helpline for victims of abuse in both Institutions. To date, 63 (now adults) have come forward. There's a harrowing account of horrendous abuse suffered by a woman known as "Pamela". A male gave his account on BBC last night.
It was the first time in his life that anyone had wanted to know the horrendous truth of the suffering behind closed doors. "No-one ever listened" were his haunting words.

Alarming parallels have emerged from Jersey. The Establishment and Officials knew children were being horrendously abused; they turned a deaf ear and blind eye for the sake of their own reputations. Ring any bells in Madeleine's case ?

The victim Pamela also said "officials ignored pleas for help when children reported abuse -and offered little explanation if a child disappeared. Most chillingly, she recalled "constant" building work in the cellar - at the centre of the investigations. She said: "The things that happened there are indescribable - the most cruel, sadistic and evil acts you could think of. What makes it worse is that these acts were practised on very vulnerable and often troubled children who had nowhere to go and nobody to turn to for help".

The Jersey cases are damning and serve to illustrate the precise reasons for Viv setting up this site for Madeleine's rights - and -the public's right to voice concerns LOUD AND CLEAR. Madeleine's case - a cover up -involves the same Establishment involvment as the Jersey horror story.

Eddie & Keela are ensuring that the truth is unearthed in all the cases ... those responsible will be brought to justice.

Given the close association between British Police & PJ, the Establishment cover up in Jersey will undoubtedly be drawn to their attention given it's relevance in this case. It's an appalling indictment on those adults responsible for vulnerable childrens' welfare. Monsters, they deserve to be lined up and shot.

I'm posting this on Alsabella's blog to ensure the Portuguese know the truth about the Establishment cover up in the Jersey cases. I cannot repeat details, other than it involved, stripping, drugging physical punishment alongside regular sexual abuse.

Re: The Sunday Times Article

I read this when it was published in December. I thought then what I think now - completely biased reporting based on heresay with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING backed up.

The story is told purely from the side of the McCanns. This is not balanced reporting. The only sources this apology for an investigative journalist has talked to (and actually, he doesn't even name them) are obviously the McCanns themselves and presumably their friends and family. There is nobody else included who gives an alternative view. This is therefore not objective reporting.

I happen to be a trained journalist (although I do not work as a journalist in that sense). This is one of the most shocking pieces of one-sided writing I have ever seen. Shame on the ST for publishing it; although, having been to a talk last week by Nick Davies on how the media now routinely present falsehood as fact, this is what passes for 'reporting' in the national press these days. (His talk was purely concerning the 'quality' press, too - he didn't even waste his time on the tabloids).

In his book, Flat Earth News, Nick Davies writes:-

"The fact is that there are some horrible journalists out there - moral cowards, intellectual quislings, boot-lickers, butt-kissers and natural-born liars. Some of them are drunks. Some of them take backhanders from intelligence agencies or government departments. There are plenty of journalists who deserve at least one of those descriptions. There may even be a few who deserve all of them. But the important point is that there are masses of journalists who are none of thoses things, many of them genuinely dedicated people, and yet frequently they fail to tell the truth".

Since the 'Pros' never tire of shouting "Where's the proof!" at anyone with a theory about what happened to Madeleine, I feel it more than appropriate to ask David James Smith for his evidence which allowed him to write this piece in this manner. For without it, this is plainly merely his personal OPINION on the case. And it will remain regarded as such without him coming up with the normal journalistic 'goods' to turn it into a piece of serious, investigative reporting.

It therefore contributes nothing to the discussion of this case, being a mere personal view, completely sympathetic to one side, and cannot be held up to be, in any way, a serious appraisal of what happened to Madeleine or of her parents' culpability in her disappearance.

Good point and very relevant. This article tells us a lot about the “victim” mentality the McCanns assume but lets look at some facts instead of teatime with Clara spinning.

Of course the police could not answer all the questions but the McCanns the perpetrators of the crime could. What sort of people could the McCanns be? A subject of much debate Anon you seem to have established that.

Madeleine was known to have night terrors and sleepwalk but her parents talk about her having stars for her good behaviour presumably when they left her babysitting her younger siblings when they were out drinking and socialising on previous occasions as this seems to be a lifestyle they were accustomed to/ comfortable with. Lets not forget that both were earning; Gerry had two salaries one at COMARE at approx 100,000per annum and the other as a consultant around 120,000 per annum plus any private work would have netted him far more. As Kate was only working part time she would be receiving somewhere between 24/.28 pounds per hr. That means for them leaving their children to go boozing was a matter of choice. How much they drank is open to speculation some reports place it at Beer/Cocktails before tapas, fourteen bottles of wine and almond liqueurs afterwards; of course they will claim it was less; they would wouldn’t they?

As for the British sniffer dogs Eddie and Keela why does it matter how/why they were sent for? No doubt we will hear in time but its what they found that was relevant as their employment cut hours of tedious forensic work down and established more evidence against the McCanns who were then made the FOCUS of the inquiry and the PRIME SUSPECTS in Madeleine’s disappearance and they are at the very least suspected of hiding her body and staging her kidnap. The McCanns think that hair from a corpse with 100% match to a close female relative to Kate should be discounted, as should a match to Madeleine’s DNA extracted from the fluids that had come from a corpse as should any other evidence against them? Of course they do they are the SUSPECTS.

The McCanns claim they stayed on knowing questions were to be asked. Why would suspects be aware the police intended to question them weeks before hand? No they moved Heaven and Earth to get a “special” flight organized for themselves; one where they didn’t even go through checks and on their return hired a top extradition lawyer whilst publicly claiming “They would go back to answer questions at any time, and were fully co-operating with the PJ.” This is despite taking arguido status in order that they might not answer the questions as if they had not they would have been jailed. Recently they have hanged their stanc4e to “If the PJ drop our arguido status we would go back”. Well hard luck Kate and Gerry the PJ are not going to drop you as suspects as they work on behalf of the victim Madeleine. Millions of pounds have been spent not only extensively searching the land but the sea around Portugal and on the police investigation involving The PJ, Leicestershire police force, The FSS and their Portuguese counterpart; the case remains open and active with a team from Portugal visiting the Leicester police for the third time before Xmas and who are now awaiting permission to question the suspects and their friends on British soil. The PJ still hope to recover Madeleine’s body and hopefully one day she will receive the decent funeral her parents denied her that night when they decided to cover up her death.

Justice for Madeleine.

Hope you are well Viv,Love Plainwaters. XXXXXX

How can a dog sniff through concrete? BBC News 24

Eddie is an enhanced victim recovery dog and is specially trained to detect the scent of human remains. He is able to smell through solid materials, like concrete, because of scientifically-based training techniques.

It's this training that sets him apart for standard police sniffer dogs, which are able to detect human remains in shallow graves.

Alsabella,

Taxi driver's comments are unsubstantiated. True or false, PJ wisely decided to bring in the cadavers and reported forensics speak for themselves.

Press UpDate on Shannon includes -
"The inquiry is similar to a murder hu,t but Police are "ruling out no possibilities". SEARCH DOGS USED IN THE MADELEINE MCCANN INVESTIGATION WERE PART OF AN OPERATION that also includes mounted Police, mountain rescue teams and helicoptors. Forensic scientists were also on hand, detectives said. Det. Supt Andy Brennan said the hunt was taking on a series of "major strands" but stressed that such house searches were "routine". He said "these include Shannon's close family, friends - search included the house of Shannon's aunt and uncle".

Latest Press - "Sickening Horrors" - Jersey. Allegations of abuse at another Institutition threatens to be Britains worst child care scandal. Former Jersey Minister yesterday released what he claimed was secret report (shown on BBC news last night) - detailing abuse at second Institution. NSPCC Helpline has received 63 calls to date. Male victim spoke out on BBC news last night, female's account in today's press - includes "Officials ignored pleas for help when children reported abuse and offered little explanation if a child disappeared. Most chillingly, she recalled "constant" bulding work in the cellar - at the centre of the investigations. She said: "The things that happened there are indescribable - the most cruel, sadistic and evil acts you could think of. What makes it worse is that these acts were practised on very vuonerable and often troubled children who had nowhere to go and nobody to turn to for help."

Confirmed on BBC news last night that the abuse in both Institutions and written reports were covered up and swept under the carpet by the Establishment for self protection.

British Establishment has likewise involved itself in Madeleine's case on McCann's behalf - despite them being the prime suspects in her daughter's disappearance.

Alsabella, the Establishment's cover up of unmitigated abuse strengthens the concerns of the British public with the Establishment's involvement in Madeleine's case. This is for no apparent reason other than thwarting Police procedures on the victim's behalf.

The horrors suffered by countless children in Jersey was KNOWN to those responsible for their welfare. It defies belief that 'Officials' could turn a deaf ear and blind eye for the sake of their own reputations. Everyone I know cannot believe this and I'm sure family orentiated Portuguese will be utterly dumfounded.

It serves to illustrate the need to band together - globally - and voice our concerns in the loudest possible terms. In today's press a British carer who spoke out about the abuse in Jersey was silenced by being sacked. There are alarming parallels with Government tactics in the McCann & Jersey case.

PJ are undoubtedly aware of developments in Jersey given close association with Leicester Police and Eddie's/Keela's success in this case. It provides an insight into British Establishment corruption and cover up; the skull reportedly unearthed by Eddie confirms at least one child corpse and he's located a further six locations. 12.15 p.m.

I hope he and his family (if he has one) did not go through to much hardship due to his being fired. He - and them - should be proud. Were there more men like him in our world, it would be a much kinder, gentle place.

Thank you so much for the information about Eddie & Keela. I've been applauding their brilliance for months and was banned by DE as a result.

I've just read in today's press that they've been working with Police in Shannon's disappearance -in addition to their successful work in Jersey. It's fascinating to learn from your post that dogs have 200 million perceptors to a merely 50 million in humans. I watched an interesting controlled scientific experiment on labrador's 'nasal' ability and I now understand why they can detect and isolate the substance they'd trained to find.

Public recognition for Eddie & Keela is long overdue; the look on Eddie's face in yesterday's press was heartwarming; a really keen, intelligent chap who clearly loves his work and isn't at all camera shy. I read on another site that this pair have succeeded in all cases - well over 200, I believe.

Mr. Castela says he reported this to the police at the time, but that they did not seem to give much credence to his statement.

They do seem to be growing For those who don't read the McCann Files,which I think are really great, I thought you may be interested about the dogs.

How can a dog sniff through concrete? BBC News 24

Eddie is an enhanced victim recovery dog and is specially trained to detect the scent of human remains. He is able to smell through solid materials, like concrete, because of scientifically-based training techniques.

It's this training that sets him apart for standard police sniffer dogs, which are able to detect human remains in shallow graves.

And if the taxi driver were right about the timeline, then we would have a COMPLETELY different story in our hands, would we not???

The Taxi driver who says he picked them up on the 3rd did he say if the child was sleeping?

What better way than to dispose of a body by taking it out in plain sight as if she was asleep?

I may be barking for sugesting the above but it was just a thought if there was evidence of a death in the apartment then they could have moved her this way...

Not likely but had to say it..

Just on for a few minutes mainly to check to see if any new information about Shannon was on line...

See you all later x
