CHOSEN FOR HER BACKGROUND IN POLITICS - McGUINESS

As he did from the very outset, Gerry McCann reads from a carefully prepared script. Strange the way this couple never seemed to be capable of just speaking to reporters spontaneously...... if you had nothing to hide you would not need to prepare a script, particularly if you happen to be Gerry McCann who never appears to be short of something to say! When did we ever hear Maddie, we really love, we want you back, we are out in our hire car every day looking for you. Oh but they never bothered to hire a car until 25 days later did they? Instead we get the formal " our beautiful daughter Madeleine" sometimes mentioned as a clear afterthought, having pointed out how much he and Kate are suffering and how they want to get back to normal. I am sorry to say this but calling her their beautiful princess etc so many times, did seem very much like marketing her to me. All children are beautiful but not necessarily in a physical way, materiality, putting on a show...clearly very important issues to Team McCann. No warmth, no love, no empathy, certainly no spontaneity. Everything is contrived, carefully planned for manipulative and self-serving reasons and they and their sickening investigators have never been serving Madeleine.

I see former employee of Kate and Gerry McCann Justine McGuiness offers the latest piece of regular Sunday spin in the Daily Mail which again seems to be focussing on let's feel sorry for Kate, where quite bizarrely at the end of this sprawling and quite detailed piece about the McCanns she calls for the media attention to end!

Interestingly she talks about Kruger and says his investigation went cold, like the search ended right there and there was nowhere else to look. It did, didnt it, right on the beach..

She points out that she was interviewed by Gerry McCann for her post in June 2007. At no point does she seek to explain in this latest article why she so suddenly stepped down, immediately they were made arguidos. She does however, seek to point out on the one hand, how Kate continued to put her children in the creche every single day, but on the other, what a lovely mum she is....... how she dotes on her children. Justine confesses she is not a mum herself, that is good then, we can forgive her for making such a bizarre observation.

Justine McGuinness has a google blog herself, no mention of the McCanns and virtually no posters (!), but she does have a link to quotations which immediately took me to this one placed on her blog funnily enough on 26/4/08 :

Your theory is crazy, but it's not crazy enough to be true.
Niels Bohr, to a young physicist Danish physicist (1885 - 1962)

Think about it, Justine... or did you already~!

I thought it would be helpful to look at an article also in the Daily Mail about Justine but way back in September 2007, this, I think, tells it a bit more like it was...(and still is)"political campaign masterminded by public relations expert".

WE do not think you are much of an expert, Justine. There is no place for spin doctoring when the police are investigating very serious criminal offences where the parents are implicated in the death and disappearance of their own little girl.

I prefer the Police Officer's account, who investigated this couple, Goncalo Amaral.. they accidentally killed her and then they dumped her body in the sea. Then Gerry McCann challenged "well find the body and prove we killed her". I would say, knowing full well the impossibility of doing so.

Another police officer took over this case in October 2007, a serious and very senior man, Dr Paulo Rebelo. He undertook a thorough review as you would imagine he would to completely get to grips with a complex case and satisfy himself all options had been properly researched.

Having done that, 7 months later, he still maintains the McCanns arguido status and this was approved by a Portuguese Judge on 3 January. No doubt it is just about to be approved again. This is the clearest vindication of Goncalo Amaral that their could be. Of course the Portuguese police have to continue to cope with the frustrating delays, it would seem they now have phone, bank and credit card details for the McCanns and some of their friends to pin down their whereabouts and the nature of purchases at vital time, interestingly before the disappearance, as well as after, but records for three of their friends are still not to hand, could they be O'Brien, Payne and Tanner by any chance!

Portugal would not maintain this couple as suspects with all the heartache that would bring if they did not have clear evidence that this a status they richly deserve. They need the records above, to fit the final pieces of the jigsaw together and be certain they have all the pieces in the right place.

Neither would we, the UK authorities, allocate a Detective Superintendent and a team of 30 officers to continue to investigate the McCanns conduct here in the UK unless there was a very powerful reason for doing so, there is and it is an investigation the McCanns consistently refuse to co-operate in, claiming it will incriminate them, yes of course it will! Clearly not the actions of innocent parents who genuinely hold out hope their daughter may still be alive.

I recall the huge amount of money Justine McGuinness was paid from the Find Maddie Fund after her rather brief stint as an employee of Kate and Gerry McCann. I wonder how much they paid for this piece in the Daily Mail, I am not thinking she would have done it for nothing..

Politics and the investigation and prosecution of very serious offenders should always be kept separate and apart. The horrible thing about this case, has always been Gerry McCanns wish to politicise his daughter's disappearance, for his own very sinister motives. In UK law we are supposed to have very separate powers under our unwritten constitution that together form the State. They are the legislature/politicians in the House of Commons; The Executive/PM/Cabinet and finally the Judiciary and the operation of law. One should definitely not interfere with the other. Are the McCanns even seeking to re-write our Constitution so that when they have to face the criminal law they can seek to use political tools such as spin doctors to get them out of trouble? Has Gordon Brown failed to get a grip on this situation, like so many others? I am afraid even I am turning against him, and I have always sought to be a staunch defender! If the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law are not seen to prevail under Gordon Brown I do not think he deserves much support. Criminals being investigated under the criminal law, should have exactly the same rights as any other criminal, the rights enshrined in the criminal law itself encompassing human rights law, there is no right to political interference in that process which Gerry McCann was demanding from the very outset.

PR expert Justine McGuinness: behind the McCanns campaign

The campaign by the McCanns to find their daughter has been masterminded during the past two months by public relations expert Justine McGuinness.

The 37-year-old former Lib Dem parliamentary candidate, who finished second to Conservative MP Oliver Letwin in the race for the West Dorset seat in the 2005 General Election, was selected by the McCanns via a headhunter.
She was chosen for the position specifically because of her background in politics and is paid a 'notional' salary from funds raised by the campaign.

Since taking up the post she has acted as the McCanns' personal spokeswoman and organised events to keep the hunt for Madeleine in the public eye.
These have included a succession of interviews and photocalls with the couple, and Gerry McCann's visit to Washington DC in July on a fact-finding mission about the latest techniques for tracking missing children.
But she has been criticised for adding to the sense that the campaign has become an overly slick, and cynical, PR operation.
Recently, she reportedly had to be dissuaded from arranging a photocall for Kate McCann at a Portuguese orphanage.
Prior to McGuinness's arrival in Praia da Luz, the McCanns' media handling was run, in an unprecedented move, by a team from the British Government.
To help the family cope with the enormous level of interest, first Sheree Dodd, a former Daily Mirror journalist, was dispatched to Portugal by the Foreign Office.
Then Clarence Mitchell, an ex-BBC news presenter now working as a senior government spin doctor, became the voice of the McCanns.

Interesting article about how key witnesses got silenced..by Kate and Gerry McCann x

Why aren't the McCanns more keen for their friends to speak out on their behalf?
By CHRISTOPHER LEAKE 8th September 2007

They are the key witnesses to Madeleine's disappearance - the friends of Kate and Gerry McCann who could help unlock the mystery of what happened that fateful night.

But despite their knowledge they have strangely said virtually nothing in four months.

As the McCanns embarked on a global publicity campaign to find their daughter, the group of friends closest to the couple - and who were dining with them on May 3 when Madeleine vanished - were reluctant to talk.

That was only too evident when there was a report that a female member of the close-knit group might have seen Madeleine being carried away from the family's holiday apartment.

It was said the witness had become racked with guilt because, thinking the toddler was the man's own child, she had made no attempt to stop him.

She reported her sighting to Portuguese detectives but, despite the massive media campaign, refused to talk publicly about what she had seen...but then she went on Panorama!

Anxious to confirm the report at the time, The Mail on Sunday asked one of the McCanns' friends, Dr Fiona Payne, for an interview.

Initially she strongly indicated that she was prepared to talk to this newspaper but changed her mind when the McCanns inexplicably advised her against it.

Dr Payne and her husband David, a senior research fellow at Leicester University, and Mrs Payne's mother Dianne Webster had been dining with the McCanns at the tapas bar near their apartment when Madeleine vanished.

The Paynes have two children, but were said to be the only ones in the group using a baby monitor that night.

They were among those who stayed on in the Algarve to support the McCanns for several weeks after Madeleine's disappearance.

Dr Payne has made no ontherecord comments apart from saying people should not attach "any significance" to claims against the McCanns being reported in the Portuguese press.

Dr Russell O'Brien, who also dined with the McCanns that night, has only said that suggestions that Kate and Gerry had been involved were "completely untrue and extremely hurtful".

He is understood to have left the table some time after 9pm to attend to his own daughter, who had become ill with vomiting.

Another member of the McCanns' party, recruitment consultant Rachael Oldfield, has supported the couple and also told people to ignore what they read in Portuguese newspapers.

In the first week of the investigation, a doctor at whose Midlands surgery Kate McCann worked as a part-time locum told The Mail on Sunday he wanted to offer £100,000 for information leading to Madeleine's safe return.

The wealthy GP, who is also a property developer, asked to remain anonymous. He became emotional as he told our reporter that Madeleine's disappearance had reminded him of when his brother's daughter had once gone missing for 20 minutes.

But later he oddly became reluctant to discuss the matter and became hostile towards approaches from this newspaper.

The doctor's wife expressed fears that if his identity was revealed, his wealth might encourage somebody to take their three young daughters hostage for ransom.

She claimed her husband had to take a week off work because his surgery had been besieged by calls from the media.

Yesterday, the doctor and his wife refused to comment on the latest developments in the case.

Viv this is a great piece as it reminds us all that from the start they spoke having prepared scripts. Mindblowing!! They then when all the world was watching employed some bit part lady who was described as a PR expert. In other words they went for somebody they knew wanted them for her own publicity and who would not ask challenging probing questions.

So they didn't go to a real PR expert they went to a wannabee PR expert. Why? Not hard to work out.

A timely reminder Viv

Morning Bath

What I find amazing is that they continue to read from scripts...

If we are to belive that they were told not to show any emotion at the begining of this (and I cant see how I would stop myself from being an emotional wreck in their shoes) sureley now nearly a year later with no sighting of her and M3 who promised to have her home for Christmas clueless about where she is they would be apealing to her directly if she was still alive?

Asking the scum that ocupy the discusing sites that abuse children daily to come forward there is a huge reward to be had no questions asked (if they were not involved in her abduction they have nothing to fear) but nothing?

They believe she is still alive yet they never speak to her or about her?

Poor child...

Same style, same arguments. It sounds like Rosie...
This "piece of writing" is full of contradictions and cheap arguments.

"Sunshine streamed through the open window and the sound of children playing outside filled the room".

Children playing happily outside...a nice and not dangerous athmosphere.

Good morning Opus,

I wonder if you could get your human companion to show you the article in the Mail on Sunday in which David Blunkett's new squeeze claims to have picked up one of your distant cousins at Boulders for Dave to cop a feel. Perhaps you could release a statement which explains that as a GP, she should have the intelligence to know that this is both illegal and extremely irresponsible. Oh, hang on - I've just remembered that not all GPs can make these seemingly simple deductions so don't bother.

Good morning all,

Marga 9.48pm,

Thanks for posting that article and I agree with your comments.

"But I never understood why they did not take the children with them for supper at the tapas bar on the evening Madeleine disappeared".

I would ask her why just the evening M disappeared, did she understand the other nights that all 3 children were left. Strange, IMHO. Also if she never understood this how can she believe 100% they are innocent of anything.

Librarising your post of 23.42pm,
well said.

With regard to it being important that we beleive this is an abduction. IMHO they want us to believe it takes the responsibilty/culpability away from them and the blame and accountability lies elsewhere. Just as well not all Joe Public are gullible.

BBFN, have a lovely day everyone.

Docmac,

With regard to your extremely disturbing story in today's excellent paper of record The Mail on Sunday (free Gerry and Kate plate with every £10,000), Opus the Spin Penguin has released the following statement:-

"It is a well-established fact that in this modern age, where air travel and organized crime are rife, repulsive penguinfeeliacs can get anywhere...South Africa, the London Zoo, Praia da Zoo...

It is no defence to claim you can guarantee a new passport within 24 hours for one or any number of penguins and their associates because of your position in government. (How much did you say?? Is a plain brown envelope OK?)

And you would do well to ponder the ancient Turkish proverb:-

“He who sleeps with a blind man will wake up cross-eyed".

Not to mention Samuel Butler:-

“A blind man knows he cannot see, and is glad to be led, though it be by a dog".

Donations in this large plastic cannister, if you would...

I dont know whta the legal aspects of this or its ramifications would be but surely if they and their friends have nothing to hide then it is in everyones best intrests, firstly madeleines to do this. The papers full of McCann related stories today. The press appear to believe their spin no matter what is thrown at them. If a sympathetic ear is needed Sky news can be relied upon and ITV, GMTV and more recently BBC. Its a wonderful life. Everything can be put into context in the papers or in PR. One would have to think what is all the fuss about, such a wonderful family caring and loving. It just goes round and round why should anybody care anymore and maybe we should just accept that this is just a massive soap opera and not real life. The PJ, the public should just leave them to it and not give them any more attention.

Having read the article in Mail on Sunday, and essentially agreeing with Marga, the one additional thing I found very interesting was Justine's admission that Gerry interviewed her in June for the job of Press Spokesperson.

Apparently Gerry flew to London personally in June to interview her for the job.

Now, considering it was just a few short weeks since Madeline had vanished, how did Gerry know that

a) the fund after a handfull of weeks would keep growing and be able to afford someone as highly paid as Posh's ex PR guru?

b) that Madeline was going to be gone long enough to warrant employing a full time person in the first place?

c) Why did he feel the need to fly to London to find someone?

Justine, once again you have opened up an ever bigger can of worms, congratulations!

Thank you for letting us all know about Gerry's initial itinerary requirements....

How long exactly was he distraught with grief?

Sunday April 27 2008

It Is almost a year since Madeleine McCann disappeared without trace from her family's apartment in the small seaside Portuguese town of Praia da Luz.

This weekend the holiday village is quiet and peaceful. The summer has arrived with warm winds and cloudless skies. The sunshine attracts visiting families and young Portuguese teenagers to the famously golden sandy beach. On the surface, things are back to normal; business as usual. However, just the mention of the name "Madeleine" leads to pursed lips, stiffened shoulders and attitudes of angry frustration from the locals.

This week the town is waiting nervously amid rumours that the Portuguese police plan to stage a re-enaction of the events of that night. The McCanns have spoken about their reservations at joining such an endeavour, natural enough for them under the circumstances as they are still official suspects in the case.

The locals, too, are undecided about the merit of such an undertaking. One tells me that the media circus which will inevitably follow such an event will drive away business. others admit that until there is some sort of resolution to the case, their small town will remain a place to be avoided by many holidaying families.

Many are suspicious of journalists and, though ready to chat, reluctant to give their names or anything else which can identify them.

Kelly's Irish Bar, three minutes' walk from the Mark Warner Complex where the McCanns stayed, is -- allegedly -- one of the places visited by Gerry and Kate McCann during their brief stay on the peninsula.

The manager, Mary, is a friendly native of Donegal who has lived in Portugal for the past 20 years. She describes how badly affected the town -- which relies on tourism -- was by Madeleine's disappearance.

"People just packed up and left. They cancelled their holidays and they will never come back. This was always considered to be a very, very safe place for children. I used to let my own boy -- now eight -- walk from here down the road to where his father worked at Chaplin's restaurant. Now, I'm terrified of letting him go anywhere on his own.

"Because there has been no conclusion, because nobody really knows what happened to Madeleine, people will continue to fear for their children. It's a dreadful situation for the town." Mary shares the incomprehension of the locals at the child-minding arrangements that the McCanns and their friends had in place.

"I bring my son everywhere," she tells me. "They could have brought their children with them to Chaplin's or wherever else they wanted to go. Or, even if they didn't want to use the complex's babysitting service, why on earth didn't they just do what you or I would do? Which is take turns minding them.

"People here just don't understand. It's a complete mystery to us."

Recently, details emerged that Madeleine had "scolded her parents" for leaving her and her siblings alone the night before she was abducted.

According to the TV station Telechino, the Portuguese police had taken a statement from Kate McCann soon after the kidnapping where she reportedly said that on the morning of May 3, Madeleine had asked, "Mummy, why didn't you come when we were crying last night?"

Kate McCann reportedly added: "Gerry and I agreed to keep a closer watch over the children."

The Portuguese locals believe that "keeping a closer watch over the children" meant that the McCanns and their friends stayed within the bounds of the complex, checking intermittently on the children -- one of whom (not a McCann) was ill -- when they met later that night, rather than heading to restaurants or bars outside.

Not just here in Luz, but everywhere, that news of the details of that night has travelled. There has been criticism of the McCanns for leaving three small children alone in a strange apartment while they socialised with friends.

"In Portugal, we absolutely adore children," said another local. "We just cannot get our heads around the fact that these small babies were on their own in a town where children are always welcome, no matter what time of night or day."

I tell her that in a documentary due to be screened this week on ITV, Kate McCann is understood to explain that they would have used a baby-listening service had one been available, but because there wasn't they decided instead to leave the children alone and make regular checks on them.

"There was a babysitting facility and an evening creche available, why didn't they use that," she asks.

I have no answer for her, being totally unable to comprehend the McCanns' actions with regard to the welfare of their children.

Some of the locals I spoke to, despite feeling frustrated with the actions of the McCanns, and the unwelcome media attention on their town, still felt sympathy with them for the terrible tragedy which had occurred.

Others are still angry at the way they feel the McCanns manipulated the media and demonised the Portuguese police and, by extension, the Portuguese people.

The collateral damage is everywhere. One Portuguese woman I meet, Mieke, is a close friend of Robert Murat, a man who remains a suspect in the case.

What she and Murat's other friends find very upsetting is the treatment meted out to Robert, whom -- they claim -- was initially asked by the Portuguese police to help them with the case.

"Robert is one of the most caring men I know," Mieke says. "His life has been ruined all because of a chance comment by a journalist. He has been treated like a criminal by the police. His business has been destroyed.

"In his job he would have had many English families as clients. What family would deal with a man who is officially suspected of kidnapping -- or worse -- a child of one of their compatriots?"

Mieke tells me that Murat has now decided to sue the Portuguese government as well as all the media outlets which ran stories against him.

"And I think he's right to do so. Unless they find Madeleine -- either dead or alive -- Robert's name will never be cleared, and there was never a shred of evidence against him in the first place."

One could also argue that both Gerry and Kate McCann -- official suspects who were subjected to intense interrogation -- are in a similar situation. And they also have the loss of a daughter to deal with.

Such a view gets little sympathy from Mieke and her friends.

They do not understand why the McCanns have not been punished for what they see as gross neglect of their children: "If you or I left a child repeatedly alone, social services would be called in."

Later that evening, I watch a fireworks display in the nearby town of Lagos. Despite the late hour -- it is past midnight -- the square is filled with young, excited children enjoying the festivities with their parents.

To the Portuguese people, the fact that the McCanns repeatedly left their much-loved Madeleine alone -- while they socialised with friends -- is just as much a mystery to them as her later disappearance.

It is just not normal is it???

Your last post is exactly what I am thinking.

Milly Dowler was missing for a long time before sadly she was found Murdred and her parents apealed for her the same with every other child that goes missing.

I cant even begin to think how I would feel if either of my children were missing but flying back to England to organise an interview (and did he interview more than one person) would not even enter my head. When ever I interview people it is a time consuming and dificult thing to do I cant imagine having to do so when my child was missing?

And how would he pay them??? She was not useful in finding Madeleine she seemed to speak for them waste of money...

Exactly. What experience in Gerry's fairly short medical career gave him the "expertise" in recruiting someone like Justine McGuiness??

I would be interested to know if this meeting was after they got the hire car and if Gerry flew to London on a private jet?? People flying on private jets invariably do not get a thorough enough body search, if you ask me .....

Joe said...

Turning a bad situation into a profitable enterprise is all that concerned GM it looks like as he sought to get a PR person in June 2007. It looks very cynical. I would not be surprised if its all covered under the UK Official Secrets Act. The next thing will be who is Madeline was it someone we knew?

bath theory said...

Hope , your 9.28 post says it all, very apt.

'...They believe she is still alive yet they never speak to her or about her?'

Any psychologist (including my wife for free!!) will tell you why.

Another thing, if Kate was so fragile in June, why did Gerry think it was perfectly normal to fly to London and leave her behind. A very silly question really, they thought it was o.k. to leave 3 babies on their own, so why should he care what state of mind his wife was in.

Was Kate's input on recruiting Jusine not needed, I guess not...

Joe said...

Who has the foresight to recruit a PR person if one expects a missing child to be found at any minute, dead or alive?

Unless of course if one knew she was never going to be found. A PR person would be vital then to block all questions, hide behind and spin out the developing scenario week by week, as the script is written. Such as it has played out to date.

lizzy said...

Hi
I think that the Mccanns have shown from the outset which way this case would go, from the hiring of Justine Mcguiness to be their Pr spokesperson to the subsequent hiring of Clarrie ex Civil Servant and still with considerable Government contacts, then we have Sheree Dood sent out as special envoy who evidently raised concerns as to the level of Government support these people should be receiving as she felt they were not cooerating fully with the Portuguese police. Her concerns were not taken on board and she was at a later date removed from her position. This excessive amount of Government intervention in this case have clearly affected the outcome. The recent case of Shannon has shown how cases can proceed without Government interference , in the matter of weeks they have charged people with her abduction and perverting the cause of justice.
I believe after months of observing events in this case there will be no charges, and this is entirely due to the interference which has occurred in this case since day one and is still happening,as is proven, in the fact that the Police do still a year on still not have the items they have requested from 3 of the Tapasgroup, their bank statements, phone records. Therefore they are unable to conclude anything without these items. I really hope that I'm wrong in my opinion there will be no charges, but that is the way it looks to me......Lizzy

Stella said...

Joe

This is exactly why so many of us will keep asking questions, will keep annoying them by not going away quietly and will keep on going until the truth finally comes out. All we are interested in is justice for Madeleine. We are not interested in their script as you put it, we want the truth..

bath theory said...

I am off to visit my shed to do some further thinking.

I can confirm it is at the bottom of my garden and although it cannot be seen from my back door if anyone asks I will get the prepared script from my pocket and tell them it can be seen. I will defy reality and pretend that the garage which gets in the way just isn't there.

The important thing to remember is that if anybody points out there is no direct line of site to the shed then I shall

a) Storm off
b) Squeeze my wife's hand to make sure she doesn't agree with them
c) Speak confidently and try not to stratch my ear.

If all else fails .. mention

a) The word ludicrous
b) Get a non PR expert to become one using a magical spell
c) Go jogging with my wife to discuss how we can continue to convince people you can see the shed from our back door.

If all else fails

Get on a plane and leg it.

I agree with you. Maybe Goncalo Amaral knew that politics would ensure this never ever gets to court, so maybe he is taking steps single handedly to ensure that it does.

Viv says the McCann always read from a piece of paper and are not spontaneous. In case we forget the McCann’s have staged and scripted this whole disappearance, everything from about 11pm on 2nd May. When they talk to the press it’s easier for them to read from a professionally written script with plausible untruths. The truth may be delivered more easily but lies cause people to hesitate and search for a decent and conceivable line to spin.

The McCann’s second guessing at what grieving parents of an abduction will do it out of sync with those really facing this type of tragedy. Keeping quite does not fit in with their modus operandi as they feel this is not what parents who have lost their daughter would do.

The McCanns are either victims of an unprecedented injustice, despite help from all quarters, or they have been complicit in the staging of events to conceal their guilt, which is so evil and foul, to have moved one commentator to say even Shakespeare himself could not have written it.

All I can say is out with McBeth and in with McCann as this is surely the production we are seeing played out before us. I for one wait with baited breath for the final scene of this mystery to unfold.

Joe said...

Hi Stella,

I think the only way the truth may come out is if the PJ throw away the secrecy limit. Then sharks, er.. people akin to McCanns will go for the money and the fame and tell all. Play them at their own game IMO . I can guarantee if the price is right they will be queueing to dish the dirt. They do not own the story, they think its exclusively theirs, it is not. Come back Gail Cooper I say.

HI all

Just started to read your comments, yes the need to always have a prepared script, this is a very defensive piece of behaviour which they employed from the very outset.

Marga

I think yout 10.30 post is an excellant piece of work where you are taking many of the self serving comments, apparently written by Justine McGuinness and clearly explaining how attempt is being made to defend Kate and Gerry McCann. As ever, this is what it is about, nothing at all to do with finding Madeleine. As you also set out those comments are so facile they do not defend them at all. E.g. seeking to flag up what a happy family affair meals were, we know just the opposite, the McCanns did not want their children there, again a particularly hopeless piece of "PR" because it goes to the heart of why Madeleine disappeared. Because of what selfish, negligent and uncaring parents they are, who want their me time both day and night. It was also really good to flag up there could have been no paranoia about abduction given they just continued to dump the twins every day with people they would surely have suspected as possibly being involved if they had any genuine belief in a so called abduction. Parents who had genuinely lost a child in this way would have suspected everyone and truly would have been completely paranoid about leaving them again.

Just going to have a read of the rest but wanted to comment on your post because it was so helpful.

Oh Hi Claudia

I think that was a nice thing to do and I can understand your personal need because it has been so insulting to Portuguese people who obviously have great pride in their police force.

I hope you copied across the whole of the thread where we are paying tribute to Goncalo!

Unfortunately, I can also understand your need to moderate comments. Recently I have had about 5 or 6 attempts by Sassy and Co to join this blog and last night they were openly talking about it on their own blog. The need to come and write obscene and offensive rubbish does not leave them. It is within their nature.

Gina said...

Hi Viv, I am not very good at googling seem to go around in circles, but I was just trying to find out just how many children have been abducted and from where. I am talking about abductions in the true sense of the word, not kids taken by one of the parents etc. I wondered if you know the answer to this. The only reason I was checking was because as you know Portugal is getting a bashing at the mo by some as a no go area for holidays etc. but I just have a feeling that the figures (if I could find them) would prove that it is as safe as anywhere (except if you go not watch over your kids whilst there that is)

Anyway they have also said that we are all going to be sued along with because we are official members, so why the hell don't you let them join and they can all come to court with us!!!!

Unknown said...

Hi Claudia

I just tried to post this on your blog but it did not seem to work and I am not sure what I am doing wrong:

Hi Claudia, again as a British Citizen I would like to express how impressed I have been with the Portuguese Police in their dedicated efforts to find out what happened to little Madeleine. I really do understand just how hard they have worked and how distressed they must have been personally at her sad loss.

I am ashamed of the response they have received to this from Kate and Gerry McCann and their media machine who have sought to carry out such a wicked vendetta which has so often been overtly racist.

Universally the Police have a job to do in investigating crime and protecting victims. This is exactly what dedicated officers like Messrs. Amaral, Sousa and Rebelo have been doing. For this they will always have my personal support and respect and I know the vast majority of decent people in the UK and indeed, the world, feel just the same.

We just want to know the truth and want those who have seriously offended against little Madeleine brought to justice. On their own admission Kate and Gerry McCann seriously offended against all three of their little children. The law, universally is there to protect vulnerable little children. The PJ are upholding this and I wish them my very best in their dedicated and painstaking work on everyone's behalf, for little children, our future.

Hi - just clocked in! Well, in fact I clocked in some time ago but it wouldn't take my password! Am I the only one to experience this phenomenon? I had to register again putting in the same password etc and it seems to have worked! It's so frustrating when you spend ages getting a blog right not to be able to send it! Good job I have patience!

I'm sure the continent is one of the safest places for children because it is the habit for continental people always to have their children with them, and the grandparents come to that! They are very gregarious people and are very protective of their own.

I'm sure those people who are regularly in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and France, will know just how true that is! You can take your children anyway and they are made very welcome. In fact I'd go so far as to say I've seen a few Brits a mit miffed when they are eating in a restaurant and Spanish children are making a bit of a hulabaloo!! But they are no nuisance at all to the average Spaniard for instance!

We went to Calpe this morning - lovely there with so many little kids enjoying the beach - I thought of little Madeleine and the fact that she'll probably never see a beach again - all through her parents' neglect - while they are making a name for themselves and plenty of money no doubt, in her name!

No-one will ever convince me they are grieving parents - you can't just turn emotion on and off when your child is missing - it's not humanly possible, unless you are a zombie!

Gina said...

Nancy we are coming up to the silly season again. Next time you go to the beach, see just how many parents are fast asleep while the toddlers play with the sand. Thank god for the lifeguards, but I fear one day on is going to go missing off any beach in any country if some stupid parents but getting a tan before watching the kids. I am amazed it has not happened already.

Cláudia said...

Thank you JJ and all of you who have commented.

Viv, darling, please keep trying. I would love to have your support comment there.

As for the moderation, that was my choice because it is not a blog intended for discussion, as this is, and because I will not tolerate filth there. As you can imagine the second comment I received was from "Rosie I love criminals especially if they hurt children Pops". It was sent to the sewer, where she permanently lives.

Hi Viv -

thanks for your articles today, which have helped us all refresh our memories over intricate details of this case.

Christoper Leake wrote what most of us have thought about - why have the tapas pals gone into their clam shells when all it does it make them look as if they are trying to protect the McCanns and themselves of course.

He made some good points too about the people K&G have had as spokesperson! I suppose you could say that CM has lasted a long time compared Jutine! They probably wanted someone they thought was more believable,i.e. experienced, well known and capable of fooling some people, but not all of them fortunately! CM I think is gradually reaching his sell by date too after a few clangers he's dropped! Just why do they need a spokesperson if they are innocent -it's all a complete nonsense - they are professional people and must have had to speak publicly in their professions!

I'm not really looking forward to following the 'two stars' around on their ITV appearance on Wednesday - there'll be more blame heaped on the PJ's no doubt, and lots of prepared weeping and wailing to try and fool the public! Perhaps it's all about filling up the coffers again! Perhaps they may even mention Madeleine this time!

Justice for Madeleine can't come quickly enough!!

nancy said...

Hello ALL

Just had a quick read back and Gina's post caught my eye and I see I am going to be sued for being a member of a site and having an opinion.

Bloody hell I did not realise I had moved to another country Freedom of Speach is something that was fought long and hard for by our Grandparents and Great Grandparents and now we are no longer allowed to say that Two selfish parentes were wrong to leave thier children alone and soemthing is strange as they dont want to help the PJ by refusing to answer questions.

I am just watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition (and am in tears again) this one is about a family whos house was destroyed by a tornado the mother threw herself over her two young sons and as a result they survived but she will be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. They said she was a Hero and she said....

"NO I was just protecting my children and thats what Mum's do you dont even have to think about it."

What a lady and her words were so true.

One comment I just cannot get out of my mind is what Kate said after hearing Madeleine's comment about them not coming to them when they were crying.

"Gerry and I agree to keep a closer watch on the children"!!

Was that a joke or something? That same night they went out, alright to a somewhat nearer venue, but too far away it seems to have prevented an 'predator' taking Madeleine!!

And she is spoken of by friends and family as a 'caring' mother!

I would never leave children alone in bed in the first place, but I sure as damn it wouldn't go out again after knowing they were crying for me the night before.

If they are caring parents, then I'd hate to meet the uncaring ones!!

Both these parents are equally to blame, and so are their friends who did the same and they are all too ashamed to come forward and admit it!

Unknown said...

Hiya Nancy

and good to read you again. I think the reaction we saw from the TAPAS group was completely bizarre and the exact opposite to what we would have seen, had Madeleine genuinely been abducted. They would have been unstoppable in telling us precisely why this is the case and in loudly pointing out how wrong the police are. Wanting to go completely silent is what very guilty people do, they have nothing good or helpful to say to help find little Madeleine, sadly, they know she will never come back. Their silence is wicked.

Nancy IMO the tapas group appear to be getting away with this very lightly because as you they all did the same, left their kids. I know Claudia explained that it is a more serious offence if harm actually comes to the child as a result of this, but even so the rest of the group are not getting so many bad comments in the press (on the odd occasion they have the guts to mention the fact)

I know you are on the shelf about what happened to Madeleine, and I was for quite a long time, but to be quite honest having seen what has gone on this past year and what we have seen and heard, I am sure it was an accident and they have covered it up to save their own skins and of course their family and professional lives!

But, if it was an abduction, then it could have been any of the children left that night, so they should all be thanking their lucky stars that their children are safe and well!

It makes you wonder what these children will say when they are older and know that 'there but for the grace of God.....'!

Unknown said...

Hiya Hope

I too hope no one was hurt but there have been some terrible accidents on that road and it happens so often so when I hear sirens going in that direction I always fear the worse. I do not know why they do not put warning signs up or something or even restrict the speed. It is a fairly country type of road but still a main route.

However, what went on since the child went missing, with the necessity to call the media before the police and so on and so on absolutely appauls me

Hiya Nancy

He is clearly not a stupid person and has previously worked reporting serious murder cases such as the Wests. He clearly has the intellect to know that what he spouts on behalf of the McCanns is "quite frankly ludicrous". Some prisoners who like to make false libel claims and have an unnatural affection for money sit and write their memoirs in their prison cell, Lord Archer got a false payout from the Daily Express, just like Kate and Gerry McCann and then sat in his cell writing about it so he could cash in on his release. I see Kate and Gerry continue to follow the example he set. Their choice!

Hi all,

Daily Mail
The couple's spokesman Clarence Mitchell said they wanted to raise money for the dwindling Find Madeleine appeal fund, and to counter a campaign of smears from inside the police investigation.
CM insisted any money raised by a would go to the Find Madeleine fund, and not to the McCanns themselves.

They say that whatever money they get, will go into the fund, why don't they say it's going sraight to their personal expenses

Double standards from Pinky here, saying A.Goncalo should not make money from Madeleine,is that not what Mc's have done from day one Pinky.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below?

Even if they give all of the money to the Find Madeline account, they shouldn't be allowed to profit from the case while they are still considered suspects.

I think the prospects of Pinkie finishing up in a cell are pretty remote, he is cashing in on the McCanns and their despicable behaviour, that might be downright immoral but it is not downright illegal. There could be a case against him for seeking to pervert the course of justice but I think it is unlikely to be pursued because he is not a principal offender in the events on 3 May. However, there is a good argument for saying he should be prosecuted because he has undoubtedly impeded the course of justice and the law obviously seeks to punish and deter such behaviour. Somehow though there is always a decision taking about where do you draw the line. Investigating is very expensive, getting the right people has to be prioritised. A decision would have to be taken about the pros and cons of going against Pink. Getting hard evidence against him would be very time consuming and difficult and as I say, he is not directly involved in the loss of Madeleine which is the overwhelming thing the police will want to deal with.

There is no criminal offence of being highly immoral and repugnant!

Still, he's worth suing - just to set the record straight, in due course, imo. Even if he remains a wage slave, like he is now.

As far as I know, criminal charges can be heard in a court of law in Portugal even in the absence of the defendants.

The re-enactment proposed by the PJ is standard police procedure in some parts of the world, e.g. the UK.

Only the McCanns PR stunts and political/media contacts have distracted public attention from the simple truth of this case: the McCanns and some of their friends are suspect in the 'disappearance' of Madeleine; they are subject to ongoing police inquiry; they deserve NO special treatment by the public or anyone else.

I suspect that the police know that, and act on that, in the best interests of one victim: Madeleine, dead aged 3.

PR is black and white; the simple contrasts projected by stupid apparatchiks, like the McCann Machine of media manipulators. They want to think that their clients, and those they wish to influence, are dim wits, only capable of simple 'black and white'.

As most responsible adults know, life exists in the grey area; the debatable area.

Mercifully, we have laws and common sense to shine a clear light on extreme bad behaviour - e.g. educated doctors at the bar night after night, leaving babies alone and defenceless in a foreign country; same doctors lying about the circumstances of what happened to Madeleine Beth McCann.

Now, why would they do that? A court will decide, in due course, imo. Libel court. Criminal court. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn :-)

I despise bare faced liars, lying over the body of children and public trust.

Hiya all

I am now back from my walk, the last bit of which gave me a bit of a soaking but it was still nice:-)

I see there has been a discussion about the reconstruction and the actual prosecution of the McCanns in a Portuguese court of law.

There is a conflict in relation to the proposed reconstruction. The McCanns argue this would incriminate them and so as arguidos they say it would be unfair to them to actually be forced to provide evidence against themselves. This is true. It is up to the prosecutor to prove their case. The major problem for the McCanns of course is this, if they were innocent and genuinely believed Madeleine had been abducted they could have no reason to refuse to take part in a reconstruction. In fact they would be only too happy to do so, because it could give the PJ fresh leads to work on to seek her abductor. So, their refusal in itself is evidence against them. I understand that in Portuguese law, as arguidos they could be forced to comply but I am not sure the PJ would do this, even if that is correct, because they have won by offering the McCanns this chance to prove their innocence, which they have refused, demonstrating their guilt. Winning a legal case can be as much about tactics and effective use of procedures as the hard evidence itself, as this so clearly demonstrates.

So far as them actually standing trial. There is simply no question of them being allowed to refuse to appear and the trial going ahead in their absence, they would be arrested and taken there under European Arrest Warrant. The only time a trial goes ahead in the absence of a defendant is when they have disappeared.

Finally, we should not lose sight of the fact they just could face trial in UK but I think this is very unlikely.

£51K FOR 89 DAYS WORK ..GERRY HIT THE ROOF!
EXCLUSIVE MISSING MADDIE: McCANNS' FURY AT PR'S HUGE BILL £350-a-day press expert charged £20k for over time, booze and meals Family's outrage over drain on fund to find missing Maddie
By Jeff Pickett
Anguished Gerry McCann sensationally split from the expert masterminding the worldwide hunt for his missing daughter Madeleine after she put in a whopping £20,000 overtime and expenses bill.

Press and PR chief Justine McGuinness charged Gerry and wife Kate £51,000 for 89 days' work.

Her basic fee was £350 a day, making a total of £31,000.

And the rest was made up in overtime payments and expenses - including bar and restaurant bills.

Gerry, 39, lost his rag when he was told the Find Madeleine fund would have to foot the bill.

And McGuinness, 37, parted company with the family after a showdown with Gerry.

A source close to the family said last night: "Everyone at the fund was happy with the way Justine handled herself and the PR. She did a brilliant job.

"But there was a debate over her overtime and expenses bill which came as a surprise to Gerry. He hit the roof.

"He couldn't believe Justine's expenses and overtime were as high as £20,000 for the time she'd been in Portugal.

"She claimed overtime for nights when she had been out drinking and eating with journalists and other people over there.

"Justine was well paid by the fund on a day rate but claimed overtime too along with expenses.

"The family expected her day fee to cover EVERYTHING.

"Then the extra bills came in on top of this and there was a great deal of surprise within the fund."

The source went on: "The fund's managers were completely taken aback when she lodged the claim and immediately phoned Gerry.

"He then spoke to her about it. As part of the agreement to part company he said he would not publicise details of the rift. Kate and Gerry put out a statement thanking her for all her work on the campaign.

"But Gerry was livid because her expenses drained the fighting fund of a chunk of money intended to help find Madeleine."

McGuinness - who stood as a Lib Dem candidate at the 2005 General Election - was headhunted in June to help the McCanns' crusade to find four-year-old Maddie.

She was picked because of her political background.

And she acted as a spokeswoman and organiser of events to keep the campaign in the news.

Her efforts included getting celebrity backers such as England soccer idol David Beckham and Manchester United's Portuguese maestro Cristiano Ronaldo.

She also organised interviews and photocalls with the couple.

McGuinness advised Gerry and GP Kate, 39, on their audience with the Pope.

And she encouraged cardiologist Gerry to go to Washington in July to learn about the latest techniques for tracing missing kids.

But some critics warned she was making the campaign too much of a slick PR operation. And there were new concerns when when Portuguese police made Kate an official suspect.

The source said: "The McCanns hired a campaigns expert rather than someone to defend their reputations if things went awry.

"Once the Portuguese started pointing the finger at Kate things had to change."

McGuinness disputes the amounts involved. Last night she defended the payments and said: "I parted on good terms with Kate and Gerry and I regard them as my friends.

"They made it very clear to me that they were happy with the work I did." She added: "I sincerely hope Madeleine is found and I wish the McCanns well."

McGuinness quit on September 15 and was replaced by ex-Cabinet Office aide Clarence Mitchell, 46.

Hiya Dolores

Thanks for such a good article.

It really does raise the question, why do we have this piece apparently written by Justine McGuinness right now given the very bad terms she parted company with the McCanns on.

Did they beg her to put her name to it with a huge offer of cash, or did she volunteer for a huge pot of cash?

Either way it only serves to exemplify she is a cash strapped looser with low morals just like the McCanns who are now very desperate indeed for quite obvious reasons.

Anyhow, my friend now thinks differently.

Press on, Joe. No surrender. The crime committed against Madeleine is great, and affects the fate of every child in the UK, imo.

Justice. Fairness. Children deserve this, 'whoever it hurts', as the PJ said recently, and have no doubt, the British Police and child protection agencies agree.

Portuguese Police Reportedly Have Evidence to Charge Kate McCann in Daughter's Death

This is a rush transcript from "The Big Story With John Gibson," September 10, 2007. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

JOHN GIBSON, "BIG STORY" HOST: A shocker in the Madeleine McCann case: manslaughter. Little Madeleine's very own mother can now reportedly be charged in the death of the missing 4-year-old.

Kate McCann is in the spotlight tonight. The London Times is reporting that investigators in Portugal think they have enough evidence to charge her with murder by failing to prevent Madeleine's death. In the U.K., that is the same as manslaughter. She could also reportedly face charges of concealing Madeleine's body.

Both official suspects in the case, Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, are back at home in the U.K. waiting to hear from the Portuguese police, who say they're about to hand over the case to prosecutors.

With me now is Sarah Baxter with The Times of London and former LAPD homicide detective and FOX News contributor Mark Fuhrman.

Sarah, if I can ask you first, what is your reaction to this news among the McCanns' countrymen?

SARAH BAXTER, TIMES OF LONDON: Shock and disbelief, really. They were very critically of the McCanns originally for leaving Maddy unattended in their apartment, in their hotel room. But after that there was huge sympathy for the McCanns as being punished way too harshly for an oversight. The thought, though, that they themselves were responsible for their own daughter's death and then dumping her body somewhere, that justifies the least. That would put them in the annals of crime along with Jack the Ripper.

GIBSON: You know, Mark, I know from the beginning when we talked about this case, as a former police detective you said you've got to look at what the Portuguese have to suspect the mother. Is that enough?

MARK FUHRMAN, FORMER LAPD DETECTIVE: Well, John, I think it's not only enough, it's far more than a lot of these cases have. And they actually do take them to prosecutors. And they actually do take them to a jury, and they're convicted.

You see that the parents are posturing themselves in certain ways. And I'll tell you, John, when I heard that Kate McCann, when she is confronted by the police detectives, when they ask her or they tell her that they found blood in the bedroom, Madeleine's blood in the bedroom, not just blood, she doesn't refute it. She is in shock. She doesn't say it's impossible. She doesn't say where. She says, "Well she could have had a cut or a nosebleed."

Now what person on this planet wouldn't have known if her 4-year-old would have had a nosebleed or a cut? I mean, that, to me, corroborates the blood, and she can't say anything else. And she doesn't.

GIBSON: Sarah, the other piece of evidence that they're going on is apparently an allegation that they found blood in a rental car that the McCanns were using. You know, that's pretty strong evidence that something went on, isn't it?

BAXTER: Well...

GIBSON: It is because — hang on, Mark. Sarah, you first.

BAXTER: Yes, well, as far as I understand it, some of Maddy's DNA was found in the trunk of the rental car. This was 25 days after she'd disappeared, so it's slightly extraordinary on the face of it. It implies that the parents might have taken Madeleine's body from where it was originally dumped, placed it in the car, driven off, then dumped it somewhere else before flying off to see the pope.

But if there was DNA there, some people are saying that, well, perhaps, it's because it's similar to her siblings. It's similar to her parents. It's very fragmentary. Although there are new allegations, some sources that came in say it's a full DNA match with Maddy's blood. So we're going to wait and see about that. That would be very interesting and significant.

GIBSON: Mark, you know, the police in Portugal are really frustrated, and there is killing, terrorism and all of that. Isn't there at least a suspicion on your part that they may be looking for somebody easy to accuse since they haven't found somebody hard?

FUHRMAN: No, absolutely not, John. I think they have done something that I have had a lot of respect for. They conducted the investigation. They looked for outside possibilities of a kidnapping, because they had two parents that looked very credible and making statements that they were at dinner. So they went and they did what they were supposed to do.

They did the investigation in the room. They couldn't find anything outward, and this is very important, John. So they went and looked for suspects. They didn't see anything, any forced entry, anything like this. They didn't find any blood.

They go back and they look at this with sniffer dogs, basically cadaver dogs. They find blood. Now, this is the most important part, John. They don't see the blood. The dogs smell the blood. That means that somebody had to clean up the blood. Well, if it wasn't a maid, if it wasn't a 4-year-old child, then who was it? And if you don't have a parent that says they cleaned up any blood, you've got a problem.
GIBSON: Mark Fuhrman and Sarah Baxter, thanks to both of you.

That confirms 2345s simple argument agains the McCann Machine of media manipulators: simple, honest police inquiry has uncovered the sad truth about 'missing' Maddie.

Now, it is all about proof for court. That's all it is. The truth is known to some.

The McCanns and their sympathisers are using sophisticated, expensive tactics to evade criminal court.

Now, libel court...that's harder to evade, imo.

ta ra said...

Quite right, Joe. Time for action. Seen Lizzy's post? That's where the action is, imo.

Acquiring enough proof for court. Failing that, provoking liars into libel court.

Evening everyone,

Team McCann is trying, with all the forms to attack, again, Portugal and especially the PJ.
I found an article from "The Times”, where Sir Mark Williams-Thomas, a former "detective", do, one more time, a tremendous attack on the PJ´s work.
What a shame that he only talks to protect a child neglecters parents, but he forgot to say that the PJ is not alone in this investigation, the British police is also helping!
He elaborates a tremendous theory of what had happen, in Praia Da Luz on May the 3rd , to Madeleine. He is so smart that I find strange that with all his intelligence, has not yet found the little one! How had not, the McCanns, hired him instead of Retardo3?
I, for once, will light a candle on the May the third, at my window between 7pm and 10pm, and I will pray for the soul of Madeleine McCann hoping that she rests in peace, and hoping that she stands next to some kind of Angel!

A candle for Madeleine´s soul!
