As you can understand, I can't do any comment about the investigation on the "McCann Case"... (I have omitted the next part, in the interests of privacy but this did not in any way compromise the judicial secrecy laws)Looking towards my freedom of speech, I asked for my retirement last month.
All the insults, false accusations and lie's from the past year are now being brought to court from my lawyers (the very last one is from Daily Mail, yesterday).
I would like to say thank you to the thousands of persons that every day, for the last year, are supporting me all over the world. I would like to answer all the phone calls, emails and letters, but is not possible...there are so many!
As you can imagine, most of the days are not that easy, and these messages have been a great support not only for me, but also for my family. Once again, thank you all!

I am sick of hearing Rachael Oldfield speaking on BBC news/radio, yet unless I missed it, nothing on ITV lunchtime news.
I have just rung the BBC inquiry line and spoken to a nice chap called Christopher who has logged my complaint and will send it out to all BBC editors apparently.
I made the point that a lot of bias and unbalanced reporting has happened with this case and that the bottom line is a 3yr old girl has gone missing and much of the general public wants this investigated fully. We wish to see balanced and reasoned argument/debate not just a paid member of their clan or a close family member or friend chosen to speak without a counter point heard.

I do not know. Although I believe that it is suggested from reading forums etc, that the PJ are looking at the time line 6pm - 8.30pm of that evening. I think we will have to be patient. I have not heard the RO interview and do not intend to listen to it or her mates who are on tonight. Any time I hear any of them I just think what a load of arrogant, ignorant people they are. Hmmm just like some on a certain blog.

I seem to be missing the point. Why is Goncalo Amaral’s retirement so important. This to me is like many things in this case it can be read a number of ways both positive and negative. I may well have missed something so could anyone enlighten me?
They way I see it Di is that is makes no different if it was recorded before or after the PJ's statement re the leaks, she has accused them without being able to prove her statement. Anyway, Clarence could have pulled the programme I would have thought. It just seems very odd to me that people like her are speaking out now and at the same time saying the are were not allowed to speak out, if you see what I mean.

Just had a quick look on the mccannfiles, as you suggested, and Goncalo Amaral had to deal with the insults in the British press plus lack of support from his own police heirachy. At the moment he has charges hanging over his head which probably could be fought better as a civilian rather than a police officer. His early retirement means because he hasn’t served the requisite number of years he does not get a full pension but only 60%. However, there is a window of opportunity for him to make a killing (financially) with his inside information and he will surely take that opportunity to recompense his reduction in pension.

I live in the Northeastern US, where the NY Times is delivered to everyone's door. Still, I often read the BBC and Guardian online, because I find their reporting to be really hard hitting.
For the past year, I thought this case would be an investigative reporter's dream, as we had with Watergate in the 70's (Huge mess uncovered by two reporters).

Kate and Gerry McCann deny any wrongdoing
A friend of Madeleine McCann's parents has publicly criticised the Portuguese police for leaking information about the inquiry into the missing child.
Rachael Oldfield, who was with Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leics, when their daughter disappeared last May, said there had been "double standards".
Witnesses had to remain silent, while Portuguese newspapers carried stories sourced to police, she told the BBC.
The McCanns remain arguidos - suspects - but deny any wrongdoing.
Mrs Oldfield is a member of the so-called "Tapas Seven" - friends of the McCanns who dined with them in a tapas restaurant on the night their three-year-old daughter disappeared during a family holiday on the Algarve.
In her first interview since Madeleine went missing, she said: "We were made to understand we could face two years in prison for speaking out, so as a group we've not said anything from day one.
"And there have been all these rumours flying around and leaks from sources close to the PJ [the Policia Judiciaria - Portuguese police]."

'No communication'
Mrs Oldfield said it had been "agonising" to watch the McCanns' reaction when Madeleine went missing from a ground floor apartment in Praia da Luz on 3 May 2007.
"Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to see they couldn't have done it," she said.
She added that lifting the arguido status on Mr and Mrs McCann would "enable the investigation to move forward and certainly it would enable [them] to work more closely with the PJ".
It is almost a year since Madeleine McCann's disappearance
"Currently they don't really have any communication with the PJ which, when they're investigating the disappearance of their daughter, is quite astounding."
Mr McCann told BBC Radio 4 that he and his wife received so little information, that they were unsure Portuguese police were still searching for their daughter.
He added: "We would like to know what is being done to find Madeleine.
"We'd like know who has been eliminated from the inquiry and on what grounds and what leads are still being followed.
"We've always said we want to leave no stone unturned and to do that we need to know which stones have already been overturned."
Secret files
The Tapas Seven are regarded by Portuguese police as important witnesses in the Madeleine investigation. None of them has been made a formal suspect and all have co-operated willingly and voluntarily with the investigation.
Separately, a senior figure in Portugal with direct knowledge of the investigation has told a BBC Radio 4 documentary there is only a slim chance of murder or manslaughter charges being filed against Kate and Gerry McCann or Robert Murat, the third arguido.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, insisted all lines of inquiry remain open, including the original theory that Madeleine was abducted.
Mr Murat was made a suspect after Mrs Oldfield and two other members of the Tapas Seven - Russell O'Brien and Fiona Payne - said they saw him in the Praia da Luz complex during the evening Madeleine disappeared.
Mr Murat denies he was there, and maintains he was at home with his mother all night.
Portuguese police are now coming under pressure to make public the case files which, under judicial secrecy laws, currently remain closed.
The President of the Portuguese Order of Lawyers, Antonio Marinho e Pinto, told the BBC: "There are strong reasons to fear that judicial secrecy is being used... to conceal the fact that the police have gone down a blind alley and don't have a way out."

I have sent this or something similar to several media organisations today.
I would like to make the point that in my opinion a lot of bias and unbalanced reporting has happened with this case especially in the print and broadcast media and that the bottom line is a 3yr old girl has gone missing and I along with the majority of the general public want this case investigated fully.
I believe the majority of the public feel uncomfortable with the perceived inconsistencies and find something odd in the couple concerned.

A 3yr old girl vanished and statistically speaking it is highly likely that a parent or friend or closely related known person to the girl is involved.
Thus, a countervoice is very much required. It is a known strategy that opinions get dressed up as facts when one wants to persuade people to a given point of view. The McCann view is nearly always not counterpointed.
If ...... is a professional and balanced news organisation then please start to show more of the argument as to why the majority of the general public want this couple investigated & asked more probing and direct questions.

I received a response from another London MEP today regarding my complaints to them about the McCann's talking at Brussels re: the amber alert. A classic case of missing the point as my complaint was not about the concept of amber alert but how unsuitable this couple are to speak about this alert when they are suspects in the disappearance of their own daughter! Oh, and some (most) of us are careful. Sheesh.

Whatever our personal views of the situation surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann may be, we should all remember that they are haunted by the loss of their daughter and deserve our sympathy. Their presence at the European Parliament last week has done much to highlight the campaign for a Europe-wide alert system for missing children, which many parents have been calling for. If Madeleine's disappearance makes us all a little more careful with our own children and helps parents whose children have been abducted across borders then at least some good will have arisen from this awful experience. I disagree Claudia. The point I make is this. Truth is a subjective word but in a courtroom it is FACTS that are looked at and disected . Therefore for me I am not replacing the words that he has said but the relevance becomes fully apparent if you read it with the word FACT instead of truth.
In other words the enormity of the quote becomes apparent. Indeed that is why I posted it as soon as I saw it and am proud of my scoop. But only if his words are real and have come from him.

Goncalo Amaral tells us we will all know the truth about the lie. Like all things surrounding this case it is enigmatic statement. Does he mean the truth can be proven in court, therefore, we will all know about it soon. Does he mean when he is no longer a police officer he will tell all or is that just his hopes on the final outcome of this tragedy.

Forgive me posters I have been a bit grumpy today. I am shocked at the BBC giving these people who are Arguidos, and the BBC knows full well what that means, allowing these people to speak on the airwaves despite their status. Its one thing R Oldfield speaking as she is not an Arguido but the other two. They must have some well placed friends.
The second thing that I have noticed is the immaturity of the Tapas 9 in thinking that they could leave their children,not wear watches or phones, go to dinner like pals, getting each other to check their children......total silly immature individuals, like a childish club on holiday. They should all grow up. When my children were small, lunch, dinner or whatever meal was often a rushed job whilst caring for the children and my wife and I always but always put them first, thats the way it should be.

SERGEI MALINKA is said to be preparing libel actions against British and Portuguese newspapers in connection with the Madeleine case.
According to Portuguese daily newspaper Metro, the Russian citizen will ask for payouts of 50,000 euros from each newspaper.
The number and the names of the newspapers were not revealed and the information could not be confirmed with Mr Malinka by the time The Resident went to press.

IMO listen service to small children is a kind of legal neglect. Small children need an adult next to them all the time, not all 20 minutes or so... they can awake and feel afraid , have a night malre or wander, fell.......

We came back to Sweden a few weeks ago and like you I have no idea where this year has gone. Anyway, we had a wonderful time downunder but I can tell you that the kids love to be home again (with friends and even school!!!). So everything is really just great. I hope it's the same for you (with exception for your stupid tooth of course).

Our press is terible it slates everyone and some of the worse papers pull someones life apart before they have been found guilty or because they have made a mistake.
This is one of the strange things about this sad case the press have behaved in a totaly diffrent way and they would not normaly do this the neglect would be enough to set them slating and if there was a wiff of her not really being taken they would have gone through their dirty laundry but nothing.
Now I would be really pleased if this was a new trend by our press but it is not it seems for some reason they are protected.
I dont buy papers they are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Radio 4 programme is doing what the press does these days. Trying to make something appear balanced but it is using words from the McCann side to dominate. And of course subtle intonation changes.
Of course people were thinking about the McCann's as suspects early on. But it is about getting evidence isn't it. Implying it was only August before people were thinking about them as maybe being involved.

All depending on when this interview took place, but if McCann is still citing JT and her sighting of the bundleman carrying a child in pajamas then it is unlikely IMO that JT changed her story in the recent interviews?
Gerry's answer of 'I think she is probably alive' is so detached from reality.(IMO)
I would expect a loving parent to speak directly to their daughter in the hope she hears it or one day returns to hear it.
In other words (IMO) once again he has trouble in speaking about Madeleine directly. Preferring to call her 'she.'
Indeed, you surely would say something like 'I want to believe Madeleine is alive and will do so until the day I die' if you had any sort of fatherly instinct and love for your missing child. In fact your heart would be so broken you could not deliver it in a monotone voice.
Just finished listening to the radio programme.
No searching questions were put to Gerry or Rachel Oldfield on this programme! They certainly didn't put them on the spot, but just let them talk and listened without comment. It was a complete whitewash in my opinion.
Kate wasn't there, surprise, surprise, but we did hear her pretending to cry when she was in Portugal just after Madeleine disappeared, which convinces me even more that she was not the grieving mother she pretended to be. It's very easy to tell when someone is trying to cry but can't - she certainly didn't fool me and neither did Gerry's remarks about how they still believe that Madeleine is alive! The now want to see that every stone is overturned!! New catchphrase!
Rachel Oldfield said they were absolutely appalled at the blogging that's been going on about the case! If it had all been in their favour of course that would be alright!
By the sound of it K&G won't going back for the reconstruction! They think they could possible be jailed for abandonment.
To be quite honest nothing was said we didn't already know - I don't believe a word of what any of the tapas 9 say - none of them sound genuine to me!
As usual everything is the PJ's fault!! Gerry said they wouldn't leave their other children alone now, but really didn't think they were doing everything wrong, and Kate insists that many people have written to her telling them that they have done the same thing 100 times! Believe that and you'll believe anything!
As usual the BBC are on the McCann's side, that's obvious, and are definitely trying to put the PJ's in a bad light. They are definitely considered to be the baddies in all of this.
Gerry kept on about the PJ's not looking for Madeleine; when did Gerry and Kate every look for themselves; too busy jogging and playing tennis!

If the pyjamas convinced him? In other words it is also true when she described the clothes eggman was wearing they were an exact match to his own,so does that mean he must be the 'abductor'
It was many days before her description was given to PJ, she could have been told by K or G what Madeleine was wearing.And in a reconstruction, she would never be able to pick out colours, under sodium vapour lighting,which give of a yellow tint.

Hi Nancy, I said I wouldn't but in the end I did, listen to the programme that is. My opinion of it was, it will probably make people who have not been following this case think they are totally innocent because it did also give comments from the Portuguese side and none of them were pointing towards charges being made.
However, those of us who have been following the case would have asked more probing questions and would not have settled for the arguidos storming off in a huff before answering them.
Actually I think the McCanns are androids, they seem to lack emotion and reality to the situation. Gerry thinks Madeleine is still alive, ok let us presume she is, but as they think it was ok to leave the kids to all kinds of danger I wonder if they have the slightest notion what state she will be in by now if she has been being abused for a year. Unless of course they know where she is and they know she is in safe hands!!!!
It is obvious that all G wants, is to get his hands on the police files, he is desperate to see what he is up against,he hates the fact that someone has what he thinks he is entitled to.It is eating him up ,as he constantly goes on about it.
And the other lie lift the arguido status and we will comply.Who does he think he is fooling.Can he not comply regardless. I thought blackmail was a crime !!

As I said before I wouldn't trust any of them - Gerry sounds as though he's reading his words of a blackboard - no feeling whatsoever in them!

They are going to stick together no matter what. I do not think GM would have said about the JT sighting again if he knew she had changed her story, unless he assumes she did not. They must ne having a great laugh at all this and the fame they have, must feel so important.... untouchable. He can go on BBC radio but could not talk to the PJ.....

GM is a control freak. It eats him up, as you rightly said, to know what the PJ have. It is the one thing that so far he cannot control and part of him thinks it is going to bite him any day. If he had co-operated then he might be the wiser.

I'm glad you listened too,its always good to get different views. Yes, there was a comment from one of the Portuguese legal bods who said that without a body it was very unlikely that any of the 3 arguidos would be charged. I read that on the McCann files the other day. Remember Gerry's chilling comment - "find her body and prove it"!
As you say, people who haven't really studied every facet of this case and listening to that report will feel only sympathy for the McCanns and, in my opinion, that was what it was all about!!

I forgot to say that I agree with your last paragraph about 'safe hands' - They seem convinced she will just turn up, so it is certainly something to think about! Kate found Madeleine very difficult to manage, so there is always the possibility she is safe with someone they know for instance! But then what about the forensic evidence?

The problem is, as I see it, that because the PJ are saying nothing there is nothing to set the records straight. The above statement is a bit crazy really because even if we assume the PJ are up a blind alley they know they cannot stay up it for ever so I would have thought prolonging the inevitable is pointless. I still do not think any charges will be made but I could be very wrong

He says in PT no body is req to charge also the trial can go ahead without them being there and if my memory serves me well an EAW can be issued to get them to return to PT after the trial. I just saw your blog. Yes, that was the chap I was talking about - as you can see he's a lawyer and having worked for many of them, they are not exactly police lovers! There is always this business of I'm a lawyer and your just a policeman mentality about them! I think the PJ's, are sticking to their secrecy rules and nothing is going to make them say something they don't want to until they are good and ready.
The bottom line is Kate and Gerry should co-operate with the PJ's - something you and I have been saying for ages, and then they can at least say they have done all they can to assist. I think Kate is a bit of a shrinking violet and Gerry makes the decisions there.

Until the evidence is shoved in their faces that contradicts everything they say they will continue to talk about an abductor, thats the only way for them. As I said earlier today justice is not always a reality and they are not content to just leave the PJ do the job and file charges IF there is enough evidence. Instead they pursue a campaign of spin and subterfuge. As long as the Arguido status tag is there it will not allow them to pursue an even wider agenda.

I see what you mean, and think you may well be right, however, this sad case moved beyond criminal law last year. Libel court is a nasty place for nasty people. I believe that the vanity of the McCanns and their holiday friends will be provoked into libel court, against their will, IF they escape criminal court.

Do we really think that vain people who escape criminal justice will depart the stage quietly; be grateful for their lucky escape; shut their traps?

GM though IMO as I do not know the man, will not be satisfied if there is no charges laid or insufficient evidence he will continue to persuade us all that an abductor took Madeline as he has to be right, his way or no way.

It's all been seen, and exposed long before those boys from nowhere reading books like 'No Stone Unturned' (Gerry's holiday reading) or those boys and girls came up with trite words like the 'Commentariat' - that's people like you, Joe, and others who make comments in the media or blogs. It's a word sold by Julia Hobsbawn, PR pal of Gordon Brown's wife. They think they can tell you what to think; influence your opinion.
They are having a tough time now ahead of the May 1st UK elections, and ahead of the awkward truth pursued by the Portuguese Police, assisted by their British colleagues, Interpol, and child protection agencies.
Poor them. They are poor in character, and they will be poor financially before this is over. THIS being pursuit of truth for Madeleine Beth McCann, left alone in a foreign apartment with her siblings aged 2, while her parents and their friends went to the bar, leaving ALL their children at the mercy of fate.
