MCCANNS DEMAND POLICE INTERVIEW "THEIR" WITNESSES

In an interesting report from The Times it would seem that Dr Rebelo and two others are only interested in overseeing the re-interviewing of the TAPAS 7 and will then return to Portugal. Meanwhile British Police will proceed to interview other witnesses who it would seem the McCanns suggest could prove their innocence presumably they number 23. Apparently, it is their right as Arguidos to demand this! All at the taxpayers expense..maybe they should foot the bill out of their "damages"..

It will be very interesting to hear who all these witnesses are that Kate and Gerry have demanded be interviewed and how many of them have been paid by newspapers to "tell their story" etc. I recall the two female tennis playing friends of Gerry's being splashed across the Daily Mail, did they do this for nothing. Clarence Mitchell also admitted Metodo 3 had paid witnesses. Official police witnesses do not get paid for their story, this would hardly serve the interests of justice and a search for the truth.

There is only one comment on The Times article but I would echo was Chris from London says, if these witnesses can prove their innocence why have they not been to the Police before now? He also speaks of all the lies that have been told and no one seems to have a voice for Madeleine. I believe the Police do have a voice for Madeleine and the truth will come out. I wonder how The Times knows TAPAS will not be made arguidos, surely that is a matter for the Portuguese Judge when Dr Rebelo and his team report back to him..

The article is misleading is seeking to suggest all witnesses being interviewed could prove the innocence of Kate and Gerry McCann. This is clearly not the intention of the Police in RE interviewing the TAPAS 7 three of whom have already been re-interviewed in July 2007 when they were recalled to Portugal. Fiona Payne, Rachel Oldfield and Dr O'Brien who claimed they saw Murat hanging around immediately after Madeleine's disappearance. The Police organised a "confrontation" between them and Murat and carefully studied this, no doubt to establish where the truth lay. They clearly remain dissatisfied with these witnesses but have now eliminated Murat as a suspect as The Times confirm at the foot of their article.

I think it is highly unlikely the McCanns will get to see the case against them on 14 April. As this report confirms secrecy of justice could be extended indefinitely, for as long as it takes really, until police can bring charges against them. In UK it is not unheard of for police to suspect murderers for 15 years and hold the case on police files, pending further evidence. I remember one husband who had dumped his wife in the lake, I cannot remember how many years later, somewhere between 15 and 30 they found that body and he got what he deserved.

Clarence can continue to suggest, as he does, that somehow their arguido status is preventing the search for Madeleine. Clearly it is not and the Find Maddie Fund is being heavily dissipated upon this propaganda. Whether they are charged or not in the immediate future, and I still think they will be, I do not believe for one moment the McCanns will ever lose their status as prime suspects. It is a matter of evidence, to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, but as the police always say in such cases "we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter". They know where the evidence has taken them.

Mr Mitchell said: "We would hope that the police will do the decent and proper thing and open up the files.
"I would go further than that, and say once they have completed the interviews with the the friends, they should go back to Portugal and assess the evidence and eliminate Kate and Gerry and allow everyone once again to concentrate on the search for Madeleine."

It is not the decent thing to open up the files to a couple who have already had far more of an unfair advantage than the average homicide suspects. No one is stopping them looking for Madeleine. Why should the police pursue a futile exercise, because Clarence Mitchell says so? I think they ahve better things to do and in any missing person case, the police could not commit the resources to searching so long after the event.

From The Times
April 3, 2008
British police ready to question 'Tapas Seven' over Madeleine disappearance
David Brown
British police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are to interview more than 30 people who could help to prove that her parents were not involved in her abduction.
The interviews will begin next Tuesday with the first of the seven British friends who were on holiday with the McCanns when Madeleine was reported missing in Portugal. A different couple will be interviewed each day in the presence of Portuguese detectives at the headquarters of Leicestershire Police.
The officers will concentrate on alleged inconsistencies in the timelines of events on May 3. None of the witnesses will be made arguidos (official suspects under Portuguese law) and detectives will not seize evidence or search homes.
Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, have offered to be reinterviewed but will not be questioned.

British officers will then begin interviews with more than two dozen other people who were at the Ocean Club resort in Praia Da Luz on May 3 last year or who were later connected to the case.
The witnesses include other holidaymakers, nannies at the Ocean Club, people who claim to have seen Madeleine being abducted, the psychologist who comforted Kate McCann and the McCanns' official spokesmen, Clarence Mitchell and Justine McGuinness.
The list of people to be interviewed has been provided by Kate and Gerry McCann as part of their rights as arguidos to demand that police speak to people who could prove their innocence.
Paulo Rebelo, the chief investigator in the Polícia Judiciária investigation into Madeleine's disappearance, will fly to Britain with two other detectives on Monday. They will stay until Friday to watch the interviews with the so-called “Tapas Seven” who were at a restaurant on the Ocean Club with Mr and Mrs McCann when Madeleine went missing.
Jane Tanner, 36, claimed she saw a man carrying a girl from the McCanns' apartment at about 9.15pm - when another witness says he was outside the flat at the same time but did not see her or the mystery man. Her partner, Dr Russell O'Brien, 36, from Exeter, was away from the group for up to 45 minutes in the period that Madeleine was taken from her bed.
Dr Matthew Oldfield, 37, a hospital consultant from London, and his wife Rachel, 36, a recruitment consultant, were also at the tapas restaurant.
David Payne, 41, a cardiovascular researcher from Leicester, was the last person outside the McCann family to see Madeleine. His wife, Fiona, 34, and her mother, Diane Webster, will also be interviewed.
The McCanns' Portuguese lawyers have requested the police case against them be made made public on the eight-month anniversary of the day they were made official suspects. However, detectives can request a three-month extension, as granted in the case of the other official suspect, Robert Murat, in January.
Because of the change in Portuguese law, the court could rule that the eight-month limit actually started in September last year. And the evidence could remain sealed indefinitely if police rule that the case is a major crime, such as international child trafficking.
Mr Murat, 34, has recently returned to Britain to see his five-year-old daughter, Sofia, for the first time since he was made an official suspect in Madeleine's disappearance. Mr Murat, who lives with his mother in a villa about 100 yards from the McCanns' holiday apartment, has strenuously denied any involvement.
Police last month returned computers and clothing they had seized during the search of his home in an indication that they no longer believed he was a suspect.

Have your say

if the mccanns have all these witnesses who can verify that they are innocent why have not gone to the police before now, to many lies have been told in the dissapearance of madeleine and i find that really sad that there is no one to speak up for her and find out the truth

What a pity the courtroom did not get used for the truth to be told in the McCanns libel action..the DE apparently just gave in and paid up.

I do not believe it is as simple as that for the McCanns and the DE will wait for a criminal court of law in Portugal to ascertain the truth. Then they will start writing lots about the McCanns again.

Just my thinking of course, let us wait and see.

I think the extended Joseph Goebbels quote may be even more apt in view of some other postings in the last few minutes:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

"Jackie" sweety, just read your post, The PJ are investigating this case under the instruction of a Portuguese Ministry of Justice judge, who is a most responsible and qualified legal officer. He is authorised to make decisions about which cases merit investigation solely on the basis of the credible evidence, a large dossier. This includes much British evidence. He has authorised the continuation of this investigation (and it will continue to the end) which will cost the Portuguese taxpayer millions of pounds. You know this has nothing to do with the PJ "losing face". What's all this monkeybusiness about? Stop it!

I'm in fine form, ta!

Well done on your 5 days!! Fantastic stuff. You should definitely go back to normal meals now, especially as you're going out tomorrow! (And in order for passing waitresses to feel safe). Five days is a good cleansing time, if you ask me. And life is for living, too, Hope!

How much weight have you lost? Is it noticeable?

No more chocolate ice cream for me today. :( But I'm not feeling at all ill - probably because I'm not eating much! Am awaiting results to see if I'm also a coeliac, so don't know what to eat, in truth; have been surviving more or less on fruit for the past three weeks, but that plainly causes a problem, so it's back to the carpet underlay, I think. But I do feel great, though!

I remember that series! Do you know, it hadn't occurred to me to write a comedy about Hiatus Hernias - can't think why not. I could call it "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Gastro-Oesophageal Sphincter". How many series do you think I could get out of that? (Not too many, I hope).

The other people I'm blogging with agree with me. "Never leave your kids alone".

All you ever saw me say was that these people have done absolutely nothing at all to help the police look for their daughter and have done all they could to postpone things and let red tape take over this case. And of course, that they are people who comitted the crime of neglect and should be punished for it. Personally, I would like to see them in jail for the neglect alone. '...the truth is the greatest enemy of the State...'

History repeats itself in the sad case of one missing little English girl: Madeleine Beth McCann.

Your reminder reminds me of George Orwell's '1984' where Big Brother (the State) monitored the people, and forbid honest communication. Admidst all that, love was the biggest offence; it was the biggest enemy. It was the most difficult for the State to control love.

Love of one little missing English girl, for what she represents about all children, is something the UK Government finds most difficult to control, in my opinion.

Tsk. Power brokers love power. They don't love voteless, voiceless children.

Hi Clarence, and Gerry. This is not so easy as you thought, is it.

As Viv said , it could be argued that the McCanns did indeed allow evidence to be destroyed by allowing everybody into trample the apartment, since they clearly suspected a crime had a taken place, as GM was allegedly on the phone to relatives by 11 pm on May 3 2007 to say that there had been an abduction. They are NOT too naive members of the public were they, they would know full well that forensics would be vital to catch and convict an abductor, still they allowed it to be spoiled.

The GI thing is also good. Do you know about it? You eat small amounts every so often (whenever you feel hungry) and it keeps your blood sugar constant, so you don't get that yoyo thing of suddenly feeling starving. When I first tried it I was amazed at how little food I needed to keep me going.

Leigh3/Littlegreycell,

Thanks for your comments. You may remember from previous posts that I did Soviet Studies in university, and learnt all about propaganda. Its amazing to see that though WE think we are free, we're not. Forums like this is the online equivalent of the "samizdat" or self-publishing of views that were contrary to the Soviet or Eastern Bloc mainstream thought. We are the "persecuted intellectuals", the "dissidents" and are not free at all, despite the fact we think we are, and despite the fact we can travel freely. (Funny enough, my Russian friends never really thought they were'nt free, they just went on holidays to the Black Sea like the way we'd go on holidays to France, but would never consider going to the Black Sea). But what's very worrying is that under the Labour government, I can see a lot of Soviet propaganda techniques "sexed up" and used today:

1. Control of the press and supression of views contrary to the prevailing political view e.g. McCanns from day 1

2. People getting "in the way" of the establishment's goals being "bumped off" e.g. Dr David Kelly, Princess Diana, and possibly others? (Funny how there was no mention of Landmines and Nicholas Soames and government opposition to Diana's landmine campaign mentioned in the recent inquest? In my view Mohommad Al Fayed's grief and gregarious personality was welcomed by the powers that be, what a nice divertion from the bad publicity Diana was giving the arms industry in the run up to her death).

3. "Class wars" - a very old one. Getting rid of some herediary peers in the House of Lords and replacing them with cronies...surpressing the "dissident views" like our own.

Let's just hope that the PJ and Leicester Police are allowed do their job, without any more political interferance.

I would really ask everyone to e-mail McMillan Scott and complain about inviting the McCanns to the European Parliament to speak about the Amber alert. Yes, a media divertion tactic, but he is also complicit in the McCann game.

But I do note the mainstream coverage of the McCann case is now very low. The calm before the legitimate backlash I hope!

I know my mail probably seems very "conspiratorial" - but as per the examples above, we are really under the control of "Big Brother"...too sad. Britian is not a democracy. Remember one million people marched against the invasion of Iraq, and Tony still went and did it? A pointless invasion of another country. Does that not sound "Soviet" enough for you?

God bless Madeline. May her Mummy and Daddy pay for not minding her properly.

There is no "them and us" on here. We are one united voice, searching for the truth and for Justice for Madeleine Beth McCann.

Joe

You flag up yet another reason why I did not trust this couple from the outset. Intelligent parents who had their child abducted would have immediately considered forensics and certainly not allowed other to contaminate the scene. They would have kept people out and immediately called the police, not some 40 minutes later. Gerry tried to justify this saying well, only a few people were allowed in the bedroom...I simply cannot believe that two British doctors could have been so utterly naive.

Joe,
I agree with you: the McCanns were not just two, naiive holidaymakers whose child went 'missing'. They allowed all and sundry to trample through their apartment - the scene of their alleged abduction of their child - although as doctors they knew full well that vital forensic evidence would exist in the apartment.

Now, why would knowing doctors allow the scene of a crime to be trashed if a stranger had abducted their daughter? IF.

Criminals guilty of a heinous crime usually try to destroy all evidence.

Hello viv, with regards to manslaughter, i can't pretend to have any definitive legal advice, such as you, but when i worked for an insurance company and had to be tested on liability etc, we were given quite a good example. It was that a horse rider had fallen after a jump in the countryside and suffered a broken leg. She died because she couldn't walk and suffered from exposure. The proximal cause was the broken leg, however, the actual cause was death from hypothermia. It is the same with manslaughter in that, if a death arises as a result of something that perpetuated it, it is the first incident which is held to be liable.
Therefore, however unlikely it seems, the rider died from a broken leg and the parallel in this case is that if Maddie died, it is still manslaughter without intention as it is the negligence that lead to her death (if indeed she did perish that night) that is the proximal cause. feel free to disagree.

Not very good at insurance malarky, but that is how i see things!

How are you?

Atardi,

there are no uniforms in Portuguese public schools. Only in private colleges where parents can afford to pay high fees.

The other two posters also expressed their view on the subject and I share their views.

Aww, LGC, missed you again. Goodnight. Maybe you can tell us what you think about Diana another time. I am interested in your opinion.

And I wrote all that in the kind of Portuguese she undertands. She did not have the intelligence to use plain Portuguese...

Indeed a normal person would not allow anybody in so as preserve the scene, and would be desperate for the Police to arrive. Not the case here I believe. It is a possibility that the scene was deliberately destroyed as it could be later claimed that the scene forensics could not be relied upon due to the traffic just in case any alleged evidence was left. Cynical, but each day there is a twist and a turn , a wriggle here I am , there we go, all an illusion and so much spinning that we are all dizzy.

ta ra said...

Yes, Penelope. A thousand times yes.

Yet somehow a primitive urge to be free does allow the weary mass to throw off oppression. History tells us that is so. So let's persist, and resist; exchange information; ask awkward questions; ignore trite power politics.

Another quote you might like: 'Man is free, yet everywhere he is in chains.' Voltaire.

I believe in democracy, whatever its faults. I believe in the good judgement and perseverance of the majority of people, no matter how much they endure petty power politics.

I believe that honest, quiet inquiry will defeat the liars and power brokers who have manipulated the facts and the public perception of little Madeleine Beth McCann.

Time, and perseverance. It works magic, imho.

It only takes a few determined souls to change everything. Twas ever thus. That is our heritage; our forbears died for that.

Hiya Dillie

That shows a good understanding of the law!

There is an interesting murder case Smith 1959. He received two bayonet wounds from his assailant. One had pierced the lung. After some delay he was trollied off but dropped off the trolley. The medical officer did not realise how serious his injuries were, failed to properly treat and he died. Smith appealed against his murder conviction but the appeal was dismissed. He had tried to argue that he was not responsible for his death it was the negligent medical officer but it was held it was his initial unlawful act that led to the man's death, the unfortunate occurences after that did not change his liability..stabbing someone twice with a bayonet demonstrates the requirement for murder...an intention to kill or cause really serious harm.

Hi Joe.

Yup, all the spin surrounding the McCanns and their supporters does make honest people dizzy, but we're not stupid; we're not gullible.

A spin cycle goes bust in any machine, eventually. That's the way mechanics work :-)

I bet you the princely sum of 50p that honest humans are more durable than machines!

I have been watching Gatacca with my son tonight. I put it on order with HMV as nobody had a copy of it and he has seen some of it in his CBV lessons. It was very good. It wasn't overly emotional but it did have a message. It was about a future race of people that were genetically engineered to be what the child's parents wanted them to be. Ie. healthy, strong, intelligent and having non-addictive personas. The tailored child. The star of the film was an in-valid person (a person that had been conceived naturally) The moral was that you can engineer a physically perfect human being, but you can't control fate, desires and dreams in as much as the "soul" is far more than the DNA that we are built from. Fascinating film and i can recommend it.

Going to bed now with my head full of thoughts - i will probably feel tired in the morning!

Goodnight all and if anyone knows where I should look, and on what date, about docmac, please put me out of my misery ))))

Viv, Leigh3,Littlegreycell,Docmac and Hope4 truth and all the gang,

We must keep pluggling - sorry blogging away. We really are some of the last few voices for Maddie on the internet.

We really must have a party or get-together when this has all resolved, and Madeline's neglectors and assailants have been brought to justice.

Loved the quote, Leigh3, thank you for that.

Sleep well everyone.

Penelope

PS Do you think the government are deliberately "dumbing down" educational standards, particularly in state education, in order to keep the masses ignorant and easliy controlled?

Viv - yes, unfortunate how the law works sometimes. A bit like if you hit another vehicle up the rear, it's always your fault. Almost like culpability is the ability of foresight that went a bit wrong. Joe Simpson is one lucky fella (and his insurers) - darn it, I'm done for as i always miss what's right under my nose!!

BTW, for anyone who is interested, this might be a good moment in the lull before the storm to write to your MP and your MEP, protesting against the obvious manipulation of UK law and European law in the interests of two child neglectors.

Just a thought. Early posts on Viv's latest headline will show you where to post, and what some complainants have already written to MEPs ahead of the McCanns staged appearance in Brussels AFTER the conference on an Amber Alert system for missing children.

Just a though.

Night all y boa noite Portugal, our oldest ally, faithful as ever to the cause of justice, however long it takes.

Hiya Penelope

This blog will certainly keep going, I think the Pros getting used to the idea now, threats, spamming etc makes no difference at all.

I think eventually we will have something to really celebrate but let us not forget that in spite of all the claims the PJ were not coming back, they will be, in just a few days to re-interview those lieing McCann friends.

Their Portuguese lawyer has now admitted the case will remain closed to the McCanns until at least August, time enough in my view and the Portuguese Judge and Prosecutor have everything worked out. I have always thought they will be charged by September.

Does anyone actually believe the McCanns witnesses are going to prove their innocence and why has it taken so long for them to speak out? Whilst master manipulator Gerrymander makes sure they all got their stories straight? The police have been way ahead of their game.

Re: Government dumbing down education in order to control the masses. Yes. All Governments want stupid electorates, imo. Only enlightened people want educated children, imo.

_______
Atardi,

it's always difficult to find a perfect solution for many problems as you know, but i think wearing uniforms can help minimize discrimination among pupils from different backgrounds.

Children are 24/7 bombarded with agressive advertisement and are easy targets and easily influenced.
Brands and perfect bodies are things they want to have. Its common school bullying also because of gadgets and clothes.

Of course everything begins at home and parents should have the time and the will to educate them into values and priorities.

Unfortunately it doesn't happen in most families and the product is materialistic children. Don't you agree you do know the parents of each pupil through pupils' attitudes? Most times it is so.

Well, in this unfair world there is no perfect solution.

Nite (again )
