Cleaning lady cracks the case?In the dramatic true story of the first murder case solved by genetic "fingerprinting" - DNA, it is documented that it was in a pub in Narborough, Leicestershire (Rothley's county) that a casual comment lead toward the solution of a case destined to become a landmark in the annals of crime detection.Four years into this murder case, a man in a pub revealed that a colleague had paid him to take his blood test a year earlier in the Leicestershire Constabulary's massive "blooding" as they called it for a genetic fingerprinting - DNA - of every male in the county. Over 4,500 blood tests were taken. But it was this chance comment by a man drinking his beer in a pub that eventually solved the case.

Casual comments in pubs can solve many cases of this type, Viv. I wonder if this may have happened in this case too. Most of the tapas lot seem to enjoy more than one drink ;-)

Hiya Doc

Good to hear from you. I know exactly what you mean but perhaps enough said LOL!

She is a real cute one that Rothaymere isnt she!

I know Leicester reasonably well - as you know I was recently in hospital there... Funnily enough I would guess that Narborough is only about 10 miles from Rothley. Its a small world isnt it and people dont half gossip around these parts!

THANKS ANON - I CAN FEEL THE NAUSEA RISING IN MY THROAT HAVING JUST READ THIS - HOW COME KATE WAITED UNTIL 8 MONTHS LATER, AT CHRISTMAS TIME TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO HER LITTLE GIRL?

BE BRAVE SWEETHEART - SOUNDS JUST LIKE ROSIEPOPS - THIS JUST REPULSES ME - THEY CLEARLY IMPLY SHE IS IN THE HANDS OF PAEDOPHILES BEING REPEATEDLY RAPED, BUT STILL ALIVE - WHAT UTTERLY REPULSIVE PEOPLE. IF I THOUGHT THAT HAD HAPPENED TO MY CHILD I WOULD BE PRAYING FOR A QUICK END TO HER SUFFERING - NEVER THIS IT IS JUST SO SO HORRIBLE

McCanns send anguished Christmas message to Madeleine

21/12/2007 - 4:47:24 PM

Kate and Gerry McCann today sent an anguished public message to their daughter Madeleine telling her: “Our only Christmas wish is for you to be back with us again.”

In a worldwide Christmas appeal recorded at their home in Rothley, Leicestershire, the couple told the four-year-old: “Be brave sweetheart.”

Madeleine, four, vanished from the McCanns’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3.

Despite being declared “arguidos” – or suspects – by Portuguese police, her parents have spearheaded an unprecedented international campaign appealing for information which could lead to her return.

They strenuously deny any involvement and believe that Madeleine may still be alive.

The video, which is being made available to all broadcasters worldwide, also includes three clips of Madeleine filmed last Christmas which have not been seen publicly before.

In one she is shown excitedly opening a parcel containing the same pink bag she took on holiday in May. In another she is carrying a gift from her to her brother Sean while in a third she is standing on the kitchen table.

Sitting in front of the family Christmas tree with his wife by his side, Gerry McCann speaks of how this will be the “hardest Christmas imaginable”.

The couple each discuss the possibility that someone knows what happened to their daughter, who vanished while they were eating in a tapas restaurant metres away from where Madeleine was sleeping.

They make a direct appeal to such a person to end their “despair and anguish” at Christmas.

Kate then speaks directly to Madeleine in the hope that she is watching, passing on her parents’ love and that of her two-year-old twin siblings Sean and Amelie.

They appeal for anyone with information to call a confidential hotline manned by private detectives in Spain – on 00 34 902 300 213 – or at least pass the information on to a priest.

“This special time of year is all about families coming together with love and peace,” Mr McCann says in the three-minute-18-second video.

“Clearly for us and the rest of our family it’s going to be the hardest Christmas imaginable without Madeleine here.”

He adds: “Since Madeleine was taken from us on May 3, someone knows what happened to her and may well know where she is now.

“That person has it within their power to show us the compassion to end this terrible ordeal for us.”

Kate McCann then says: “If that person is you, we understand that you may be staying silent because of fear for yourself or through misguided loyalty to other people.

“But you must understand that you hold the key to ending all this despair and anguish, for both us and Madeleine.

“At this time of year, when so many families are coming together we beg you to help us be reunited with Madeleine.

“Please do the right thing and come forward.”

Then, in a direct message to her daughter, she says: “Madeleine, it’s mummy and daddy here.

“Just know how much we love you, Madeleine.

“We all miss you so much.

“Sean and Amelie talk about you all the time every day.

“We’re doing everything we can, Madeleine, to find you and there are so many good and very kind people helping us.

“Be brave sweetheart.

“Our only Christmas wish is for you to be back with us again and we’re hoping and praying that that will happen.

“Love you Madeleine.”

The McCanns have not spoken publicly about what they have bought for Madeleine for Christmas this year.

Writing in his internet blog earlier this month, Gerry McCann said the family would be having a very quiet Christmas, attempting to preserve as much normality for Sean and Amelie.

“Despite not yet being three, they both seem to understand they will be getting presents from Santa,” he said.

“They have also asked if Santa will be bringing Madeleine home, which just about broke our hearts.”
